    Great video. Like, really well written and edited. I'm going to go back and take notes on this to learn for my own play. I really like how you used the progression of Leo's comeback on Luugi while explaining figuring out matchups. I can't wait to see what you post next

    • @ikan2192
      @ikan2192  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually wanted to mention this at the end of the video, but I figured it would be better to have people make the realization themselves. Everything's got a purpose, some are more intuitive than others - good eye!

  • @mrhokckey7544
    @mrhokckey7544 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I'd also like to add that, as helpful as it is to grind and lab and practice in different ways to improve in different areas, it's also super important to take breaks! In my experience, no matter what you're doing, playing too much eventually leads to burning yourself out. Giving smash a rest for a while and finding other things to enjoy lets you process everything you learned and just refresh your mental game and attitude. Inputs might be a little rusty at first but I've found myself solving matchups mid-set and making some of my best tournament runs after having not played any smash in the past week.
    That aside, great video! looking forward to future vids :]

    • @ikan2192
      @ikan2192  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I definitely agree to this and I'm SO glad you mentioned it. The first time I took a break was in Summer 2022 after I had just gotten ranked on the PGRv3 NA, and I was so scared about it since I was worried I would "fall behind" the competition. Little did I realize that the game is so mentally oriented that a clear mental game can be enough to win sets. Yes, the rust will sometimes get discouraging, but it's just a small part of a long improvement journey.
      I actually might make this a video reality, thank u for ur inspiration! :)

    The algorithm is apparently spreading the good word. I'm not even a competitor, more a spectator, but the technical insight you provide in this video is fascinating for both. Beyond that, it's brilliant to see you on TH-cam, I'd be certainly interested in also seeing your perspectives on different communities within the Smash scene, seeing as you have a breadth of travelling beneath your belt. Also, I am certain that match with Asimo is the foundation for some amazing content. Keep it up man, I dropped the sub, and am a big fan, both for your sportsmanship and handling of the sticks.

    this was such an interesting watch, always found it easier to adapt to certain characters but couldnt quite put my finger on why that was but this vid perfectly explained it
    fighting a gnw for example feels easier to me because you know what you should be expecting in most situations and how to play around his strongest options, so you can 'play the matchup' on autopilot and put your focus fully on player to player, while a character like wolf or young link has more versatility so taking your time to figure out the player to player aspect can take more energy because you have to keep more options in mind
    add a strong punish game char on the top of being versatile and it becomes extremely demanding to play against in bracket, think of rob/steve

    • @elitetweet
      @elitetweet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      adding to this this video also made me realize my mistakes when it comes to fighting characters who have crazy versatility (terry for example has been a problem mu of mine) and how i can simplify my gameplans against them

      Late hit, meaning the attack hits shield later, meaning less gap in between endlag of attack + first actionable frame. Really funny how it's THIS safe though :P

    You are a Ryu main. I am a Ryu main. I have question for you. I always use heavy jab instead of light jab. How important would you say it would be to mix up the jabs? Another question is that I rarely use nair. I would almost always go for bair instead. What are the pros and cons of using nair because I don’t really understand that move too well?

    • @ikan2192
      @ikan2192  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @Arrayonex! I think Light Jab is extremely important for Ryu's kit. It is very reliable to connect on opponents when buffered properly, ignores hurtbox shifting, and is able to catch preemptive Jumps/Rolls out of shield. Super valuable tool, but not the most safe on shield since you don't get to rapid mash it like you can with the tilts.
      Nair is a move that's really good to act second with. If the opponent mispaces an aerial or tilt, and you get the chance to jump in on them, you can whiff punish their move with your very safe move that leads into pretty much anything. Ryu's NAir is also very active, and can catch preemptive dashes/jumps depending on the height you use it. At kill %s, it leads into many kill setups depending on where it hits. Usually dash up tilts are the most reliable, but u can also do nair -> UAir1 DP, falling soft nair -> rising SH bair, and more.
      Maybe a 10 Ryu Tricks guide like Hooded made back in Smash 4 would be a fun content piece! Don't want to delve too quickly into character specific stuff just yet though. Thanks for your comment!
