The biggest take away from me is that in a way, we're all The Thing, needing our own human torch to help burn away our insecurities and help get us over ourselves.
Ben is one of my favorite characters too. I'll never get tired of your deep dives into his stories. I always found it interesting - Reed could cure him in a heartbeat, but the real problem was making it so Ben could transform just like everyone else on the team. He LIKED his powers, he wanted what Johnny had, for example.

And it's been amazing how he's been relevant to me at different times in my life for different reasons. He just has so much humanity to him and represents to me how powerful super hero stories can be. There are too many great Thing stories for me to count, especially if you read up some of his great Marvel Two in One shenanigans, but if I had to pick one, It would be FF40. If you've never read that one, look it up. It's not exactly Thing-Centric, but it's one of the most impactful moments of his.

as a kid watching the F4 movies I thought the Thing was just this big ugly rock guy, but having grown up the stories of Ben wanting to be seen as a regular person and the emotional turmoil that creates really resonates with me and he’s quickly become one of my favourite marvel characters
There was a story where it came out that most of the pranks that the Yancy Street Gang pulled on Ben were actually perpetrated by Johnny. He accidentally left the receipt in the box with one of the exploding pies, and Ben was going to track down the store and make the owner tell him who bought the gag gift. Johnny went into full panic mode thinking Ben might kill the store owner, and might kill him when he found out it was Johnny. In the course of following Ben, he witnessed Ben stopping, and deciding to go back to the Baxter Building, because on a certain level it actually made him happy that the guys from his old neighborhood weren't scared to take the piss out of him and keep him humble. Which of course destroyed Johnny even more than Ben trying to punch him into next week would have. So, to this day, Johnny still occasionally sends Ben gag gifts under the guise of the Yancy Street Gang, because he doesn't want Ben to think his old neighborhood has forgotten him or stopped thinking of him as just one of the guys.
Johnny is the best wingman Ben may find him aggravating most of the time, but he still cares about him immensely and I’m so glad Ben was able to get his greatest week
I always get hung up on the Fantastic Four. On the one hand they seem really wholesome and inspirational, and on the other they let their youngest child have play dates with the worst mass murderer in human history. That is severely messed up.
Johnny is that one guy that when he's around, you only think of all the rude and annoying things he does, but the second he's gone you'll realize all he did for you
Too bad the cure is only temporary; I'd love to read another modern story where Ben has to choose between being the Thing or being permanently replaced on the Fantastic Four because he chose to be human.
