  • Dichroic Glass, also known as living glass or Narima, is an iridescent color effect mirror that's semi transparent. This unique glass utilizes nanotechnology at an atomic level to create two translucent colors on the substrate.

In layman’s terms, it changes color simply by changing your position relative to it. In this video, I’ll show you what a dichroic mirror is, how it works, and all the colors it comes in. At the end, I'm also going to show how you can make dichroic glass by using an inexpensive film that applies just like regular window film.
    What Is Dichroic Glass?
The word “Dichroic’ comes from the two Greek words, ‘Di’ means two, and ‘chroma’ means color.
It comes in six color variations which are hard baked at the factory in Mainz, Germany using an advanced dip process that coats the glass in controlled temperature and atmospheric conditions.
We stock all the colors, and can temper and laminate it for exhibits and architecture.
The coating is designed with a durable, scratch resistant dielectric overcoat, which withstands both interior and exterior applications.
Cutting is done at our factory on demand to any size you need. Alternatively, a standard score-and-break method can be used to cut it.
Samples are readily available on our website, I’ll leave you the direct link down below.
In addition to the Narima glass, we also offer dichroic mirrors in film which can be applied to clear glass and plastic.
While it’s not as durable as the hard coating, the film is an inexpensive method to add the same effect to a large area.
Now I’ll take you through how you can make your own dichroic mirrors quickly and easily--without making mistakes. [insert other video here]
It can be ordered as a film which comes in rolls, or the actual mirrors on glass substrate, which have a hard, durable coating applied at the factory.
    Benefits
Just like any window film, dichroic mirrors are easily made using simple tools.
I’ll outline exactly what you’ll need, how to use it, and I’ve left a complete part list and detailed step-by-step instructions down below.
If you're looking to save a ton of money and add dazzling iridescent color to your glass, you're going to love this video.
    Installation
A window film installation kit from your local hardware store can be used for application and to smooth out the bubbles.
    Step 1:
Clean your glass, acrylic, or polycarbonate, so there aren’t any fingerprints or particles on the surface.
    Step 2:
Spray your surface with application solution and apply the dichroic film.
    Step 3:
Squeegee out the bubbles working your way from the inside slowly, working the excess liquid out and preventing creases from forming.
    Step 4:
Trim the excess film around the edges with a blade.
    Step 5:
Allow the film to set for 24 hours. The mild adhesive cures during this time, bonding it to the surface of your material.
With practice, dichroic film can also be used on curved surfaces for exhibits, costumes, and vehicles.

Method #2: Stretching Film Across A Frame
If you’re looking to create a lightweight dichroic mirror, the film can be stretched and pulled tight on a frame.
By affixing it with equal tension on all sides, it makes a huge dichroic mirror.
This is perfect for theater performances, magic shows, and any application where you need a giant lightweight mirror.
After it's attached to your frame, you can use a heat gun around the edges to tighten it.

    Conclusion
A lot of people ask, what's the difference between ordering dichroic film and a dichroic mirror?
A dichroic mirror is more scratch resistant, which makes it perfect for applications which require cleaning. You'll want to be careful with your dichroic film not to scratch it.
