I'm so glad you have posted this video Kevin. My friend recently died from falling in a tree well in Whistler. I was clueless of this danger until it happened. It's awesome that you are teaching people to be as safe as possible along with all the fun stuff you film.
I knew about the dangers of avalanches but never realized riding through trees could be so dangerous. I think it helps to have an avalanche pack with the shovel and transmitter, etc on you when you're riding trees as well.
Thank you so much for bringing awareness to the tree wells i had never heard of them untill now. I started snowboarding 3months ago and I've been working on riding near the trees and I'm always riding alone. I'll definitely be more cautious and I'll look for more information on how to get out of one. thank you so much.
+SnowboardProCamp These are the type of videos that I love man. The "iphone Snowboarding Vlog | Whistler Powder | Hitcase" video is one of, if not my favorite video of yours. Would love to have more of these to watch during the grueling summer months. By the way, how do you get the audio to capture your voice so well on the gopro? Do you have an external mic/separate mic for that? EDIT: Just saw the comment beneath this one. (You use the open backing)
Another tip for avoiding tree wells, never make a turn close to a tree well on the uphill side as the snow could collapse down into the well. If you have to turn close to a well, do it after on the down side.
Awesome videos! Great instructions. I had a hard time with jumps and Ollie's last year. After watching your videos I finally figured out jumping and carves. Thanks for the help.
I'm a fairly new snowboarder (about 3 season) the first time I heard of tree well was this year after stumbling some TH-cam video about tree well. I'm somewhat scared now cus I. Remember this year I had just started some tree runs everytime a good inches of snow hit the local ski resort. I usually do it by myself too. There are times that I would hit a tree and fall on a well but never up side down so I guess I'm pretty damn lucky and would always shrug it off. I'm such a newbie 😫 I'm definitely not doing tree run without a friend anymore.
Backcountry guides have told me that wells around smaller trees (8-10 ft) can actually be much more dangerous than larger trees. So watch the smaller trees too when skiing or riding in a deeper snowpack. Also try to avoid making your turns directly above a tree. If you fall, the likelihood of ending up in a well is much higher.
I have been riding trees since November, this is my first season, I knew hitting trees is obviously dangerous but I didn't realize how dangerous tree wells are.
I think to get the channel even sicker Upload more frequent Have it as a goal . Upload every other day or what ever you feel is possible. Keep shredding out in mount bach and whistler
There was recently a man named Blake that died at China Peak Ski resort in Huntington California. Pray for him. I didn’t know him but we share names. He died in a tree well just like this that I have skied passed many times. Thank you for teach this lesson on tree well safety. #rideforblake
Argh i just came back from a snowboarding holiday and it was sick and watching this just make smell jealous! XD I managed to pull of a 360 thanks to your vids :)
I got stuck once in a tree well at buttermilk-aspen! I was riding alone and took me great effort to climb out of it, specially since I went heads first =( Took me a couple minutes and lots of efforts hahaha xD
I am sooo jealous :D I really like it when you are holding the cam behind you...i dont know its just nice to see wants in front of you and how you are you reacting Loved the Video =)
What wax do you use ??? I just got a button blunt and I hit the slopes once with the factory wax and the board is all white on edges and even in middle. I am wondering if I get some base remover or do hot wax remove .. What should I use guys ?
I actually fell in a tree well yesterday. There was a 4 year old laying in the middle of a tree trail, so instead of running her over I had to bail into a tree well. I was able to get out but i did have my friend.
Hey Kevin, do you use an external microphone or the GoPro internal mic ? Your sound is super clear for a GoPro camera, chatting and even riding ! Or maybe you mount it with the Frame (no case) ?
+En Vadrouille I'll check out some external mics for sure. I've just been using the GoPro with the open door backing. It's hard to find a setup where you can get good sound and not worry about getting everything wet.
+SnowboardProCamp I know man ! Audio is terrible with full case. But then with open case, it gets risky for your GoPro (your sound is still pretty good amazingly). Here's what I've been thinking for best sound : recording the sound (when talking) separately on your iPhone with earplugs ! (From the mic of the Apple earplugs). You'll have your earplugs on the screen sure, but what's wrong with that when snowboarding ?? I'll give it a try before the end of the season. Tell me what do you think of that. Cheers from France.
+SnowboardProCamp copper mountain in colorado i went at least once a week. this year was my first season on a groomed mountain but I've been riding since I was 8 haha I grew up on a mountain, hit a line and hike back up that's how I learned. I learned alot of my stuff this season though from your videos so a big thanks for that!
ok ive been making my first videos snowboarding and one thing from yours that i love is how steady your shots are. how do you keep it so steady on a pole? I tend to twist the direction i turn.. thank you if you answer.
Hey man sweet video. I have two questions I was hoping you could answer for me. 1. Do you use any post production stabilization? 2. Audio sounded pretty good on this. Is this a GoPro in the skeleton case or did you have external mic hooked up. Thanks and keep making sick videos.
Hey Kevin, thanks for all the great content. Currently I live in England and i can only get to the mountains for a total of about 1 week a year. I am on a very limited budget but have spotted a board which would suit me for under 200 dollars. is it worth buying it considering that I still need to buy bindings and boots, or would I be better off just renting my kit every time?
What board is it that you saw? Definitely buy your board and other equipment if you can get the chance, it beats renting equipment by a mile. As it's coming to the end of the season the prices will have already started dropping so you may be able to find some good bindings and boots at a decent price.
Its called the DC focus i think. Im trying to get into park riding a bit more now that i can fs and bs 180 and can board slide boxes etc. Opinion of the board? ELCNUmorFnaMehT
+Tom Appelboam I'd say it's definitely a good first board, plus if you are leaning more to the park/jib side of snowboarding but still want something to take all over the rest of the mountain then it's a great choice. I've always found that you can find DC boards for dirt cheap if you look in which you will get A LOT for your money's worth from them (I've got two DC MLFs).
+Tom Appelboam The cheapest bindings I can find on the net are some Rome United bindings on Surfdome for £66. I don't really have any experience with them so you may have to do your research on them or if anyone on here is kind enough to give their opinions and experiences on them. You may be able to find cheaper on EBay but in terms of online shops that is the cheapest I can see so far.
Sweet video! When you use the pole for your camera, have you weighted the handle area? With my pole (made from an old hockey stick) the end where my gopro sits is way heavier than the handle, so it gets awkward to carry after a while. Do you know any ways to fix this or make it better? Thanks!
A few months ago I was riding on a small trail through trees and it was warm and the snow was unstable and the trail collapsed underneath me and I lost control and hit a small tree and broke my ribs.
+Jason Lang I'm going to continue all year! Whistler and possibly Mt Hood in the summer. Also a trip to New Zealand or Australia might happen. Thanks for watching!
+SnowboardProCamp Don't come here in Aus... I have been snowboarding here before and its pretty ordinary, the runs are short the mountains are small and there is little snow... On the other hand it is a great experience to learn how to ride in these conditions... although it is challenging and not as fun (imo) (I am doing all my comparisons here to places in Japan such as Hakuba where I go instead of Aus..)
+SnowboardProCamp It depends what type of riding you're after really. NZ has big open alpine expanses and ZERO trees on the resorts. Australia has abit of alpine stuff, but riding through eucalypt trees is an experience unique to Australia. Personally I would recommend Perisher in Australia over the other Aus resorts, but I can't make any recommendations on NZ resorts other than the few around Queenstown/Wanaka seem to be popular. The snow is abit hit and miss, both in NZ and Aus. Late July to early September is best in Aus. There can be periods with little to no snow, but it can also get some large dumps (20-50cm) in good storms. Some backcountry on the main range (Kosciuszko National Park in NSW) is a lot of fun too.
How do you get such good sound on your camera? I use a GoPro on pole but the sound is muffled (although it is inside a waterproof case) - do you use any mic/other equipment? Thanks :)
Hey, Kevin... Hoping that this comment will go to your reading comments video, but where do you find these mountains where the trees are... Im living in Estonia! (Go look that place up)
My dad was at bachelor hitting the backside a few years ago and when he got home that day he saw that they pulled a dead body from a tree well on the run he did that day. The lady had died that day! Tree wells r sketch

+Cherith Rolph Yeah, its really tragic what happened in Whistler. That was actually what inspired me to bring awareness to the topic.
I knew about the dangers of avalanches but never realized riding through trees could be so dangerous. I think it helps to have an avalanche pack with the shovel and transmitter, etc on you when you're riding trees as well.

A 24 year old boarder and 19 year old skier were both killed in tree wells yesterday at Mt Bachelor. These were unrelated incidents :(
zoidburg woop around 3:00 had me dying
Best snowboarder in the trees saying "I hope this goes back to the chair" hahaha
Stay tuned for the important message at the end of the video!

how can someone in texas with little money start snowboarding?
MrMastrmonstr depends on where, if youre in North Texas drive to Los Alamos, New Mexico for Pajarito Mt

That is my dream right there. Backcountry through the trees and in fresh powder. Perfect!
+Justin Willey If you get the chance check out Mt Bachelor. I really loved the tree riding there!
+SnowboardProCamp ill try. Thatnks. Keep up the great work. I love ur vids
he holds the pole so steady. this is my favorite video.
Nice snow! Our local hill (Lee Canyon, Las Vegas) ended the season 2 weeks ago.
One of the most important things for every rider to know. Great video. 👍🏼

+OTCMike USMC it's hard to film like that, it throws off your balance
+OTCMike USMC Cool! I try and mix up the shots, but I'll try and get more of the views from behind.

What wax do you use ??? I just got a button blunt and I hit the slopes once with the factory wax and the board is all white on edges and even in middle. I am wondering if I get some base remover or do hot wax remove .. What should I use guys ?

I was nervous just watching you fly through the trees around the 4:15-4:50 area
So can you ride up the banks of tree wells?
Hey Kevin, thanks for all the great content.

Thanks for the good hints! :) nice video as alway!
I love you Bachelor!
A few months ago I was riding on a small trail through trees and it was warm and the snow was unstable and the trail collapsed underneath me and I lost control and hit a small tree and broke my ribs.
+The Hobbit Sam Sorry to hear that man!
It’s true Garrett suffocating in snow is dangerous ✅😎
Is your sandbox a wake helmet? I am trying to decide between a Bern and Sandbox
Tight tight tight:D Nice Tuco Salamanca reference Garett:D
This is my first season watching you, do you continue all year? Or just stop in the summer
+Jason Lang I'm going to continue all year! Whistler and possibly Mt Hood in the summer. Also a trip to New Zealand or Australia might happen. Thanks for watching!

Dreadiedude #1980 I think Falls creek is the way to go because everyone from Sydney goes to Perisher so Falls is a bit quieter with more runs ect.
How do you get such good sound on your camera? I use a GoPro on pole but the sound is muffled (although it is inside a waterproof case) - do you use any mic/other equipment? Thanks :)
When you live in Ohio and you've never had a pow day so this doesn't relate :(
Braden Atchison lol u don't have any pow days in Australia either, it's all slushy, if not ice or just fine snow
When you live in the UK and the only mountains you have are in Scotland which is a 6hr drive away and too expensive anyway :(
Caitlin West, oof size large
@@outofcontextdude130 pahahaha
a wild garrett appeared... yaooo
do you think it is worth getting a season pass to resorts
Depends how much you go. At my resort it's cheaper to get a pass then buy lift tickets ten times but prices vary everywhere
such good advice.
Awesome advice!!
I once fell in a tree well, backwards but luckely i did have my brother with me so he was there to help me out
i always used tree wells as nature made ramps lol
Hey keven, she kinda pole do you use for your GoPro?
I always wonder how come the selfie stick doesn't move side to side?
Delboy they get a drone to fly really close in front of them and hold the stick for balance
how do you navigate through the trees
one day i was going down a tree path next to a 10 ft drop couldn't heel side edge so i couldn't get to toe side edge fast enough and ate it
Hey, Kevin... Hoping that this comment will go to your reading comments video, but where do you find these mountains where the trees are... Im living in Estonia! (Go look that place up)
what make is your riding jacket?
Tree wells are like venus fly traps. The trees are carnivorous in winter, having to rely on fresh meat for energy, in lieu of sunlight.
You should try outback the lift👌
what american authors remix is this? it's sick!
nice spot!!
you think the trees were tight in that one spot? well you haven't been to Australia then!

what goggles r u wearing?
What type of pole do you use? I want to get one but i dont know where i can buy it
+Bananatetur I'm using a GoPole. I bought it at BestBuy.
+SnowboardProCamp thank you so much! Love your videos man, keep up the good work❤️
love the videos!
Nice powder
Thank you for not using the 360 camera I love when you use the GoPro
+Luke Divi haha! I left the 360 camera at home for this trip.
What helmet is that?
Where Are you riding?
+Cryp Tox This is at Mt Bachelor in Oregon, USA.
+SnowboardProCamp what wax should I use ?? I have a new board and only went once..
+SnowboardProCamp only once with new board
+Austin Rydberg your board still has factory wax if you bought it brand new. Best wax you'll ever get.
+Garrett Okun my board is already dried out. I rode in slushy soft snow..
Where did you get your helmet from?
+cameron pollard it's a sandbox helmet, from around the whistler area
Tree wells are awful, I think we've all fallen into them at some point. Can be scary to work your way out of!
Nice helped a lot
haven't ever seen snow in person.
+SamTheSalamander one day!
the vids are great
goooood job!!!
I almost died in a treewell. Inverted for hours. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Never went in the backcountry again.
our mnts havn't been open for like a month :(
I always ride trees solo 😬
If I waited to have a partner to ride through trees with id never be able to go out snowboarding honestly
Fell in a well in Utah, pretty scary
Did you die?
I wish I could go all year
Nvm u did do that one
hey i live in oregon
Go ducks!
Too bad New York has had like zero snow this season:/
Your so rad
Tree Ninjas Unite! :-D
I wish I could find people to ride with

Use the tree to get yourself above the snow perhaps
those trees look sketchy
I ride at bachelor
Dude you are too good of a rider to look like a gaper, c'mon!!!!!
You were one his TH-cam comment q and a
yeah, I felt kinda bad afterwards haha I didn't mean it in a douchy way, just a jokingly way lmao
Well, for one my comment was not about looks. It was about his unsafe helmet and it also just so happened to have a gap in between his goggles and helmet so it looked funny.
Chill.
