He’ll be fine. He hasn’t been good this year but a 94 OPS + isn’t horrendous. I doubt he returns to his best performances, but i think next year he’ll be a clear top 5 SS still. He still brings good defense and as a mostly unbiased fan I think he will be just fine. Good vid Jolly

Twins fan here. I never watched baseball until this season, so I have no past seasons to compare this season of Correa to. The bat has been not great but he is the only player that consistently wows me on defense in all of MLB. He is truly a highlight reel in the infield. Def my favorite player to watch.
As a twins fan it sucks to see him struggle but I have a feeling that without him they wouldn’t be nearly as good if you replaced him with someone with an identical stat line

Just want to say I've watched Carlos since 2015. When he struggles at the plate he has a rare ability to shift gears and play hard at defense. The guy is incredibly gifted with a glove and by no means should that be overlooked.
As a Twins fan, Correa and Buxton have been struggling a lot this year, which is unfortunate. I think Correa will have a better September (he was the only guy that showed up in September when they collapsed last season) and has been playing better as of late.
I am also optimistic the Twins can break the playoff losing streak. The starting pitching has been great this season, led by Sonny Gray, Pablo Lopez, and Bailey Ober. Also the Twins have a lot of young guys that shown potential, like Eddy Julien, Royce Lewis, Matt Wallner, Alex Kirilloff (currently injured, though), and Ryan Jeffers, who’s the most improved Twin and should get more playing time over Christian Vazquez imo (Jeffers has an .884 OPS compared to Vazquez’s .601 OPS but Vazquez has played six more games).
Our young talent has really been fun to watch, but I didn't expect Buxton and Correa to fall off offensively. Just think if those two could get going and how far this team could potentially go.

Interesting, I watched another video about Tim Anderson's struggles this year and they noticed almost the same thing: taking way more fastballs than he has in previous years and whiffing at the off speed more. I'm thinking both are injury related but it's hard to say.
It really isnt the samething really Anderson hasn't signed a deal like Correa did. But a I get what your saying. Anderson when right is one of the best hitters and SS in the game.
Were Tim Anderson's struggles shocking as well?

I'll have a bit of positive impression of him since he hit the game winning home run for my first MLB game this summer against the Brewers.
The one ray of hope is he's got a pretty long on base streak and is still one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball. It's not over for him yet, and he can easily turn it around
Slightly below average SS defensively this year, that being said he’s been a good hitter lately he’s going to have a great September like he did last year and finish with solid numbers. Of course he’ll be fine

Yeah I'm a twins fan and watch a lot of our games. The dudes glove is amazing. The amount of tough throws to first he's made has sold me as a fan. I think that the hitting is a struggle but something weird was going on with the whole twins batting lineup. I think he will heat up eventually and he's still been hitting with power pretty well. The twins still have him high in the order so it seems like the organization still has faith too.

Hes' struggling offensively, but I think his intangibles are significant. He's insanely supportive of every player, always cheers them from the dugout, and who his baseball mind is exceptional.

Twins fan right here, and I gotta say I’m surprised you didn’t include his GDP stat into this as well. So far this year, he’s already hit 25 GDP in 116 games played, and that leads the league this year. Compared to his highest, which was last year with 18 GDP with 136 games played. I’ve been watching with my dad all year and we’ll have a runner on first or first and second and as soon as Correa comes up, we know he’s gonna roll one over or strikeout, and most of the time it comes true. 80% of the time this year he’s been a rally killer which is so frustrating to watch when our starters have been putting out quality innings all year just to watch Correa roll over a four seamer in the zone for an inning ending double play. The one thing that has been saving him is defense at short, he’s got a vacuum of a glove over there and a cannon of an arm with every throw. Whenever it’s hit in his vicinity it’s basically an automatic out, with him making a stellar play or two at short every game I’ve watched. I just hope he can bounce back next year and beyond for us because I know what he can do offensively and we need that from him to compete and win and do anything in the playoffs.

As a giants fan, I was mad when they signed him and relieved when it didn’t go through. I think he’s a great player, and will hopefully turn things around, but I never imagined he was worth the asking price.

As a Twins fan that watches most games, my biggest takeaway is he needs to start his hands need to be farther back. I think the main problem is he just can’t get his bat through the zone quick enough.
But, he’s still been a fantastic pickup because of his defense, leadership, and postseason experience. Still have hope for C4 and just chalking up this year as a poor one, something that all people who have played baseball probably have experienced.

He is hitting better and the Twins are one feet in the postseason where he always performs well. If he gets 20 HR, plus the premiun defense he provides plus good hitting in the postseason, still can be considered a good season.

It all starts with Machado, the team captain, who signed a huge multi-year extension before the season. He has definitely not lived up to the contract & is having career lows in many offensive categories. Thanks again for sharing your expertise.

just saw this video now for the first time, thankfully carlos played elite defense in the playoffs and went 9/22 with 4 RBI and a .965ish OPS in 6 games. cant wait for opening day
His defense is still top tear and the bat has been heating up as of late, he’s having a down season but people acting like this is the end of the world when it’s not. He will get back on track.

One thing to be optimistic about is that his defense has gotten back to top tier after dropping off the last couple seasons. If it were him aging into regression his defense would probably be regressing too
He looks like a guy that got infected with “Gotpaidinitis”. Its a condition that unfortunately has no cure.
Astro fan here who has followed Carlos close since his first minor league game. I have love for him but it has always boiled down to this issue with carlos. When rolling he is a good to very good player who wants to be paid like an elite player. He never really had many spells where he carried the astros offensively as to where yordan, altuve, springer, bregman and tucker have many times. His leadership in the clubhouse is still missed and I believe Carlos is the best arm on a double play or a cut off throw that I have ever seen. If you created a player in a lab he would look a lot like carlos...its just that hes never maxed out his ability and he certainly isnt worth the money the giants mets and twins threw at him.
I knew you were going to talk about his passivity. Being an Astros fans I watched Correa take the first pitch for years. It was only a matter of time before people just threw the ball down the middle and got ahead of him on the first pitch.

Twins fan here...not concerned. He's the best glove we've EVER had at SS. Hell, he made two plays last night that no other Twins SS would ever have made. His exit velocity is still fine. Better to have him than Baez or Trevor Story, or worse....still be stuck with IKF and Donaldson (Thanks again, Yankees, lol)

Today's game (8/30/2023 v Guardians) is a plain as day example of what you're talkin about, even the announcers called him out for staring at a fastball that was perfect to put into the opposite field.
There is a very good thing though about his 4 seam fastball strikeouts. 4 seam fastballs are far and away the easiest pitch to see every angle possible with. You can brute force your way into learning a strike on that pitch. Correa needs to spend the offseason in a batting cage to pick that up.
All this tells me is they need to do away with the division rankings and just have the best records in the AL and the NL make the playoffs. The twins don’t deserve to make the playoffs. Bc now one of the great teams in the Al East and west won’t make the playoffs bc for some reason the twins get an automatic lock with that terrible record in that awful division. 6 different teams in the AL east and west have above 70 wins. While the twins have 69. It makes it even worse when you look at their division and they’re the only team above .500. It happens every year some trash team from the AL central gets into the playoffs and they immediately get knocked in the first round.
He is unquestionably not as bad as he has been this year. Personally, I think he is pressing because of the contract, probably has some mental blocks from the failed mega deal this off-season, and doesn’t exactly have a lot of help in that offense.
I’ve been saying for a while that he is highly overrated. Even at his best, he is not worth that much money. Worse still, he has an extremely difficult time staying healthy. Not a great recipe for success.
Carlos has shown that he studies tape and studies stats. He knows what's going on with his offense. Now, it's just a matter of cleaning up what can be cleaned up. I think he'll do that. I've often said while he was an Astro that he should be moved to a less demanding defensive position, such as 1B or the outfield. Correa's pride may disagree with that but I think this is a transition he should make now that he has a secure contract.

A season like this from Correa is par for the course with him. All to his good seasons are spaced with one bad one(2018, 2020, 2023) so it’s not hard to say it’s likely he’ll adjust and return to form next season.

The dude got paid, he’s got generational wealth for he and his family. Can’t hate on him for providing for his kids and grandkids. But with how bad this guy’s attitude has been in the past, I can hate on that. I don’t feel bad for his decline at all.
The strikeouts looking would partially account for his ball-in-play statistics being the same. Striking out looking doesn't count against your hard-hit rates

2023 Correa definitely had some bad luck - his BABIP for 2023 was .272, well below his career rate of .318 before 2023. 2018 saw a similar BABIP dip, and he posted a fairly similar 99 OPS+ to 2023's 94. At age 28, even for a SS, he shouldn't be declining, so it's quite possible that this was just some bad luck. Notably, his exit velocity is still pretty good, his line drive rate isn't down, and the only thing that really shifted was a drop in flyballs that was paired with an increase in ground balls. Correa probably needs to work on his swing to get back to barreling balls instead of getting on top of them. Muscles are finnicky things, and I think he can definitely rebound with an offseason to rest, recover, and analyze what happened.

He isn’t in Houston anymore that is why he is struggling. People may not like them but they get the best of their players. When players leave they are as good. Correa is another example of this. George Springer is another example. He hasn’t been as good in Toronto as he was in Houston. Dallas Keuchel too.

Really not sure why this is "shocking", maybe it's the somewhat jaded Giants fan in me but the failed physical from multiple team doctors basically told me outright that he was just as likely to struggle as he would be to perform well.

When he originally came up at the age of 20, many were projecting him to develop into a hitter on the level of a prime Alex Rodriguez. It never happened. Though he became very good, he never became truly great. And now he seems to be on the downslide, a la Mike Trout. But don't cry for the guy. His $200 million contract and hot trophy wife will keep hum smiling.
He's just the typical pro athlete. I can't think of a single "super star" big signing that's producing to the expectations of what they are being paid.

They. Dodged bullets with rodon, judge, and especially Correa. As a dodgers fan I rooted for them to sign correa. For one to have that contract drag them down and two to boo him mercilessly.
Harper is on his way to hall of fame. 2x MVP. Correa once had some of that magic but he is no longer healthy or able to use cans.
