@@KevinTalbotTV tbf I nearly done the same to my K4S but decided to get a conversion cable. Now I’ve just gone for proper IC5 batteries as I had the same disconnecting issues with the crappy dean’s connectors on my old battery.

Yeah, its a self sustaining fire, the chemical reaction of the lithium with the air will result in the lipos re igniting and burning until all of the lithium is used up, that's what makes a lithium fire so dangerous as once it starts its extremity difficult to stop it no matter what you do, basically it will just run its course until there is no material left to burn. Kevin did exactly the right thing, get it outside !!.

I know im really late for this but i just saw one of your other videos and noticed how some people thought that the fire was staged, i seriously don't understand how they think this was staged, i have been following you for quite a while and you are a very honest person, you even showed footoage of what happened in real time, i would just like to thank you for being a man of word and for making great content for hundreds of thousands of people all over the world kev, and for making thumbnails of things that actually happen in your videos unlike some youtubers who just care about the clickbait and views, i recently saw your engine fitting video for your monster truck and im absolutely excited to see that bad boy running! I have a feeling this will catch the attention of Castle Creations. That needs to be addressed by them personally. They are very helpful. A guys at work spends hours on the phone discussing his builds and various issues. They always help, and replace anything that is their fault, for free. You have a big platform here. Please be in contact with them and let us see how that goes. I own a lot of their stuff. I am nervous now.
I'm a big fan of Castle Creations as well, particularly their ESC's. Though there is always potential that a bad ESC got into the mix. That said, I personally think this was caused by a short or problems outside of the ESC. Someone suggested that the motor caused the fire, IDK. I suspect that something shifted when he picked up the RC from the tail end and shorted out something. Things were awfully tight in that chassis. JMHO
Same thing happened to me and it’s been almost a year since they received it and have not got back with me.
Maybe getting parts from Scorched Parts isn’t a good idea 🤣

Wow! First I’m glad you and your shop were ok! I’ve seen guys panic when a fire starts and it can be disastrous! 2nd it shows us all how important it is to keep the batteries stored properly and to do work in a proper and safe spot just in case. I usually do my upgrades at our spare table in the house!! No more!! So freaking scary! Fire and nothing to mess w in a home! Lastly I look forward to seeing the new “Scorcher” soon. Well, that's what happens when you use 8s with unlimited amps on a 6s motor, the motor shorts and kills the esc and batteries.

The motor could have been damaged internaly and shorted the esc once it got to much power
These XLX2 ESCs are blowing up everywhere. There is already a class-action suit in the US. I would be surprised if it wasn’t the ESC.
@@mesodan most definitely not the esc, unless his was defective. I have an xlx2 in a limitless that has gone 152mph
The new castles are blowing up, the battery hookup on the ESC circuit board shorts out and causes the esc to blow up, eventually getting the battery as well if you don't unhook them right away
@@masonkaye5 the new castle mamba x series escs are extremely unpredictable, mine did the exact same thing and they didn't warranty it for me, I nearly lost my house and my hand in the process
Lipos can also be damaged internally from soldering connectors too hot or too long. The pack can randomly burst into flames.

I lost my brand new mamba monster 8s . Flew through a puddle on my xmaxx the esc got a little and it burst into flames
@@everythingrc2535 haven't been around cars long enough but totally seen one of their Talon 120s burn a 1.5k heli to nothing haha.
Putting things to the right context. Usually castle esc are used in very high power builds. Those are a much higher risk of getting this kind of problems. Sure, there might be QC issues, but at least I can't judge castle with all the things said in internet.
Inspiration for sure. Been watching a lot of ur videos since I started rc about 2-3 months ago. Since, Iv learned a ton. Just got my 6s rustler put together, trying to go for Atleast 100mph since it’s only my first build. And I mean, learning every step of the way. Love the vids! Keep em comming. Hope castle don’t let me down, put a lot of money (in my eyes) into my rustler 4x4, can’t afford a restart. Lol fire extinguisher is always at hand!
Maybe you could do a second one with a longer wheel base, higher rpm motor, tons of power etc

Never have I’ve seen LiPo’s glow red hot like that! Something in your setup had to have shorted out the batteries. Had to be the ESC. Game Over!

My thoughts on the cascade after thinking about how this went down. Ive had this failure on ebikes running bleeding edge motors.
You were revving it in air, literally the worst thing possible for such a hot system on max voltage and a motor with insanely low resistance and high inductance. Dont do that with "insane" systems, its risky. Looks like the first fire was a capacitor explosion.
An inductive spike couldn't be shunted by the battery since it was still freshly charged, and since you were running 8s it popped the caps after a hard rev. No overhead for voltage spikes when running 8s. Caps turned into molten metal and shorted inside the esc, battery catches 20 seconds later since the esc is now shorted.
Next time run 6s and don't be revving in air like that.

What are the fastest esc’s for high amp use castle period . They gave us a god esc with basically no limits so you need to know what you are doing. I have sold and installed over 20 of them since they came out and never one failure. Good plugs something in the 8mm range at least. And quality battery’s. No free revving and most importantly moderate gearing until you monitor the data logs and make sure it’s working in its proper range and if so gear up , or change timing (one at a time here ) run it and check again. And so forth

@@1521joe they are great esc’s but how can it be better at the price point? I have owned several and they still don’t put pace a 8s mm in amp delivery. I don’t see any mgm cars going over 160 and there are reasons. One if they break they take forever to get repaired and shipped back to you. 2 it’s a old gui on there programming and it’s not native to most as they are designed to run anything cars planes Heli’s etc. 3 waterproofing is a option if you want it and so are a few other things that castle gives you without extra cost. And not trying to start anything but have you owned any mgm products? At this point in the game flier esc is a better option than mgm. Only esc that they have that will stomp on castle is there 800 amp one but at like 10 times the price. There is simply no other 8s esc on the market that comes close period.

I almost lost my Maxx a month ago or so at the skatepark. I heard a pop but didn't see anything until I saw smoke coming from the Maxx during a jump. When it hit the ground I saw a lot of smoke. I immediately freaked out I wasn't sure what to do. So much smoke. Lipo fires are very dangerous and I wasnt sure if I should go after the Maxx but I did anyway. Luckily it only smoked for about 5 minutes. I never saw flames at all. Now I keep a fire extinguisher with me!! 🧯🧯🧯🧯🧯🧯

kev, the noise you made in the video for the ESC sounds like one of the capacitors might have shorted or blew up
Funny story, when I was 14 I got a new ESC for my rustler and I put everything together and was so excited to drive it! But I was so excited that I forgot to check over everything and I had an Allen key laying across the exposed capacitors on the side of the ESC. It was an Identical sound and lemme tell ya.... quite a lesson learned haha.

Sorry that happened Kev. Glad your ok. Sometimes when Lipos have been exposed to high pressure landings, they can desolder/delaminate on the inside. When introduced to high draw current again could cause a shortage, I’ve had this happen to me with a couple 4s packs, no fire although, just a complete shutdown

So I watched that like five times over, and came to the conclusion that it wasn’t a spark. I think the spark was a green light, meaning “okay I’m ready to go”

Chinese manufacturing does not equal bad quality. Sure, knock-off products are usually bad and have given China a bad name, but that’s not the case for well-known brands. Apple for example makes their devices in China. And last I heard, iPhones and iPads are pretty popular.

Hey Kev! I think i know what happened with the ESC. Castle claims on their Website that the XLX 2 and Monster X 8s are made for a maximum voltage of 33,6V (4,2V/cell) and the ESC definitely will be damaged if you apply more Voltage, for example if you use LiHV batteries . So when you used your LiHV graphene batteries in the car you have damaged the ESC which then blowed up the batteries, which are nearly impossible to extinguish. Next time when a lithium battery catches fire, you should try to separate the battery and put it in a fire prove container with water where it can burn out.
I would recommend you using normal Lipo batteries with 4,2V/cell next time, then everything should work perfectly.

looks like the ESC had a bad capacitor. When you hit the throttle you burnt it
no it would be a weak transistor that when enough current went through it, it would fail and dead short the battery. if it was a capacitor all you would get is a pop and some steam

Well known for it I'm afraid, they've well earned the name castle cremations, every one I've seen has burnt the plane, helicopter, boat or car down. I was surprised when you said you were putting one in. Ive had two myself and both burnt the planes down. My condolences.

@@gazking08mx Ya, I think comes down to the product line of each type of esc or item they have produced. they must be different runs, ya know with different quality parts used or less or no QC checks being done. Most of CC's stuff is now made completely out of the USA. I have the 6s mamba X and no issues yet except the fan runs off n on, but only run 4s in my rock racer so maybe just lucky. the recent Meltdowns are a Major factor in any future purchases thru them tho...
Go to rcgroups or put Castle cremations in Google, I did actually mean their escs in general and I should have made that clear.

Ha "Castle Cremations", that sucks plus castle's are $$$. Currently running a handful of hobbywing esc's on fpv drones/planes.. have had many esc failures but never a HW! Will order a max 6 if stock Xmaxx esc fails.
@@brokenmember1658 I'm afraid to try anything else now... Moved into the forest in CA, I bring a fire extinguisher everywhere I go. An esc failure like this could be really really bad . I don't do as much RC in the summer and try to stay out of the brush with all my toys :/
Hey Kev, you can easily fix the problem with the xt90's by spreading the 4 little connectors on the male side of the connector, it makes it a lot tighter, hope this helps.
