Well done and well said. Welcome to Oz. I was born here in 1949. Many things have changed in my 74 years. Trams came and went and then came again. Trains changed from steam to diesel and then electricity. Cars were small - we had a Morris Minor which could carry Mum, Dad, two grand mothers and two small kids. The kids did not have seats. The beach was free and still is. Sydney has grown from a small city with outlying villages to a HUGE city. It is still a great place. Mike in Oz

It’s all part of the work life balance. Weekend is for shopping for clothes if you work later. There’s plenty of time to get what you need. Everyone deserves time off. We only work to live we don’t live to work. I was so flabbergasted when I stayed at the MGM hotel in Las Vegas and wanted to swim in the pool, I had to pay to get in and for the beach towel use. It’s free here in Australia and part of the privilege of being a guest at the hotel.

I was going to say the same. However in Sydney we have extended shopping hours until 9:00pm on Thursdays. Also, KMart is open until 10:00pm most nights, same with Woolworths and Coles supermarkets. We have late night pharmacies too. All the opening hours for these businesses are easily found online. Hello,we in Australia work to live and not live to work,so with our 38 hour working week,if shops were open to long the they will need to start paying overtime and such,so that extra cost would go onto prices, with living in Northern Tassie,Coles and Woolworths are open from 7am to 10 pm,7 days a week and Kmart 24/7,plus with the 2 supermarkets there is you order online and get your groceries delivered to your door, plus so many people ordering clothes on line,it is a question if it is viable for a lot of stores to be open later.

Sydney centered comments where the climate is not as good as she sees it. People from the southern regions think is too humid. Remember that Australia is a very large tropical country (no 2 or 3 in the world). Climate varies because it is a continent and north-south is a bit more than 2500km.

@urbanblocks2698 The vast majority of the US/Canada, Western Europe, the Middle East, and most Asian countries have options that allow for extended trading, not always 24/7, but definitely better than sleepy pre modern tradition of early closing trading. Australia will never be modernised until it surpasses, trading times of the 1950's and 1960's.
