Great idea for a video and definitely agree you shouldn’t limit yourself. I don’t have as much luck as you seem to have with the womens section but I like to keep my options open
last month i was browsing through HM, men section. i was terribly dissapointed with the fits, the materials, the colours. then I went to the women section, found two boxy t shirts with a perfect fit, two sweatshirt also boxy and perfect fit and a fleece jacket. bought them all. then i went to another shops into the women sections and was amazed at how this approach works in any shop i go. i get complinted all the time wearing those pieces. i'll never shop in men section again hahaha
Haha 😂 same thing happened to me a few years ago in H&M as well! Couldn’t find a sweater I liked in men’s because they were all way too long. Tried a women’s one and it was perfection (and cheaper!).
no way, I was searching for any video if it's okay for men to wear "women" because I was disappointed by the bagginess of H&M's mens section and found out that the womens section have those shape of bagginess I was looking for.
This was a good one! I've been doing the same at Uniqlo for what seems like a decade and many of the women's pieces have ended up becoming favorites. The U range was particularly good from this angle for autumn. I picked up a peacoat in the brown/azuki colorway that was used for their volume puffer jacket for men. It is very Lemaire and really stands alongside the main line's pieces. I've had a lot of luck with their female targeted overshirts over the years. Often they are exactly as you found with the knits. Slightly cropped and better proportioned than the male counterparts. One thing I've come to realize over the years is that I much prefer slightly masculine womenswear to effeminate menswear pieces. The former tends to be a softer edged version of the originals and maintains the requisite functionality. The latter often seems to miss the point and feel awkward when worn.
Couldn’t have said it better, you’ve hit the nail on the head - that’s exactly the type of womenswear I like as well! That peacoat was amazing I was tempted by it but I spent way too much so had to limit myself haha!!
I've long had difficulty getting jeans that fit, apparently from getting big legs from cycling. Hockey players are supposed to have the same problem. Once I was trying on a GF's jeans for lulz and was astonished that they fitted well, aside from being too short. I'm too big overall to shop this way and wound up going semi-custom with Soso denim, but that might be a solution for others.
This video came about the same time I also had this realisation, especially true for knitwear. I looked at arket's knitwear and for men, it's so bog standard and then I go to the womens section and the cardigans, range of fabrics and silhouettes whether tighter, cropped, loose are much better.
I always struggle with jackets being too long on me as I’m 5’6.5 Found a women’s denim jacket that fits me like a dream. It’s my new favorite piece of clothing now
I sometimes think of the labelling of 'mens' and 'womens' clothing as misnomers. As an example, years ago in a Levis store I remember an employee there telling me that Levis had begun to produce women's 501's with a cut more like the men's ones, because previously no-one were buying them. And as a teen I read in one of those mags for teenage girls some advice that recommended not bothering with women's jeans because the men's ones are a more flattering fit (again, I think the reference was to 501's). Perhaps I should add that round about that time I wouldn't be seen in any jeans other than men's 501's, infinitely prefering them over the women's ones.
Yeah agreed, complete misnomer. Really interesting to hear that! It’s funny how women like the fit of menswear pieces and men like to fit of womenswear pieces. There’s a sweet spot between the two where we might all be happy!
Totally agree with you on this one There’s one more thing I want to add: Give women shoes a try too, especially boots and chunky sneakers . Women shoes have more unique and fun designs compared to men shoes in my opinion Of course it’s hard to find a fitting size but it’s worth a try
Love this content. Been doing this recently. I have been looking for high waisted baggy trousers with pleats made out of organic materials. Only to find out that the fit that I’ve been searching for is in the men’s section.
The souffle yarn bits look good, surprised that acrylic can finish so nicely I've only ever washed my wool garments by hand - just in the sink with cold water. Never had any shrinkage that way! (just left out to air dry afterwards)
Yeah I couldn’t believe it was acrylic!! Hmm I use the washing machine which might be the reason why - however the pieces say they are machine washable and I only ever do a cold wash. Oh well!
@@JamesLeung I wonder if a synthetic blend might lead to more or less pilling after many wears 🤔 I suppose if the care tag says so it should be fine! I've always followed my mum's advice when it comes to washing clothes tho 😂
7:00 that fit is giving off Steve Jobs vibes aha, that JW jumper is real nice hopefully I can get my hands on it. I've been shopping from the women's section for quite some time now as being a shorter guy everything just tends to fit me better. especially when it comes to sleeve length being too long with most things from the men's section
What do you thank about most female clothing opening on the opposite side from men's? Maybe most people wouldn't notice or care that the placket, fly, or buttons are on the other side. But I've noticed on some Faconnable shirts and coats follow the female pattern and that women's jeans also open on the right. Since most people are right-handed, I'd like to see everything designed to open on the right.
I’m not entirely sure why they open on different sides. It takes some getting used to after a lifetime of muscle memory zipping things up the opposite way haha
Hey James, I recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy the content and advice you have to offer! It's an interesting take on fashion, by trying out clothes from the women's section. On the same note, what's your advice on the marching band/officer style jackets in the women's range that brands offer. I like Hedi Slimane's pieces for Celine, so I want to mimic that style, as the real ones are too expensive. Please let me know your thoughts on it.
Thank you! They don’t really fit my personal style but I can see why people like them. Have you tried eBay to look for genuine vintage ones? Might be cheaper and better quality!
People love to bully men for shopping in the women's section, but for me, they have the best clothes and way more options and materials to choose from. From shirts to pants to shoes. The only "men" clothes I have are my graphic T's. But the jeans/pants/shorts and shoes are all women's and the compliments I get are nice but they don't know that it's from the women's section, except the shoes.🤷🏽♂️😂😂😂😂
Haha exactly. I have been buying women’s clothes for years there’s really no difference. As long as it fits you well and you’re comfortable, go for it!
For me, the problem with wearing cropped clothes that follow the 1/3 - 2/3 rule is that they are too short to cover my abs when I raise my arm to reach for something, it makes me so uncomfortable when I'm in a serious environment.
The only thing I would find a problem with this, is that men have something down there. So having enough space in regards to crotch area as well as the jeans fitting well on the waist also.
The only thing with womens clothes is that they can have really weird and often time cheap materials that you dont see in menswear. There is random spandex vicose and polyester in almost everything.
As a female anything unisex is just made to fit men, never really faltering despite trying every size. Unless you're a female trying to go for a more masculine look doesn't really work. There are some basics that work both ways tho. Sweat pants are good
i think the womens clothes kinda gay especialy when its super cropped. Crop is nice because it shows your long legs, but i see you with tops that look way tooo short james. gonna see your belly button bro
I found sincerly boring this trend of crop tops, and the fact that you are not that tall does not justify your choices (in my opinion of course). I have the impression to watch another Tim Dessaint type. I'm french and I'm into fashion , and because you seems to be an open minded person I want to share with you this playlist. The man here is not tall at all (I think about 175 cm). 100%!!! Knitwear for men is the absolute worst. It’s all terribly long and oversized in the wrong places. Always makes me look frumpy!
Really enjoyed this. A lot of the Uniqlo pieces are unisex anyways, you just have to find the right proportions. Definitely picking up the half zip
Thank you man!! I feel like a lot of stores are going to go unisex in the future, it makes much more sense!

Bought a pair of women's jeans at Frank & Oak a few weeks ago - perfect fit!

Haha he’s a secret style king. Womens is perfect for shorter guys 👍 I’m not exactly tall but I feel like most menswear is made for giants 🤣
I don't like women's pants because the pockets are always tiny, and I keep a ton of stuff in mine
women clothes are gaaaay just buy mens, they do make cropped mens clothes if that is what you really like, dont go too cropped that u see your stomach

Fantastic video, James. I’m curious if you noticed a difference in the front pockets depth of the denim when compared to men’s?
Thank you! Very unfortunately the pockets are shallow, I forgot to mention that. It seems to be the same with a lot of women’s jeans 😢
Great ideas......I had a 29 inch waist in 1977.....happy days!

i've been telling people this, as long as it looks good, it doesn't even matter

100% agree!! 👍

Why get womens baggy jeans when u can just get levis stay loose 568 baggy jeans. I have them and they are awesome.
Yeah to be honest there’s lots of nice baggy jeans, I just wanted to try out the Uniqlo ones to see what they were like

Great video. Something just doesn’t sit right with me about wearing women’s clothes. Your cat is the best 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! Yeah it’s kinda strange at first, but it’s super exciting when you realise all the new pieces you can wear!
How should I choose woman jeans sizes when i have 30 male or is it the same?
I think lots of women’s clothes today are trying to be “boyfriend” cut, which is to replicate men’s wear but in a cropped/trim fit.
Yeah true. For me that’s actually the perfect cut haha.
Well,I consider myself influenced! 1/2 zip sold out but just got few great pieces, some on sale! Love Uniqlo!
