SF6 Season 2 E.Honda Kara Cancel Option Select

    I highly recommend following along with the notes below, as well as pausing and looking at the frame data/inputs during sequences.
    00:00 - The Kara Cancel
    E.Honda's overhead (3HK) can be canceled into specials and supers during the startup of the move. This is called a kara cancel. Specials that are kara canceled from overhead begin their startup on frame 15 minus 1 frame, and supers begin on frame 15. The buffer window to kara cancel is between frames 9-15. The important ones to learn are kara command grab and kara buttslam.
    01:40 - Kara Cancel during a Super Freeze
    When the kara buffer window lands over the opponent's startup, it can beat reversal supers. During the screen freeze, you can input a super and hold the button until the freeze ends and it will come out during the kara buffer window. Ideally, you need to be between +9 and +14 so that you have at least 1 frame of the kara buffer window open to super. In these examples, I show that the +16 and +7 framekills do not cancel into super after Ken's level 1, while the +14 and +9 framekills cancel.
    03:38 - The Option Select
    If you do a kara cancel special during this same period of time, the special will come out. However, if your opponent does wake up super, your special will be eaten by the screen freeze and you can input a super to counter your opponent's super instead. This is known as an option select - countering two or more of your opponent's options with the same series of inputs. For example, kara cancel oicho throw will beat both a blocking opponent and wake up super.
    05:37 - Double Kara Cancel on Frame 16
    If you try to kara OS when you are +15, a fascinating interaction occurs. When I told you that kara canceled moves activate on frame 15, I was lying to you. They can also come out on 16, but only under a very specific set of conditions. The kara window is expanded to frame 16 when you first kara cancel into a regular special (not OD) between frames 9-15, THEN kara cancel the special move on its first active frame into any super. A double kara cancel! You can observe this phenomenon from the slow motion replays, with evidence from the super coming out on frame 16 instead of frame 15. Notice also that if you do not kara cancel 3HK into a special off the +15 framekill, you are unable to reversal super their wakeup super as the 16th frame is inactive. I hope you're as mesmerized as I am.
    07:49 - Application of Kara OS
    I've demonstrated some situations where kara OS is useful, but here is every situation I could see myself using it:
    Any headbutt in the corner - 5MP framekill on the ground or throw after lift (+14 to +15)
    Any buttslam - 5LK framekill into +9, drive rush 3HK (equivalent to +12), or manually timed 3HK (+9 to +15)
    Any lift into drive rush 5MP 3HK buff (+14 to +10)
    Any grounded level 1 or 2 super in the corner (+15 to +13)
    I think 98% of the time the special move you should kara into is either oicho throw or buttslam. These will beat wakeup parry/block/super and wakeup jump/super respectively. Kara clap or kara OD sumo walk may also work as hard callouts. These inputs are difficult but they will come with time and practice.
    09:51 - Projectile Supers and Drive Reversal
    E.Honda's level 1 is not projectile invincible, so it will not beat projectile supers. Instead, use level 2 or level 3. Kara buttslam will beat drive reversal if spaced from the opponent. Therefore, this is an OS you can use if you are outside of kara command grab range.
    11:00 - Kara Window and Super Startup Comparison
    For slow supers, your kara window needs to be later in your opponent's wakeup (less plus after framekill). For fast supers, your kara window needs to be earlier in your opponent's wakeup (more plus after framekill). Any overhead at +9 will beat 7 frame reversal supers and slower, but 5 or 6 frame supers will win because frame 15 of the kara window has been reached. Level 2 will work for almost every reversal super, and if it does not, you will be able to OD buttslam out of the super. You have plenty of time to charge level 2 during the super freeze.
    14:22 - Command Grab Supers and Gief Level 2
    You cannot kara OS out of command grab supers. You can buffer overhead during the freeze of Gief level 2 and then kara the super in real time. Sometimes it's about sending a message.
    So what's the point of this tech?
    Kara cancel option select is an incredible tool to have in Honda's kit. This OS is an excellent layer two or layer three option once your opponent respects meaty options. Mixing the kara OS with a meaty kara command grab or buttslam is venomous, as it's difficult to tell which option the Honda player is going for. It's extremely versatile and relevant to almost every oki situation Honda has.

    Man please tell me how to kara cancel into headbutt! I just can’t figure it out.

      Kara cancel headbutt takes a lot of practice. The trick is to slide from from back to down forward on your way to forward. Plink a punch button as soon as possible after the heavy kick. Use my inputs as a reference if you need too.

      Is this something that’s easier done on leverless? Because I’m doing it on stick and it’s seems damn near impossible

      @@jaylenthomas6960 I would imagine this is easiest on leverless. And currently I only know how to play on leverless; however, the few times I've tried this on stick I've been able to pull it off while taking all my concentration. The hardest part is probably the down forward input, which seems like a nightmare to hit especially on the P2 side.

      @@j_harms bro you’re an inspiration I can do damn near ever Kara cancel you’ve shown here except for head butt and Level 2 I’m working on it honestly but I don’t think even if I do get this I’ll be able to do it consistently. Shit I can barely do level 2 raw consistently without it giving me oicho throw.
