    How do you keep purple heart purple?

  • @NYCustomize
    @NYCustomize 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been using spray shellac but it really darkens and changes the vibrant purple in the wood after sunbathing or heat treating

      +Tetrachromia I know. Once I finish The William I will do a video of how some of the drums sound including the purple heart drum.

    I tried using a rubbing compound on my piece and it just put white compound into all of the grain holes. How did you prevent that

    • @tjdphotography
      @tjdphotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      matt butler ok it sounds like you missed a couple of steps.
      1. Do multiple coating of shellac or varnish. This will seal the grains.
      2. Wet sand 1000 grit then dry.
      3. More coats of shellac.
      4. Wet sand 1500 grit
      5. Final coat of shellac or varnish.
      6. Wet sand 1000 to 1500 to 2000 to 2500. By now it should be the smoothest thing ever!
      7. You are now ready to polish.

    Will this wax coating prevent the purple heart from turning brown?

    • @Alex-jc3xx
      @Alex-jc3xx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing will prevent paduk or purple heart from turning brown but different finishes can slow down the change.

    Your work is beautiful:) great job! Wouldn’t the high gloss and reflection in a well lit room take way from your work on the top?

    How did you get the purpleheart sooo purple?

      I'd love to know how you got that color so awesome as well? Looks incredible. I'm building a PH dining table, and trying to figure out how to get that same color. Heat seems to do the trick, but I'm afraid I will warp the table or worse, undo the glue.

    It's been a little over a yr since you posted this. How has the purple color held up?

    • @tjdphotography
      @tjdphotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eduardo Ramirez it is still the same color. I know people say it can turn brown overtime. But I haven't seen any evidence of that.

    I am making a Bluetooth speaker. The front is Purple Heart, the box is red oak. Did you wax your box as well, or did you stain it first?

    • @rustyp21
      @rustyp21 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and what type of wood is your box made of?

    • @tjdphotography
      @tjdphotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Peat I used shellac first. Wet sanded between coats up to 2500 grit and then polished it with Meguires rubbing compound, polish and then griots carshow wax.
