Do you think if laena and viserys had sons, corlys rhaenys and lhaena wouldnt push for them to be the heir? The truth is that irrelevant of who viserys married, the succession issue was inevitable

Finally an explanation - cause in the book the green color is only Alicent's favorite. But now it has more significance - it is expression of a position in future conflict
@@Wikia3033 It's in the book too in the chapter about Maegor the cruel. "the beacon fire atop the Hightower turned into a baleful green as Martyn Hightower called his banners to war" But the show made this link more obvious.
Changing Alicent’s age was the best decision they made for this show. In the book, Alicent is a really one-dimensional character, nothing more than a greedy step-mother. In the show, they added so much depth to the character. Even though Rhaenyra's claim is the rightful one, I actually find myself empathizing more with Alicent. Her entrance in this scene was really incredible. It brings tears to my eyes to know the tragedy that is coming.

Everybody, quite rightly so, loves this scene because it is the turning point in the story. It appropriately happens exactly half way through the first season, and at a westerosi wedding no less. The turning point of course is that alicent has chosen her family and children over her allegiance to rhaenyra, the king, and house targaryen. This is the foundation of the upcoming dance of the dragons. The best part is that whilst both factions are not innocent, we completely sympathise with her stance here. This is exactly what a game of thrones plot and story should be doing. 👏
This! This was the highlight! Easily in the top 5 soundtracks of GoT. It's sinister yet valiant at the same time. Like. A warning of things to come.
I really love the velaryon theme showcased in this episode as well. It feels so grand and fancy yet has that swashbuckling pirate feel kinda showing us their history with the sea 🌊

I love what they did with her in the show. She is far more multidimensional, and she is actually a pretty decent Queen, politically savvy, gracious with the lords and ladies, pious.... all the qualities that would be viewed as important for a medieval Queen. And she seems to truly care for Rhaenyra, and their relationship, always trying to reach out and mend the rift. But she abandons any loyalty to her, feeling betrayed and lied to. But more importantly she also realizes that between her children and her friend, she is now a mother first and foremost. And as Otto pointed out, her children will always be an obstacle to Rhaenyra. She wore the green dress to signal to loyalists and supporters of her and her sons, that despite her father being gone she is now the leader of the Green faction and the beacon around which they will rally around. The realization on her face when Otto tells her to choose had me thinking of that epic sentence : "When you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die". She finds herself now fully in it, and she has to play to win it. Even if it was not her choice at first. Great episode !!
Her father his gone? Otto is dead? I thought he died later in the books. (I haven't read the books, only a summary online via TH-cam)

They might sound similar because both this song and Light of the Seven are both related to the Faith of the Seven in a way. Light of the Seven was made for Cersei's trial which was being conducted by the Faith, in the Great Sept of Baelor. This song is basically house Hightower's theme, and house Hightower are the lords of Oldtown which is where the Starry Sept, the center of the Faith, is located. The Hightowers are deeply tied to the Faith.

Look at the red wedding or the purple wedding or Robb starks wedding. There the brides also did not wear white dresses. That was not accurate for the Middle Ages in europe.

Goosebumps and tears, having read the books I’m literally crying listening to this song and when I watched this scene, same as in episode 1 when rhaenyra was named heir, it’s so melancholy I couldn’t hold back tears. This story is going to explode and I’m gonna love every second of it

Yet another example of music being absolutely key to the atmosphere of a scene. The cinematography and acting was amazing too and brought it all together but the music was what then took it above and beyond.

I absolutely LOVE what they are doing to Alicent. The first episodes there is an innocence within her and she is just doing her duty. But this theme, the Green dress, the confidence is a statement that she is playing the Game of Thrones. There is such a sinister and yet royal undertone in this theme. I love it. I am #TeamRhaenerya and #TeamBlack allday. But damnit.. I kind of want to root for TeamGreen as well...

I love the fact that the showrunners are dedicating a whole 5 episodes to the younger versions of these characters, it really sets a strong foundation for the real story which we will see at the end of this season and the following seasons. They’ve done an amazing job!

The wife of Lord Mance Tyrell and mother of his four children (Margarey among them) is a Hightower, so they still have tremendous influence in the Reach and Joffrey has awarded them lands from the noble families who supported Stannis in the Blackwater. Also, they are said several times to be the richest family in Westeros alongside the Lannisters.
Also, let's not forget that the Lord Commander of the Mad King's kingsguard was a Hightower and that they are for now the only family who has repelled an attack by Euron's fleet.
I hope Aemond will inherit some of his mothers theme. This and Vhagar would be epic af

@@JTCN0 well... lets just say if it wasnt for alicent's stupidity and obsession with making her son the king, the upcoming fate of the targaryen line woulld be a lot better and westeros would be in much better shape in the following centuries... right here is the moment she starts sealing her fate and the fate of her children, grandchildren, her father, her uncle and thousands of innocent people and ultimately starts the downfall of house targaryen... rhaenyra's fate might be bad but it was quick, alicent on the other hand gets to live with what shes done and the knoladge of what it cost her only to know that in the end rhaenyra, even though not directly still wins. so yeah... fuck alicent hightower and her little brats

Only now I realized this melodie plays very softly when Otto talks with Alicent before leaving KL.
It gives a lot of 'gothic story', 'evil queen', 'dark fairytale' kind of vibe. She almost resembled Maleficient with her late arrivial and green motif.
It seems a theme for House Lannister and Tyrell combined! Strenght and elegance, power and ambition, a great warning for everyone! Alicent is in the great Game now
That scene with the music was otherworldly
It's insane that HotD wasn't nominated for Emmy in any capacity... The actors, the score, the costumes, the set? It was almost perfection. Especially if you compare it with other fantasy shows this year 🙄
i also love the sort of distinction that is made between the Strong brothers in this scene, like Harwin the muscle and not particularly the cleverest of the family comments on how Alicent's entrance ruins the king's speech on a superficial level. and yet Larys points out the the deeper meaning in Alicent's statement, namely: Alicent chose to wear the colour green, the colour which usually calls Oldtown's banners to war as a statement of her own power and defiance at the Targaryens she's surrounded by. i believe its just an amazing piece of character not really development but more like character clarification concerning the dynamic between the two brothers.
I know that Rhaenyra seems to have a theme in the show. I hope this is Alicents own theme because this is stunningggg
House Hightower is very underrated, If not for royal (dragon) backing, the Tyrells would've succumbed to their power and influence in the Reach long ago.

House Tyrell will likely be deposed by the end of the books too, several theories about it. Likely by the Tarlys and Rowans.

Honestly, i was sort of expecting Alicent to make a dramatic entrance and even I was surprised by how impactful it was. The entire scene was great. It was the moment that Alicent went from pawn to player in the game of thrones.

Rhaeynra used the story about Daemon as a means to gaslight Alicent and hide the truth about actually having sex with Criston. One of the underlying concerns with the accusation in the first place was whether or not Rhaeynra was still a maiden. Skew it how you like, but I don't think its fair to say "Rhaeynra did nothing wrong."

This song and theme were badass
Team Black all the way when I was reading the books, but this show has done an admirable job of fleshing out the Greens and making them just as sympathetic. Emily Carey's humanizing performance of Alicent Hightower, in particular. Her showing up in this dress and stealing the scene has to be one of the best moments so far.
Alicent will turn into that wicked cunt she is in the books. Once we see adult Alicent, we will hate her! Or maybe the show will make me love her. Let’s see

This scene where Alicent Higtower apparence with your green drees, i remember more when Cersei Lannister destroyed the gorrions. Two Queens marvellous. I love the female villains like Maleficent, Ursula, Grimhilde, Cersei Lannister, Ravenna and now Alicent Hightower.
