Simon Wright was not the problem, it was a mistake by Angus and Malcolm for becoming producers without previous experience, Simon came just at a bad time that the band simply stopped, it is very unfair to speak as if the fault was his, to me It seems there is not a song that has played badly, Rudd and Slade maybe are better but Simon is not a bad drummer either, not at all.
Jose Guillermo Quiroz hate all the flack Simon Wright gets, he was a damn good drummer, far better than Slade. He just came at a bad time when the young brothers took over everything, even the drum scores!

Watch Chris Slade play "let there be rock" live at Donington 91´. He plays 8´th notes in 15 minutes, at a tempo out of this world. Then you´ll all shut up in here. Music/drumming isn´t all about technic, but timing certainly is! - especially the drums.
Well he had a very solid tempo on the razor's edge tour, albeit a bit rushed and with no pocket or swung groove, the rock or bust tour the tempos were off and not steady and he played flourishes and shit that doesn't work with acdc the band swings and sounds locked and tight with phil

what i respect the most is he's doing this show for fun, probably has enough money to last him until the end of the world. The whole AC/DC crew are such humble and genuinely nice people. My favorite Angus quote: "If you play one of our songs and think it's too difficult, you're probably playing it wrong." My favorite Brian quote: "It doesn't bother me at all if you want to call our music 'soft rock', you can call it whatever you like, we will keep doing what we like best"
I grinned the whole time watching this.. he may not be Larnell Lewis but he embodied the joy of playing that got me into the drums in the first place back in the early 70's. The dude is rock solid! ..and THAT is EXACLTY what AC/DC needed from a drummer to be one of the TOP stadium rock bands of all time !
Chris is my favorite person who played in AC/DC. Stand up guy for sure and amazing drummer. I have to give the nod to Rudd but just barely. Slade rocks every time he picks up the sticks.
To those not impressed or to those mindlessly defending him like he was on the top of his game: AGE NATURALLY DESTROYS SKILLS. It's just a sad fact of life. When people get older, they lose much of what made them great when they were younger. Unless you tirelessly keep at it like Vinnie Colaiuta every day (which most professionals simply don't do when they get older), your technique will suffer. The musicality will still be there, but actually doing what you want to do becomes much, much harder. There will come a time when Colaiuta won't sound very good either. He'll know what he wants to play, but won't be able to do it properly. These legends may not have the skills to compete with young musicians today, but they sure had those skills back in their day.
You are 100% right with your oservation if your talking about players who are using the same principals, drum set ups and regular drum sticks. But there is always something more - more places you can look at to keep fresh and efficient in drumming. Chris Slade is a very influential drummer in my book, but not as much as Steve Gadd or Stewart Copleand. First time I heard Chris Slade is on Manfred Mann's "Nightingales and Bombers" - about 40 years ago. I was very impressedwith his clean drum sound and playing on that album. His ACDC years where quite good too! Check out my TH-cam channel - I am constantly working on my set ups and techniques - depending on task and mood of the music. I mean, just watch his performance in the Live at Donington DVD; it was outstanding. People have a lot of respect for him, and that is what makes him great.

No musician is inspired to play their best 24/7. Much harder for a drumner or bass player, than other instruments. With a harmonic instrument, a guitar for instance, you always have a no brainer standard to fall back on.

I play drums for fun and can hammer out 4/4 all day and that's cool with me. This guy played for a national act that sells out arenas. He has talent, alot of it otherwise he would not have played for AC/DC.

Phil Rudd had a certain perfect chemistry with Malcolm, Angus, and the other guys in AC/DC and as far as I'm concerned they never should have replaced Phil Rudd because - well, Phil Rudd can't be replaced if you expect AC/DC to be, well, AC/DC. I don't know what the other AC/DC guys were thinking when they cut first Phil out in 1983 or whenever it was, but the band's sound was never really the same after.

Thee Rockn'est Band of All Time with Chris Slade, a Drummer to match... let his drumming, his resume, the Rock'n Heavy Duty look on his face, his speed and strength sweating from every pore... and I think maybe most of all that AC/DC chose Chris Slade to be their Drummer, to be a member of their, the AC/DC Family, chose Chris to be a Brother... if the Band digs him (and so too a long list of the who's-who of other bands, artists, & more, etc), I'm certainly not going to critique their choice, except to say I believe Chris Slade was born for this gig with AC/DC, really not much else to say... and of course if I dig him...
...just look at 'im... Look! Listen! He just Rocks the Rockn' Rockn'est for All Eternity... if He, Chris, died on stage you wouldn't know it... even till Death, He'd not part... He'd just keep on Drumming... He'd just keep on Rockn'!!!

Phil Rudd had a certain perfect chemistry with Malcolm, Angus, and the other guys in AC/DC and as far as I'm concerned they never should have replaced Phil Rudd because - well, Phil Rudd can't be replaced if you expect AC/DC to be, well, AC/DC. I don't know what the other AC/DC guys were thinking when they cut first Phil out in 1983 or whenever it was, but the band's sound was never really the same after.
I know he's a good drummer. Seems a bit rusty here though. Or just rushed and uncomfortable. Not the greatest situation for a demo.
