They say hardships brings out the talents in people. These Touaregs have endured much political oppression and social hardship on top of their harsh desert environment. No wonder they’re so talented. Rock on mates
To the other replies: talent is brought on by hard work and determination, which in some cases the drive to put in the work comes from passion, or having something to express that you yet can't. I think the sentiment of the original post stands true, though I don't know much of the political state of these people.

look for a band called "Tinariwen", this style is common in Berber regions of Africa, (southern Morocco, southern Algeria, Mauritania, Mali...) check out Tichumaren aka Desert Blues, Tuareg music and also Gnawa music since they use an instrument called (Gimbri) that influences this style.
What I later realised when I got to know this musician: it is like the circle of time has reached its starting point again. The blues came from slaves from West Africa to America, there it inspired rythm and blues into rock, fuelled a talent like Hendrix... who in turn again influenced this musician in Niger. I like it a lot, already put him on "follow" on Spotify . It deserves a bigger public, very grooooovy guitar music! It is a really unique style of playing, it is like he treats the guitar both as a percussion instrument and a harp. Those flowing tones almost make the guitar "sing".

@@nicholasshackleferd2546 Um I'm pretty sure tuareqs don't give a fuck and if you're a performer, agents will make shit happen.
Nicholas Shackleferd Mdou Moctar has been on tour in the US most of the last 12 months. I’ve seen him twice in Milwaukee in the last year and a half and he is coming back in April (to Madison). Do a web search for “Mdou Moctar Milwaukee Taper” to get my two artist-approved recordings.
I don't know how many times I have said "Thank you" to KEXP over the years for bringing us all such fantastic music but after hearing this I have to say it again - Thank you. That was just truly wonderful.
Agreed its amazing 💖
What I really like about some of these bands is that they prove that there are no rules to sound brilliant. And they do sound brilliant.
6:18 - that tempo change is freaking fantastic. You guys are awesome
Yes! In the end the speed has at least doubled.
We are supporter of this GENUINE rock from the desert.
the drummer is fantastic. they all are. but i’d like to give special props to the drummer
Much love from Greece to our desert brothers and sisters! It is good to know we play music in a similar way!!! Love to brothers and sisters worldwide, beyond nationalities.
Thank you for your kind words form North Africa, Morocco. Greece is part of our region, the Mediterranean pond and we share a lot in common more than the USA and western neocolonialist media want to share for their own evil global hegemony agenda that benefits from war war clash of nations
I could spend the rest of the night reading the comments sections here. And OH GOD! This music heals my heart and soul 💕
The notes sound like they’re from an older time, being played in new ways. This is a new frontier of sound for me! Thank you
racists when ethiopia:
Guitarist: Clean, Fast, and Tasteful. Coolest thing I've heard today
That left handed guitarist...and the drummer...the other two too, pure joy,the right reason to play music
Greetings from Brazil. Listening to this song, I no longer need to fly 28,000 km to feel the absence of earthly gravity.
How did I miss these musicians? I was commenting on another YT channel about Jimmy Page and a random comment was sent to me with two words "Mdou Moctar"
Initially I thought to myself "Did I offend someone in here?"
A quick search and this video emerged - superb🙂
Translations of lyrics into English:
"Love is sweet but take care It's difficult to maintain It demands much respect and lots of patience
There is a false love and it is always accompanied by a lie and it will end in treason There is a true love and it is always accompanied with respect and pity"
Wonderful.
It could be also called: " I lost my Pick in the Desert" ;)
Love and Respect
LOL
Hilarious!
We have camels to pick then up.
When they arent digging for the Ark of the Covenant they make some pretty good jams.
🤣🤣🤣
What I deeply wish you is that your talent and authenticity not to be destroyed by western "musical industry". Stay true, guys.
The fact he's from literally the poorest country in the world (Niger) makes this all the more impressive, truly inspiring
From your point of view yes but we're actually rich
Yes Abdul. Because you have all those Bedouin guitar players !
@@bubamaranovichok4901 he's Tuareg, or Berber. Bedouins are from further East
@@MrDoesntcare To be fair, Bedouins go as far as Mauritania. But yeah, Tuaregs are Berber and Bedouins Arab.
Rich / poor who cares. Money means nothing
I’ve never seen someone playing guitar 🎸 like that before, plus the drummer is legend 🌷
rory galegher play like this and more
Finally something so refreshing so pure and finally something that has to do with guitar .....all Is not lost..there is still hope...rock on cheers \m/
Hell yeah!!!!
EXACTLY
Art of perfection. Thank you youtube and special thanks to the person who's playing the music. Love from India
He is the Moctar for this kind of music. Moctar means chosen in Arabic.
But he is not arab he is Tuareg
@@seyfoag2346 Yes. But his name is Moctar, MOKHTAR, CHOSEN IN ARABIC.

The rhythm guitar player has got the groove!
Artist Tom dude yes!
Oh my goodness... this is so beautiful. I love the groove the drummer plays with, and that lead guitar is so head-spinning. Everything about this band is phenomenal! Cheers!
Right
Its so inspiring how the Sahel and other regions of north africa have become a genuine core of blues rock these past 10 years, i love keeping up and seeing it grow in popularity
This guy definitely rocks the casbah
Lol
Was gonna make the same comment
Shareef don' like him
Saurabh Saralaya : lmao!!!! 😂
lmao
Sound Guy: Sorry, Mdou we don't have a pop filter for the mic
Mdou: No worries, got myself covered
The most underrated comment hands down!!
🎱
Exactly what I wanted to comment ..you beat me to it..."covered" is superlative !
LOL I took a while to figure it out :) that was funny!
Nice pun

Enjoyed this. I appreciate how the music comes from Africa, to America then back to Africa. Perfect blend of sounds
Don’t think it’s from any of those places LOL

This artist comes from Nigeria, which is located in west africa. He plays in America at the KEXP Studio and his performance is broadcasted in Africa and around the globe.
So OP is on Point! Crazy how that goes

I LOOOVED IT!!!! Such a cool swing and the guitar... THE GUITAR!!!!!! Cheers from Brazil ❤
Viva África!!!! Que som maravilhoso! PQP!!!!
As a Fender man, I support this. Hopefully, he will tour America, ins'allah. I love how hard used their instruments are. That speaks of many hours of guitar, eat, sleep, repeat. Amazing performance!
its been awhile since i could listen to a 10 minute song all the way through without any hint of boredom, thanks !
Well. Took DID just drop a new album just a few months ago.
Relatable
True true
That index finger style creates such a sweet tone and lends itself to some unique phrasing. So fast with it, too. That took a long long time to develop. Respect. This is beautiful.
I wish he had taken another couple minutes getting tuned. He's so close.
@@bmwrules1464 He sounds tuned to me
I am sure he does sound tuned to a lot of people. Thankfully, he is playing lead most of the time.
This KEXP version to me has always been my favorite and just sounds so incredible.
oh man. this is one thing i love about the internet. getting to find out and listen to a talented musician from even the most remote place in the world and getting to gleen from them
Que maravilla , gracias hermano por demostrar que en el fondo no somos tan distintos, solo cambian los colores, las formas, los lugares, viva la música y su lenguaje universal que nos une.
Amazing guitarist! Such unique & fresh sound and technique! That picking index finger is lightning! And the African heritage sound is so refreshingly new to the stratocaster & rock! 🎸🔥 Thanks TH-cam!
Good god, I don’t have words for how amazing this is.
I think the word you’re looking for is amazing
Michael Gibson oh you have hit a jackpot.. search Tinariwen and other bands if you haven’t heard of this genre. ✌️
I just had one of the most music trip in years. Thanks algorithm
..we dont know what they are singing but the beauty of the music rythm lead the way to enjoy..
@Norm Macdonald Show thank..😁in these times;we need these tunes to chilled us up..🙏
What a new frontier of sound . Bravo job . Traditionally rooted yet infused with modern age. Big kudos to drummer as well . Big up from India ❤️
Man I found this like a week ago and it’s become a part of my morning ritual along with a cuppa tea n spliff. Mdo Moctar is a absolute geeza
I find this band that makes wonderful music, and they have the gall to have a concert a ways away from where I live? Too good to be true! Can't wait to see these folks in Portland.
i was always afraid to play freestyle solos because i'd play this kind of music and i thought people would think "what is he even playing that doesn't make any sense".... but Mdou Moctar made it soud so beautiful, it makes me believe in myself again. : )
He makes it make sense.ordered chaos
Broke all my fingers playing air guitar while listening to this. It was worth it.

Mdou Moctar Band is soooooo freacking Underrated, those solos, the drummer, they are just amazing 😍😍
I love how they keep to their cultural roots, and cultural melodies. No shame from these guys.
Why wouldn't they? What a strange compliment. You were afraid they might bow to record company pressure and become a boy band instead? This is me rolling my eyes and making the wanking motion.
Why wouldn’t they? Western way of thinking, not everything is rock and roll, McDonald’s and army.
@@alanramirez8506 If you ain't got Western way of thinking then you ain't got shit. Sad but true and everything IS rock and roll. The guy can play but he can't sing.
We call it pride not shame at all
@@jereuter01 Ha, if singing is your deal-breaker then 50% of rock acts must be scratched off your list
Absloutly amazing shit right there! The world has sooo much to learn of the African Continent.. ❤
Loved the story of how he got the left-handed Fender 'It crossed many African countries to end up in my hands' Amazing how he applies Tuareg musical techniques and scales to Western rock.
What kind of sorcery is this!? Goosebumps all the way.
Never heard amazing music like this dessert blues .like it much

Was lucky enough to see Mdou open for Tame Impala a month ago. Liked him so much I made plans to see him when he comes to DC later this summer. Super excited. His performances are Mind Blowing!
I see that they were at Black Cat on Sept. 6; I did not know about them yet, but I will not miss their Baltimore show this March.
That is what is lacking in most spineless western music industry today: AUTHENTICITY!!!!
This is so amazing. Hope thet break all barriers and come to Brazil in a tour! New Hendrix! AMAZING
