If this performance doesn’t convince you to see Mdou live…can’t believe how lucky I was to see him last year at a small pub in regional Australia, 100-200 people there. The energy was insane, he had everyone dancing, and closed his set out with this song - sometimes leaving the stage to shred in amongst the crowd. One of the best gigs of my life for sure. 🤘
I guessed it the first time I saw this video. Now I can't wait the moment I will see Mdou in real. I know he will be in Paris in august, actually going there is the main goal of my life.
These 4 were put on this planet to make music together. No doubt. The rhythm guitarist doesn't get nearly enough love, that dude is doing some HEAVY lifting. I've noticed that the bass player finds a lot of super creative grooves and he sits in the pocket beautifully, but he isn't really providing harmony the way we're used to hearing bass players do in typical rock bands.. Which is actually a really cool thing, because it opens up this lane for the rhythm guitarist to really take the reigns and give all of the melodic flourishes that we're hearing some thunder.. some harmonic depth.. It's really interesting, because he's basically doing what we hear bass players do in rock music.. except he's doing it on rhythm guitar. So on top of being that centerpiece for the harmony, he's also providing some punk rock-esque textures. Man I'm so into this right now, this is LEGIT. so glad this was recommended.
Even though life is hard and unfair. These are the moments I'm glad I keep breathing. To live at a time where I can access music and hear everything from ancient music to the most modern all over the world and then these gems I cherish. Amazing sound work it's just mind blowing.
One of those special moments in music where a group of world class musicians come together and are all perfectly in sync, making amazing music. I won't be forgetting these guys anytime soon.
He reminds me a lot of Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page throw in a little Santana as well. I'm not taking away from him because he is unique in his own style.
Saw them at Sonic Blast 2022 in Portugal, the whole crowd ended up singing "Afrique Victime" with him after the concert ended with the sunset, it was absolutely incredible. They are coming to my town in December and i know i'll be there.
One of the best live performances I ever saw was Mdou at NOLA jazz fest 2023! He jumped off the small stage in the tent and was jamming out on the floor right in front of me. They are all amazing musicians and their excitement and energy is infectious. You can't help but be energized by the music
saw this guys at sonic blast 2022 in portugal..... even tough they were a little strange on the lineup they stole the festival hearts. would love to see them again for sure. come back to portugal please
i like how much this version makes shine every member. still, i cant help but to have a preference for mdou, god bless the day he first touched a guitar.
The Tuareg are part of the Amazigh, each language is its own. We speak Amazigh and they speak the Tamasheq language. The northern half of Africa are all Amazigh, my friend, but on our television channels we do not watch it.
A little over a year ago or so I stumbled on the videos from the previous KEXP performance and I was amazed. I looked them up and they just happened to be performing close to my house a few weeks later. Seeing them live did not disappoint.
This is incredible. Really love these guys. The band is killing it with great originality and passion. Would love to see what this would be like with a Tele. When he goes to the bridge pickup, the Strat just falls over and sounds weak. You can see him turn every knob up to try and get the level back up and then has to bend over to turn up the pedal. If it was a Tele, it would be like unleashing a caged pit bull.
I did notice him bending over to adjust the pedal after he turned it on and noticed it wasn’t enough. BUT to counter your tele argument, the bridge pickup was used the entire time and it sounded great when it was clean. So maybe he just needs an extra boost pedal or adjust his fuzz(?) pedal to give it a lil more oomph than normal
That last segment which is not on the original song (starts around 6:30) is a nice reference to to Bombino's song called "Iyat Ninhay / Jaguar" (around 4:35 on the song)! both great songs made by great musicians
Saw the Thing performance from up close after they did this "in-studio" on site, and watching Mdou and his band work from a few feet away was a joy I will remember for as long as I remember stuff. See them up close for a below-average ticket price while you can!
This drummer is crazy! Absolutely incredible musicianship from all of them
Agree 100% Amazing
touareg not amazigh

The way he transitions from shuffle to straight forward drumming (the drummer) and stays perfectly on beat for the whole tune is godlike.
You can almost feel Jimi Hendrix smiling from the heavens as he savors the groove.
Dude I thought exactly the same when I saw them live
Lefties rule!
I saw Jimi in 1968, and he was the first person I thought of after seeing this video....all superbly talented musicians

just watched it and bought the tickets...
Today I learned that Mdou Moctar is the singers name. I thought that was a band name.

Watched this guy solo for 20 minutes straight. Best guitarist I’ve seen, probably
Mansur brown is good too
yesss
The african hendrix. Not much to say, one of the best guitarists alive rn
This has a way faster tempo than the album, I was not prepared!
They also play Tala Tannam faster and I love that too. Both versions are great
Anna too.
always be prepared for the unexpected ;)

Getting to experience the great things people make together is what keeps me going, too
Post Colonial AFRICA rise up! 📿🙏🙏📿🙏📿🙏🙏📿
This is what I call a tight band. I wish only success for them. Thanks for the great music!
Gentleman, you are making a mark in history.
Jimi reborn in Africa! where he belonged! the circle is completing, not fully but about to! ❤❤❤❤
Are you serious right now!! That sounds amazing and refreshing. Guys bring the noise.
Sounds like guitar center
They opened for tame impala a couple years back and it was amazing
Fuck yeah
@@cody3335 Post a video of you doing better. If not, you have to go pick up trash on the side of the road in Ukraine.
@@RobRamirez456I love tame impala but they would have put me to sleep after these guys 😂
I can’t stop watching this vid. He is the reincarnation of Hendrix

I’ve never seen anyone play guitar like that before! It’s incredible and playful at the same time.
Saw these guys last night in Indy! I was blown away…..and I am 70 years old….saw all the biggies back in the late 60’s early 70’s.

Holy shit. I've listened to this album on Spotify but seeing him play and at that tempo blew my mind.
They are all top shelf but that drummer ...I have no words. Wild maybe?

These guys jam so hard. Outstanding.
Found this on TH-cam. Can’t go back to classic rock.
the drummer hits diffrent, game on fire
Right?!?! I just watched this video five times in a row trying to figure out how the drummer makes it all work.
The change at 6:30 is out of this world! Great musicians.

Jimi of the deserts!

My 1st time listening to mdou moctar...cant find suitable word to describe this..🤘🤘🤘🤘
After this session Mdou slid right into my #1 favorite living guitar player right above Marc Ribot. 🤘🏼
More folks need to put Marc Ribot near the top of their lists.
They're playin' together in d'Addario extended play in 2022.
Seeable on You Tube.
Gives me so much first Deep Purple but in a refreshing and genuine way...and boy the drummer is madness!
Настояшие музыканты))
Goosebumps. This band kills it every time.
Afrique Victime indeed. I pray for your safety my friend.
The guitar tapping stuff was on another level. Amazing guitar player.
African version of a Highway Star by Deep Purple. Classy and brilliant.
L'homme noir ne serait pas rentré dans l'histoire ? Mon cul oui ! Des génies artistiques !
One of the best guitarist in the world 🎉❤️❤️👌👌
Nice to hear something genuinely exciting
i appreciate the bass player wearing vans
He’s American
Guitar god. We’re not worthy!

Gracias y felicitaciones por tan hermosa música. Mdou sigue así tu expresividad con la guitarra llega directo al corazón
Heard Mdou 3 days ago, been listening to him non-stop since... turns out he's playing in Brixton LDN tonight... perfect timing
Man, I heard much talking about him but wasnt expecting it to be so good. Feels like a mix of early Santana with Hank Marvin in a modern Hendrix way.
Souleymane went off!! Fantastic performance all around.
Questo tipo di rock purtroppo è scomparso in Europa e in America. Mi fa piacere che il rock rinasca dall'Africa!
Unimaginably great!!

Everyone talking about the lead guitar and drummer ... I'm more impressed by rhythm guitarist, strumming that fast is very hard to do.
They have had lot of routine gigs so it sharpens the technique. And loosens your wrist. Great comping!
