- 15 year old Norwegian bass-baryton Bjørn Mathias Tollefsen performs Sarastro's aria "In diesen heil'gen Hallen" from Mozart's opera "The magic flute" with Jæren symphony orchestra at Kleppe primary school in Norway on February 21st 2024.
Beautiful, charming singing. A very nice artist whose confident attitude, arrangement and singing look beautiful against the background of the orchestra. A beautiful aria performed with a voice with a beautiful, velvety, colorful tone, a wide and confident voice. It's quite a difficult piece, with a wide range of scales, from low bass to high baritone, which Bjorn Mathias handled brilliantly. The piece is varied rhythmically, dynamically and in terms of character. Bjorn performed it with a beautiful, full voice, with a juicy, warm timbre full of color. The voice is enriched with overtones, n-harmonics coming from the vocal cords and resonance spaces, giving it a youthful, fresh , bass-baritone sound, and at the same time so mature. Perfects the voice - intonation, emission, articulation, sound - you can see and hear it. That's why his performance is so well received. It is true that the orchestra sometimes accompanied the song a little too loudly, but when we focus on Bjorn's beautiful singing, we only hear him, and the orchestra fades into the background - it is in the background. He cooperates very well with the conductor and the orchestra. Bjorn rose to the challenge he set for himself. He performed this beautiful, rather difficult aria beautifully, expressively and with life, ending with satisfaction and a beautiful smile. It's obvious that he loves music and what he does, and his great talent helps him achieve this 😍💯👍🎶🎤🎻🎺🎷🥁❤🐯🐬. Bravo 👏👏👏, congratulations and best regards, Piotr
Thank you so very very much Piotr, very much appreciated. 💓
Very, very good!
Thank you very much. ❤
Good!!!!
Thank you very much.
He's progressing rapidly! The voice is much richer and sweeter than in his earlier performances of this piece. Is there a way to remix the sound so that he doesn't get drowned out by the orchestra in some places?
Thank you for your kind words. This was a simple camera recording with only 1 microphone, so unfortunately, it is not possible ro remix to highlight voice sections when the orchestra gets louder. But you are certainly right, in some sections he drowns a bit in the orchestra sound. Normally we would secure the right balance by use of a voice microphone, however, his teacher is very strict in insisting that opera singers should never get used to the comfort of a microphone... ☺
@@sveintollefsen1448Nevermind, one can feel the excellent singing! Very, very good!
I'm most impressed with his performance skills and his sure sense of pitch. So spot-on. Bravo!
Thank you so much Bill, much appreciated! ❤
Progressing well.
Thank you. 🙂❤
@@sveintollefsen1448 In his lower bass Bjørn sounds a bit strained. Is it possible to "elevate" (my term, sorry) that a bit. He has a powerful bass.
@@keltus_warrior6491 Thank you for very good comments. We agree, the lower bass interval is still "weak" and struggling to get through the orchestra. It takes a lot of technical training to perfectionate this, which he is working on every day, but in addition to that, this is also actually a consequence of the fact that he is not fully grown yet. As he gets older, this will also help "unstraining" his voice. ☺
@@sveintollefsen1448 Please know that I am not trying to be critical. Just observing and sharing my thoughts as a listener. Bjørn has a poweful voice with excellent range. He has a wonderful future ahead.
@@keltus_warrior6491 Yes we know. Your thoughts are highly appreciated regardless, both critical and noncritical. ☺
