Thanks a lot for the comparison. Interesting that the range is so similar between the two scooters. You've really helped me make up my mind that I for my use case the Zero 8 is the way to go.

Another one of a kind comparison test! Bravo! I'm 6'2 ,165 lb. and get 18-20 mi. on ave. with some modest hills and no cargo. Display is not good to read in sun- needs a more viewable screen like the b& w on my Rad City bike. The 9 shines in braking but both accelerate adequately enough for us rural commuters. Lighting is quite good on both with the 9 being more robust. Three cheers for the testers and the two snazzy- looking Zeroes( Zeros, O' s). My favorite E scooter channel rides again- thanks, guys and gal!

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the kind words, i'll pass them onto the crew. Tilting the display helps but you are right sun visibility is a weak point. I agree both scooters blow away most other for commuters and go plenty fast, at reasonable speeds (legally only 15 mph here) around traffic both brakes work well.

@Henry B, The only time I wish I had the 9 is when I ride across really hard bumps like railroad tracks, etc. Also if I rode close to the max speed around traffic I may lean towards the dual brakes on the 9. Hi Jim, enjoy your channel and your passion for scooter and reviewing them. I couldn’t find any footage though of how they handle and sound on different terrains. I got the Zero8 not long ago but i noticed immediately out of the box, it’s fine and smooth on any concrete surface but as soon as i come across a different surface that has more undulation or bumps like a wharf with decking or pebbles or otherwise it just produces quite a rattling noise from the base of the unit. I thought at first it was coming from the rear wheel but upon closer listening it sounds like it’s from the under the deck. I recorded an audio file of it if you would like to hear it. Let me know an email address and will send it on. The rattling attracts a lot of attention when it happens by bystanders and just sounds and feels unstable and ready to fall apart. Welcome any thoughts you might have?

Thanks for the video. I'm fairly lightweight (63 kg) and managed around 22 miles on a single charge on the zero 8 (and didn't use my brake at all). The first half of the journey I set to 80% power - the second half to 100% as power diminished. I also took your advice in changing the P15 setting (cutoff voltage) to 41 instead of 39 to prolong battery life. I found that the battery display is unreliable and the ride a little bumpy in places but otherwise a great scooter - well pleased with it.

@JellyMonster1, I'm glad to hear its working well for you, that's good range. I would imagine the Zero 9 would be a little bumpy in those same places with just a little less so. I think both of our Zero 8's will serve us well for quite awhile! Happy Scootering!

I have zero 8, new, updated version with 48V battery and 500W (peak power 1100W) motor and I am 95kg. The scooter is handling my weight without any problem.
It is locked to 25 km/h and I do not tend to unlock it (cut the white wire) as I believe going faster is dangerous.
    One point worth mentioning:
My zero 8 came with a 50.4V charger which is able to charge the 48V battery to a maximum of around 74%.
Why? Answer: note that the maximum (100%) charging capacity of 48V battery is not 48V but 56.4V. To charge your 48V battery to 100%/56.4V you would need a stronger charger (e.g. 60V).
Providing a weaker charger is a smart trick some manufacturers use in order to prevent their buyers from overcharging the battery (keeping your battery charged above 30% and below 80% will triple the battery lifetime).
The light on the charger will turn green once the current stops flowing, in other words, there is no more difference in the potential between the charger output and the battery. This only means that the battery charged to the maximum capacity of what a CHARGER can provide and this is not necessarily the max capacity of the battery itself.
So if you see a green light on the charger, indicating that the charging is finished, but your scooter only shows 4 out of 5 bars, check your charger's power and the voltage reading of your scooter. They should be similar (e.g. for 50.4V charger your 48V scooter should read 50.1 or 50.2V when charged to the max).
Search the internet for "Battery pack voltage comparison charge".

I just got a solid tire for the front of the Zero 8. I"ll post that video soon, it really affects the ride quality negatively. I'd suggest buying an extra tube or the solid tire when you get the scooter and putting sealant in the stock tubes. Tire changing on the motor tire is a pain, the non-motorized two piece rim is a quick and easy change. I have not had a flat to date. If you bring a few tools when you ride even a flat isn't a huge issue in my mind. Thanks for asking!

I could hear the hum on your videos, but I would be interested to know if you had any comment on how both Zeros compare to other brands you have ridden. I am going to buy a Zero 9 in a few weeks (Australia), so I have found your reviews very interesting. @meremail, I did do a video comparing 5 scooters including the two Zero's. The EcoReco S5 had the quietest motor I've tried to date, its a sweet motor but the rest of the scooter isn't as great. The Zero's are great for rattles as most parts (folding handlebars especially) that could rattle are easily tightened down. @Robert Zoppi, to me the difference between the two scooters is really comfort and braking. The controller dictates the power so the nominal motor rating doesn't really tell you which is more powerful. The 8 was slightly faster accelerating for me and i think that is mainly due to lower weight and the smaller circumference rear wheel and torque advantage. Also note the 8 only accelerated slightly faster, the 9 is faster in top speed because of the higher controller output. Thanks!

Electron Surfer oh, ok, yeah, I get it.. actually, I think you said the 9 is a more comfortable ride but that the 8 was more fun to ride.. I would assume the 9 is a little more comfortable but still fun? I truly love the idea of a wider board with front and back brakes as well as the lighting is awesome! I live in downtown Sacramento and I cruise around to all restaurants/ bars all the time and I like a comfortable ride with some quickness...
I ordered the 9 last night and I’m hoping it gives me those things...
Thanks for responding, I appreciate your knowledge and understanding of the products.. I currently own a radrover fat bike with 750 watt bufang and I get around 24mph with a lot of added equipment.. I’m excited to own my first scooter... i’ve only rented them before. Last question, is the nine a lot of fun to cruise on? Thank you again and you’re a really good reviewer..

@@ElectronSurfer I have a Kugoo S1 with 350w motor. It suits me very nicely for distances up to 15 km. It can even make quite steep slopes. The motor is very strong and I can only imagine how a man of 80kg weight must fly on it. I think I'll go for Zero 9 or something in that range just because of the battery that will allow me to go longer distances. Speed is not among my priorities. Kugoo can go 30km/h on flat ground easy even with my weight but I never go that fast. I do not feel safe enough. 20 km/h is enough for me. When you weight 120kgs and go 30 km/h standing on a scouter you can not stop very quickly no matter the brakes. If you try to brake hard in that sppeed you may experience "flying" head on... 👼

@Andreas Matsis, That's a good point, the solid tire does transmit more vibration on the Zero 8. I do have all of the settings maxed out on the Zero 8, some of those settings for acceleration are not available in the Zero 9. I think its possible the controller is actually pushing out more amperage on the Zero 8 leading to a little more noise. Thanks for that comment!

@Jazo ma, Great comment and question. For me any deck height above 5 inches is awkward and difficult to kick without motor power. Of the scooters I've reviewed only the Zoom Stryder (4") and Glion Dolly (5") are easy to kick, the Glion is noticeable harder than the Zoom. Even that height is difficult to kick for long distances. It would be fun if the scooters had a kick enhancement mode, sort of like some Razors, where you could mostly kick and it would put in power relative to how hard you kick.
