I was amazed to learn that Donald Sutherland was never nominated for an Oscar... He was a great actor, an extraordinary performer, how is that possible, please? Of course, I don't know why I'm surprised. Glen Close is also another great actress and has not won a single Academy Award. Regrettable. R.I.P. Mr. Sutherland

Sutherland had a long, illustrious career, starting in English horror pictures by Hammer Film Productions in early 1960s. A star-making role in Altman's MASH in 1970 vaulted him into the mainstream. My favorite performance by him was in " Don't Look Now " in 1973. He will be missed.

The performances in ORDINARY PEOPLE were subtile and so very different from previous roles especially Mary Tyler Moore. The movie portrayed real life though perhaps a bit of dramatic license in a manner seldom if ever seen. The movie just stuck with me for years and years, though Timothy Hutton never did anything really profound after that. Sutherland was a terrific actor though he never knew what would be left on the cutting room floor, I have stopped going to movies and watching unrealistic portrales.
