That is in fantastic condition. Even the oil pot that dampens the return stroke works perfectly!

It did need some help, when I got it it had the remains of an animal nest in it, and I ended up mostly disassembling the mechanism for cleaning. The dashpot did have a good amount of the original oil in it, but some of it had turned to wax so I cleaned it all out and filled it with fresh oil. The paint was flaking off so I lightly cleaned then repainted it, with the goal of making it look decent but not freshly painted. All in all im happy with it, especially the perfect glass

That is in amazing shape! I have to assume that you got it from a private collector that prized it.

Actually when I got it it had probably set in an attic or barn for a number of years, as it had the remains of an animal nest in it (including some nuts). I mostly disassembled the mechanism for cleaning, and as the paint was flaking off I lightly cleaned and put a fresh coat of paint on it (with the goal of making it look good without looking freshly repainted). Im happy with how it came out, especially the perfect glass, which seems to be pretty uncommon in these machines

@@bss1250 Oh wow, that looks immaculately clean inside for having had something nest inside of it. That must've been work bringing it back to that condition. I can see the repaint job now that you specifically mentioned it but it still looks great.

I have a Number 9 Burroughs machine. Is there a way i can tell the age based off of the serial? My glass is also in fantastic shape as well as the interjals but pretty rusted on the back hardware used for printing is pretty rusted.. would you recommend full disassembly and the rusteze or something on the metal bits to help with removing the rust?

There is this list burroughsinfo.com/when-was-my-machine-made.html, I had found a more detailed one before but now I cant find it. Usually disassembly and individual cleaning of each part is the best, as long as you can get it back together again
