      Me too !!!!
The shitbird that I sold it to was supposed to be a friend .
I sold it to him with the stipulation that if and when he was going to get rid of it - to offer it back to me before selling it or trading it off to anyone else .
Nope - traded it off to a non - authorized dealership .

Exact same color/paint scheme of the 1st Sporty I ever put my butt on. A 1972 XLCH and it got the full treatment from the aftermarket which resulted in an 11 second Sportster way back in 1978 which was pretty much a rarity in small town Texas then. I wish I had sitting in my barn today. Damn.

In my opinion, the iron Sportsters were about the best bikes Harley ever built! I’ve had 2 of them and am looking for another one. Beautiful Bike! Thanks for Sharing!!!

    • @kennyh5083
      @kennyh5083 ปีที่แล้ว

It all depends on what you want to use it for. I own iron heads and a XL1200 evo, and the iron heads are dirt trackers and leaving the pavement at high speed is a yee-haw moment, unlike a heavier, smoother, more powerful & reliable evo Sportster where a fast trip to an ER is prolly where it will getcha, cuz the evo Sportster was made for long distance road and highway cruising and that is where it out-shines the iron-heads by far! I prefer an iron head tho just cuz it looks an feels like a vintage scooter which it is an handles the rough country roads far better!!

Almost bought one just like this one used except it was black for $ 2500 and with about 2100 original miles on it and the day before I was to pick it up and pay the dude
My freaking furnace decided it was taking a permanent retirement on me in the dead of winter 2013 during the polar 🥶vortex part of it
needless to say the furnace became the #1priority and had to say buh bye to that sweet Harley 🥺

Very, very nice bike. In light of that, it begs the question - why not finish it up right and wire the starter to the proper button on the handlebar? That button under the seat does this wonderful bike a disservice.

1974, yup,This is true,... had a new 74 Sportster (as above), - (Kickstart only), same exact color and decals...Ran just great...usually took one to two kicks to get her going...
One evening,1974, ("ignorantly" at 19 years old, attempted out running a few City squad cars in our city park with it one night, ...the first Squad of the group of 4 that ended up looking for me afterwards - that first one chased me on that Sporty across a City park tennis court ( then through the wooded park area before getting back onto a side road from their, enough of that "stuff"), anyway, happened in my hometown about 30 some miles North of Milwaukee), I did survive all that ( barely got away!...) just didn't sleep well for the next two weeks, every knock on the door at home thought they caught up to me...don't recommend it to anyone!!...
Not soon after that, my oldest brother, ( out from Milwaukee), came out to visit family and talked Me into letting him take my bike out for a small spin...Knowing my brother well, I did not challenge his request...forgot to ask if he was licensed to do so,( found out later he was'nt)... he did not return for a while only to find out...
He drove it out of town, onto a County road and upon returning with it I noticed the engine a bit on the warm side...
He then proceeded to tell me he buried the needle on it, hardly missing a farm tractor...
I was not a happy camper with how he drove my Sportster but, just glad he made it back with no casualties, including himself...
Well, there's more to the story but, my main point is, that 1974 Sporster was one heck of a ride!!!

@@rudeawakening3833 God Bless you back ,Brother!..
Aug 1975, 19 year's old...was going to end it all ( by taking my Sportster into a brick wall), second shift, at a factory I was working at...
Little did I know that , this acquaintance I knew from High school days, witnessed Christ to me that very moment ( during the moment I was heading for the outside door to parking lot where my 74 Sporty was parked at)...was planning on starting my Harley up, taking it to the factory entrance, turning it around, and running it as fast as I could into the side of the building...
He didn't find out until 45 years later ( at a class reunion), that message of God's Love through Christ's reached my heart...it changed my life at the doorway...
A few years later, I interestingly got hired for The Sheriff's Department in our County as a Deputy...( just after working one month at our State Prison as a Correctional Officer )...
Was certified by the LESB and worked there for 5 years, ending my Law Enforcement career, working another 4 or so years at another agency ( as a Township Officer) before moving on from all of that...
Only shows that God really does have a sence of humor, went from a Club riding Biker ( out running cops to becoming one)!...
And "No"! One does not have to first be qualified as a Wildman to serve in the Law Enforcement field! Just my disclaimer, Blessings, stay safe Bro!

      I owned a 1974 and a 1975 .
I remember them being an -
      XLH -1000 . ( electric start only )
The XLCH -1000 model was “ kick “
      start only .
I was taken aback by this model - because the factory XLH had that FLH big battery , slid in up under the frame , like this one .
I was surprised to see the “ kicker “
