One less Mini brake limiter in the Universe :-(
My '84 VW Golf had a ride height sensitive rear brake proportioning valve. It was actuated by a simple lever off one side of the trailing arm suspension. Theory was as the rear end of the car raised up under braking due to the forward momentum of the car, the rear brakes would get less and less hydraulic pressure to help reduce rear wheel lockups. Quite clever actually, for the era before anti-lock brakes appeared.

Sean, The younger generation of mini owners will get a lot of info from your videos if they take the time to watch.
Always wondered what the brake balance valve looked like inside now we know lol, Cheers Dave

Thanks Jeff, yeah it was not what I expected inside the bias valve so I'm glad I took it apart, literally lol

These parts don't like to give up there secrets to easily, could only have stopped functioning from the crud inside not physical damage. Looks like I may be changing one soon.cheers.

There was a fair amount of sludge inside it Ray plus its over 30 years old so always best to renew

Interesting to see the make up of the workings, was quite a bit of a state inside do you know if this was the original?

Hi James, yes this part was original and with it being 31 years old it was due to be replaced whether it needed it or not and after stripping it down I quickly discovered it was a good call to change it. The brakes on the car now are excellent however, I did replace the master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders as well as overhaul the front calipers so effectively it's an entire new system on the car . Thanks for watching, regards, Sean
