As an African I have learnt never to show my fellow Africans i have Money being around ppl who are poor makes you a target especially if you have money. Even just by telling them oh am from America oh am From Uk makes you a target they see you as a walking Bank. People who dont have be very careful around them.
It’s not only Africans, I live in USA in New York city I almost got killed by black Americans attacked me in my apartment took all my keys including my car keys asked me where I had parked my car took my wallet with all my IDS am telling you black race is like is cursed everywhere most especially here in America.

As a black South African man, i struggled when I went to Mozambique for a while. Language barrier and cultural differences were crazy. Africa too diverse with too many challenges.

I don't think ANY AA think coming to Africa is going to be easy!!! I think most are terrified! Even a seasoned traveler who speaks several languages and has planned for many years has a lot of trepidation when it comes to moving permanently. I don't know about Uganda, but I feel comfortable about Kenya and Tanzania. ❤❤❤ I will come to learn first.
Very interesting conversation. Westerners can relocate from Western country A to B without skipping a step because we're in the Matrix LOL😂. Take us anywhere else is like taking a fish out of water. And that's why we struggle and end up returning home to the West. I think the simplest way for a western to relocate to non-western country is with a remote job from a western country. This might seem like a defeatest attitude but it gets you where you want to be with the safety net to slowly invest or create/build.

That’s everywhere outside of the North America or Europe. It happens in the Caribbean too. The locals who have NOT travelled. They will EAT your money down. They come across caring, pretend to be working with you, but actually robbing you. I personally have experienced the exploitation. I do NOT even speak to the builder that built my home. I didn’t allow him to complete the job. He was begging me to take a loan to complete the house. Clearly, showing me that he cared about himself. Even the locals are taken advantaged off.

I believe there is a huge difference in being humble and being docile. Humbleness in my opinion, makes you approachable and easy to work with/for. It doesn't mean that you lack confidence or expertise. Running a business is very humbling. I know that people's lives not just my families life but these other people and their families depend on me. Just as me and my family depend on them. It's stressful, it's humbling, and gratifying.

OShay, why is it that you had to travel all the way to Africa to learn to put individualism aside and learn to be team/community oriented?
I didn't start to find success in Africa until I learned to NOT expect honesty or transparency, to supervise and follow up on everything. Marcus was also the first to mention to me the need for food with some flavor and an American Southern style fried chicken restaurant including the sides👀. He opened my eyes to filling the needs. Although I don't agree that a college degree is the magic ticket to success, especially in a developing country, leadership is not in the curriculum of most degree paths as Marcus pointed out, this is a Hall of Fame episode Great job guys. If you know any Black Americans with experience in AC and refrigeration they could lock up the game in the right location. Getting outside of Kampala exposes many other opportunities with much greater ease of movement.

Less than 3% of Black US income from entrepreneurship more than 95% of Black income in US from employment . Entrepreneurship benefits from strong families ,emotional, financial and ecosystem support . At least 70% of Black adults single . Before 1965 more than 80% of Black adults married .

@kenganda ODJ your next project must be to bring together resources for: 1. Market research 2. Immigration lawyers 3. Business Advisory services So that repats can make informed decisions about investing in Africa before leabing their jobs and blowing all their savings. It's too risky to try and do proper research in a month or two, without ptoper networks in your target country.
Glad to see you both still here after so many years. Have you ever directed your viewers towards International Banks which pay 8 to 10% or Ugandan Treasury Bonds, which pay 14 - 16% Interest? Rather than invest $100k into a risky business, why not earn 3m to 5m UGX a month in passive interest income with much less risk?

I was recruited to help create the Entrepreneur Program and taught it for ten years. I used a large part of my profits from my businesses to fund orphanages, agriculture and Micro-loan programs in East Africa for about 20 years. Now that I'm fully retired, I've been investing more in Fixed Deposits and Treasuries in the USA and Uganda because I make more money with far less risk and without the double taxation in the USA and Uganda. Passive income through paper assets have the benefits of time and compound interest. Universal, Whole and Return of Premium Life Insurances are also some of the ingredients that the wealthy use to building generational wealth.

IM Bank, Stanbic, and Housing Finance were still taking them last year, but I was told last week that the US Government was restricting regular US citizens from investing except through brokers who charge a fee.

Less than 2% of real estate development firms in America are black or Hispanic owned . Black people represent less than 5% of developers . Black US represent 14% of the population(approximately 45-50 million) and Hispanics represent 18% of the population(approximately 63-65million) . Only 2% of Architects in America are Black(2500 registered architects) .

You ARE wrong, but also RIGHT. African principles are human based first and foremost at the core. In essence we do not throw people onto the garbage heap because they do not perform. We recognise that there will be high performers, poor performers and every scale in between.So what do we do with this spread? We do not abandon the non-high performers because they cannot perform for the simple reason that we know we are not performing monkeys in a circus! But also we know that for example a society that values warriors will consider artists non-performers and vice versa. It is all a societal ego-based power and control tug of war. Western Economics which is based on survival of the fittest and the rest be damned to eternal servitude is fundamentally anti-African. So seeing as Africa has chosen to economically align itself with Western philosophy what you, our dear brothers, are facing is an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. You are in the chaos zone.

So that repats can make informed decisions about investing in Africa before leabing their jobs and blowing all their savings.
It's too risky to try and do proper research in a month or two, without ptoper networks in your target country.

I was recruited to help create the Entrepreneur Program and taught it for ten years. I used a large part of my profits from my businesses to fund orphanages, agriculture and Micro-loan programs in East Africa for about 20 years.
Now that I'm fully retired, I've been investing more in Fixed Deposits and Treasuries in the USA and Uganda because I make more money with far less risk and without the double taxation in the USA and Uganda. Passive income through paper assets have the benefits of time and compound interest. Universal, Whole and Return of Premium Life Insurances are also some of the ingredients that the wealthy use to building generational wealth.
@sarahnamazzi8855 Several banks like ABSA have stopped approving Uganda Treasury Purchase Applications from Americans. IM Bank, Stanbic, and Housing Finance were still taking them last year, but I was told last week that the US Government was restricting regular US citizens from investing except through brokers who charge a fee.

I have been to Uganda twice , once for 10 days and than for 2 months. Now I'm planning on moving there to live. My question is what is best , to buy an apartment or buy land and build a house?
no rent. Don't get into buying land or building its a waste of money. Live here for 3 years then if you want to buy do that.

You can't buy peace and peace flooded me while there , I rented a apartment in Lubowa for the two months I was last their and had all my furniture made in Uganda. Black people represent less than 5% of developers .
Black US represent 14% of the population(approximately 45-50 million) and Hispanics represent 18% of the population(approximately 63-65million) . Only 2% of Architects in America are Black(2500 registered architects) .
A humble person in america is looked at as weak, fake, has low self esteem. Americans dont appreciate the african humble. They like you to be out there and vubratnt and out going and have the "vibe "

You ARE wrong, but also RIGHT. African principles are human based first and foremost at the core. In essence we do not throw people onto the garbage heap because they do not perform. We recognise that there will be high performers, poor performers and every scale in between.So what do we do with this spread? We do not abandon the non-high performers because they cannot perform for the simple reason that we know we are not performing monkeys in a circus! But also we know that for example a society that values warriors will consider artists non-performers and vice versa. It is all a societal ego-based power and control tug of war. Western Economics which is based on survival of the fittest and the rest be damned to eternal servitude is fundamentally anti-African. So seeing as Africa has chosen to economically align itself with Western philosophy what you, our dear brothers, are facing is an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. You are in the chaos zone.
