In this lesson from Oli's Rock House DVD he shows a complete lead that features an arsenal of Oli's favorite techniques such as Chromatic and Hungarian minor scales, augmented arpeggios and economy picking to make a challenging rip your face off shred lead! www.RockHouseMethod.com - เพลง
He's 35, I went to the moncton concert and talked to him for like 40 mins about chill stuff... he's the coolest guy ever, so chill.
Oli has the best conservation of motion I've ever seen! His fingers are so precise and do so little work to rip out those blazing solos. Watching the video for Chiron, and this video as well, just blows me away watching how easy he makes soloing look.
It's really about learning what is inside the riff, the techniques used, concepts, how he contructs plus you really need to see what comes before and after. This is just a sample of a product. The idea of all our products is to get that stuff and figure out how to make it your own.
One of my new fav guitarists right here. Great stuff Oli ;)
I have to admit... I never really heard much of this guy until I checked out the dvd. Pretty crazy playing! Kudos Rockhouse for this entire Metal DVD collection... I got the Loomis one as well.. that one is by far the best thing I've seen all year!
I thought this was a really informative lesson and I definitely got a lot out of it as far as some great ideas on how to combine the augmented arpeggios with the hungarian minor scale. Great lesson, thanks rockhouse
man, Oli is such a great guitarist, i would never have thought of so many uses for augmented arpeggios or chromatic runs. but then again, I'm still pre-mature in writing music. I'm relatively new to it. I just started composing about 2 and a half years ago when I was first learning how to play. For the most part, I don't even compose, I just practice a lot and learn a lot. It'll do me good in the long run though, I hope to be somewhere along the lines of Oli someday.
Jeff Loomis is coming to Rock House in August to shoot his Rock House programs!
oli has so much potential as a guitarist. definitely one of the best metal has to offer these days.
what a chill, smart dude
i love his vibrato
that guitar looks fucking sick with the natural finish!
My favorite thing about Oli is that he knows his theory, one of the most important things about mastering any instrument,
I had met Oli right before an ATR concert. He is a fucking nice and great person, and he played fuckin awesome to on that concert =P
I fucking love Oli! met him at the 1st sounds of the underground in El Paso, TX just waking around anywho:
-my personal take on this solo is yeah at some point it does sound like random notes but its kinda like the whole dissonance deal, he's puts those notes and scales together to resolve everything, but like i said he puts it all together to make everything sound like your getting over "something" darkest before the dawn type of deal and then resolves it at the end!
Holy shit... He's awesome.
such an underrated guitarist
Great video...and that's a really nice guitar!
On a second note, i must say... the fact you didn't cut out the part where he makes a mistake probably made a lot of people feel better about attempting the lick, like it did me. It's kinda cool to know the dude is human.
That's called give ya the detail. I guess it shows what really goes into creating this!
Damn that was a 10 min instruction video for a 10 sec solo lol
@MajorShmoopy yea a X series. its called a XPT700. awesome guitar to play
awesome
hes such a pro
this guy should record a solo album, he's solos are unique
he's a really good guitarist
@MusicOfDevil They use differant tunings on differant albums. On The Fall Of Ideals, on most of the songs they use d standard, but on Overcome they used C#. which as JonnyZywiciel said, is 1 and 1/2 steps down.
i like the intro song...two weeks is really good
it doesnt sound like the solo when he plays it slow haha.
Oli is my biggest inspiration
@therockhouse XD i need to buy more of your dvd's
@MajorShmoopy Ibanez XPF700 I believe, I think I heard that somewhere or read it on their website, I cant remember for sure where it was lol.
his hair is so awesome
SO MUCH THEORY....
MY BRAIN....
buy his DVD at rock house method web site, they are on presale and it is a great deal
i like it and i understand thank god for learning theory!
He's such an underrated guitarist, like thailand boy pop waravit!
i met oli yesterday he is a strange dude, but a really nice guy
@metallicatriviumPwN haha i love how he says that then it sounded like he was out of time a lot lol
@MrTeh0z talking gear? Ibanez Xiphos guitar with what looks to be EMGs. Don't know what amps, he has a (I think) Dual Rectifier and some sort of Peavey in the back though...
I like Oli, he knows his shit!!
@jakesplosion111
this makes music sense
it is just a lot of variations
what does that even mean, I have to say that is the strangest comment we have ever had. There is not right or wrong, it is a creativity and that is his way!
you have to buy the product and then you get a member number that gives you access to get all of them free
Hey i'm not the only metal head who takes care of my hair lol
Alexi will be back for at least to DVDs with Rock House
Not at all, that is just his way, in fact he was so confident and knowledgeable that we actually had to ask him to simplify stuff.
Hahahah! "Kind of seems like a bunch of like random notes... right there...but....it's not" Oli is the best.
my only criticism is that we should hear the lick FIRST! so that i knwo the context for what i'm about to learn instead of having to wait til the end of the vid, then rewatch it and pay attention... either way, i understand that this is a free sample for a nonfree DVD, so its the not format it was maid for/i shouldn't be complaining, but i figured i just throw that out there...
@otherrandomhero you need to see the video on his chiron solo it actually makes musical sense
WOO! oli fuckin rules!! are there 1 or 2 DVDS? i gonna but them lol
@BMXshark Two Weeks by All That Remains
9 minutes and 30 seconds tutorial for a 10 second solo. Awesome! haha
@MegashadX teaching you as in private lessons...or you're using the videos? just curious
yea im pretty sure he didnt have a recording studio full of effects behind him to give him the album quality in this video
actually, Behind Silence and Solitude was in B standard.
i always imagined oli's voice to be deeper
You are looking at one lesson from a 2 DVDs also Oli's products won instructional DVDs of the year out of every single instructional DVD that was released this year. not sure but could it be that maybe you need to work a little harder so that you can understand?
haha, oli's hillarious
that has to be one of the most pain in the ass solos to play and to have written...
i want the song at the beginning
I hear what you are saying, but isn't that exactly the point of the product? He shows you how he does it, then you take what he teaches then see if you can apply certain elements of what he does to what you do, then you start to develop a style of the way you do it. That is what the point is of what we are trying to bring!
And the word of the day is...IMPLOY!!!
I shook this mans hand. What a god lol
ok, im thinking of buying this DVD, anyone have it? im wondering if everything on the DVD is this complicated cause im not up to this level yet
OMG sure he got the new Ibanez Xiphos !
does anybody know what cabinet oli uses? i know he uses a 6505+ head and in this video a XXX but can someone please tell me what cab he uses
@viperabs
Who the hell are you? he is far far from amateur-ish he just has so much knowledge in his head and his tastes change over time.
@00sven00sven00 ur not far off dude, it was 12.....
but the drift is indeed "got"
@TheMusiciansFriend Sorry but we are not going to pour our hearts into trying to make great products and then have people come up here and just trash. We're going to stick up for ourselves and get our artists backs. especially when someone who has no clue writes something! That is just the way it is!
@MrHalowarrior1
I have been thinking about stuff like that a lot lately...like are some people just "born" to play...like Dave mustaine for example said he never really had to practice ever, he just could always play really fast...but I don't think this is like "uber" playing beyond anyone's reach....if you slow it down and learn the little nuances and then work your way up to the speed oli plays it..The hard part is not playing the notes, but playing with speed + accuracy. Takes practice :)
I do
When it was played slow, i didn't really get it. When faster, it sounded sort of like a holdsworth lick. Cool stuff.
They are all awesome bands, I just say KSE at the Music as a Weapon show great guitarist but they don't play any leads so it is hard to compare. Each is pretty unique in their own right
They used to but now in the new album it's C# standard.
did you learn something from it? we really like to break it down.
Does aanyone know what tuning oli uses in his songs
@viperabs this product is not for the casual view
I've heard by a ton of people that Oli was a dick in real life, which is kind of sad because i've always wanted to meet him. Loved his work on This Darkened heart and that really got me into guitar a lot more then I was.
@Ellinarkkari i played it once....its fuckin awesome. not his u know but the same kind.
When does this actually come out?
I did. But some of the terminlogy is beyond me right now haha. Had to wiki a lot of it. Great way to learn about music I guess, instead of just following tabs.
this dude is awesome! and i really look up too him...but on this solo or video...it sounds like a bunch of random notes but idk.
@viperabs i dont think that the casual viewer should be trying to learn this type of solo. its got a lot of advanced techniques.
2:23 - 2:46 thank god im not the only one terrible at that! lol
id have to disagree on the vocals, he still has his heaviness but thats one of those things that almost happens to most of the great metal bands out there, its still kick ass though, phil labonte is one badass singer!
they better tour australia soon
Where can you download the backing track?
lmao...i did to man.....i have hes autograph when he came over to pony land.....
anyone got the tabs?
ATR!!!!!!!!!!
@jweaver6666 you don't have to be the best guitar player in the world to teach someone something, you just have to be willing. I mean have you ever seen yngwie's instructional products, i mean come on who can learn from those.
what guitar is he using, an Ibanez X?
wats the name of the first song ???
i think theyre unique, they sound cool though
@viperabs changing his own solo cuz he doesnt like it for ANY REASON does not make him amature-ish at all. its actually a reason it makes him all that much better than average guitarists. you write what you like for yourself and if ppl like it great if not wutever. but you cant go around trying to please other people. if he thinks his solo sounds better a different way then so be it. doesnt make him any less of a pro.
@viperabs he does not want the casual veiwer to understand, he only wants serious musicians to have a chance to play his shit.
its funny how he spends almost ten minutes teaching the solo, then burns through it in ten seconds XD
what does Oli use?
He has another one in back...
what's a "triad" ?
@viperabs
I don't believe this lesson was intended for "casual" viewers".
