What's amazing about Berle as a 90-year-old is that he still has his vigor and timing--and his voice. Most people start to become fraile and feeble by 75, say that they live that long. Even though his Vaudeville silliness might seem corny to some, he still wears it like a newly pressed suit. To his last breath, he was always the master. 80+ years in show business? What other comedian today will ever be able to say that?
@@anish3183 Not quite true. During the roasts, he could be a little risque, but never dirty. Off-stage, yeah, he had a filthy mouth and he never apologized for it. But doing it onscreen was a no-no for him. He knew his audience and what they would and wouldn't stand for.

I figured this had to have been part of an act that he developed in Vaudeville. He talked about women’s feminine hygiene in great detail. His show in Vegas was certainly something that I hadn’t seen before on television. Back then a midnight show was only $20.00 and two cocktails were included in the ticket price.
Milton Berle was one of the greats and he was also famous in show business circles for years for his very big....'trouser cannon' and Whoopi Goldberg's jokes at the start of this video in which she mentions 'big' and 'long' are referring to this....very funny and well done.
He was amazing, He has been in hollywood since 1914 and was 27 years old in 1927. He has been entertaining for 10 decades...wow. I miss his humor, he was so hilarious. I like the old male comics because they are funnier and cleaner, they can be funny without cursing and be vulger. RIP Milton Berle( 1908-2002) he was a true National Treasure and American Institution. I get very upset when people talk about great comics they leave him out and Bob Hope...They paved the way for all the comics from 1950s up until now. They were the first comedian superstars. To me they go up on top of my top 20.

People regarded it as an amazing phenomenon. The ONLY entertainment prior to that was radio, and movies - period. "Appliance stores" were instructed to place "TV sets" in the front window(s) of their stores, with the volume up high. Naturally, people were insatiably curious. As "word" spread, it became, more and more THE new "invention" that EVERYBODY simply had to have. There were some very good shows at the time , i.e. I Love Lucy, Sid Ceasar, and, later Dick Vandyke, Colgate Comedy Hour, Ed Sullivan, etc. etc. As I recall, the only popular program on Tuesday evening was Texaco Star Theater (starring Milton Berle. Taken together, THOSE were all the reasons why TV became so popular, so quickly. Reruns of I Love Lucy, Your Show of Shows Dick Vandyke, etc., et al are still on - but not Uncle Miltie. That tells you something.
