- Richard Hooker (1554-1600) can be considered the intellectual father of the Anglican Church. His great work, the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity, was intended to stake out a clear middle course (a via media) between Calvinism on the one hand and the Roman Catholicism on the other. As such he gave the Church of England a core document of its own distinctive identity. In this video, Dr Andrea Russell -- and expert on Richard Hooker -- explains why his book is still important today.
