This game HAD to have been designed by people who'd served in the Navy with some country; the UI and way they're presenting the game environment just screams some of the older on ship methods for presenting engagements.

Where you can hear the combat around them via their radio calls, but I could be misremembering?
@@jaca42 Well the Devs have said NFC is set in a kind of Cold War 90's era future so even just crackly shipboard combat chatter would be excellent but that will be way down the line, more important things to focus on at the moment like the new missile update and carriers.
In that case I can really recommend Homeworld Remastered. Very similar control style, (not as refined but the original game is a bit old). The Campaign is really cool and has some great visuals and music!

It certainly has a steep learning curve. And getting into all the customizations is the same. But there is a series of detailed tutorials as well as some automatic systems to help ease players into the game.
Once you know the fundamentals it isnt so bad. It is as micro intensive as you build your fleet to be, and the most micro intensive builds arent always (or even often) the most optimal either.
understanding the games mechanics is easy, id say you can learn all core mechanics in about 1-2 hours. mastering everything the game has to offer is quite a journey though.

Yes, but the Neb universe has STABLE and they actually have teeth. The last time a nation in the Neb universe violated STABLE it got everyone to dogpile the violating nation.
Honestly I'd love to see a game like this on a higher relative velocity, basically have the Engagements themselves last light seconds followed by like a minute or so of maneuvers trying to line up the best pass, trying to get the best relative velocity for sensor lock whilst giving your opponent a hard time to lock, With the information streaming in after the pass as systems record the impacts and damage assessments gets made
Isn't that what Children of a Dead Earth is? May be dead wrong on that since I've only been able to play a few missions, but check it out it sounds like what you'd want!
The Expanse has much, much higher relative velocities than what this game shows. I think Halo, Battlestar Galactica, or Babylon 5 would make better fits for the pace.

Hey Rimmy, normally I wouldn't do something like this, and the odds of you seeing it anyhow are slim, but Nebulous is having its next major update in some 19 days adding an entire new faction and nearly doubling the content in the game. I found the game through this video and now its my most played game in my library so I have to thank you for that. Its been a while since you did anything with this game, so I'm not sure if its something your still interested in, but if you are the new update could be something you enjoy!

Hmmm this is very reminiscent or the Homeworld games, not in like any major way. It is similar in the 3D combat environment but has a more micro playstyle as compared to Homeworlds macro playstyle. Maybe you’d be interested, maybe not. Even still this game is similar enough to the Homeworld series that I’m gonna give this game a try.

Dude if you love that stuff, I HIGHLY recommend you give the Homeworld series a look. The units in those games have some great combat dialogue.

It's nice to see that HOMEWORLD's system for navigating 3D "space", and its realistic radio chatter haven't gone to waste
I really like the way movement is portrayed and the audio absolutely is brilliant at making you feel part of the action
Especially with what happened with Homeworld 3's embarrassingly bad everything
This is a good old one though. Id be down to see a proper campaign with a real story in this!

So I've played the game. It's shockingly not too micro intensive. In fact, the devs deliberately tried to remove micro tax equipment

It's as if Children of a Dead Earth was an RTS and the engines are a hell of a lot better.
This could totally be flavoured to be a The Expanse licence and itd work spectacularly well

I've been interested in 3D strategy games ever since Homeworld. Just like that game, the comm chatter from the ships in this is just that extra touch.
This game reminds me of reading the thrawn books, the level of dynamic fighting and elevation is amazing
