    Wow! After 30 years of playing this game, I finally found out what is the actual English name. Growing up we called it "Puntos" (translates to points in English). However, I knew it was a certain type of Rummy.
    We play pretty much the same only difference is the scoring. Aces =15 pts no matter if it was used in a run or a set. 2-9 =5 pts. J-K =10 pts.
    Also, I am guessing my family plays with a game variant; if you are able to play all your cards down and also have a card to discard to get out, you score double the points.
    Thanks for a great video and wonderful explanations of this and other games.

      An alternate name for Rummy 500 is 500 Rummy. To simplify scoring, your method of counting 2-9 all as 5 points each is fine. I recall using this alternate method of scoring.

    Can you meld on top of a single meld, if someone has one card down to be apart of another run, can someone continue the run from the single card?

    If anyone is out there and could answer this that would be awesome. Can you add to the card that was added to a meld? For example in this video can you add to the 6 of clubs after it was added to the original meld ?

    • @jledesma1175
      @jledesma1175 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes sir… you absolutely can. Btw been playing this game since I was a kid and I’m 47 now.
      I love this game! 😃

    • @8317dh
      @8317dh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The 7 of clubs may be added to the club run. However, if 3 sevens are melded as a set, one who melds the 7 of clubs must specify whether it is added to the set of sevens or to the club run.

    can you add to a meld if you have no melds down yourself? and can a player discard a rummy to end the game? and what if a card in the discard pile becomes a rummy after someone melds a set of cards is this still a rummy that can be called? and he explains it here calling rummy makes it that players turn and play continues from their position?

  • @tski3458
    @tski3458 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Our play variation is different
    2 player
    dealer gets 10
    other gets 11 discards
    runs are a minimum of 4 cards
    you must open with a set and a run together in one turn. After open on the next turn then you can take cards past the last discard. You must have one card to make a set or run in your hand prior to pulling the discards past the last discard. If your pulling all the discards starting with a Jack you must have a jack in your hand in the first place. Same goes for a Run. You must have part of the meld your going to play.
    you can play with a joker. It is a spoiler. if its stuck as deadwood its -50 points.
    If you need a card that is in the melds of your opponent, you can take this card and replace it with the joker. your opponent looses the face value of the card you take.
    if your opponent later draws this card he can swap out the card you took to regain the value he lost. The jokers would go back into the desk to be reshuffled.

    Question: if a player draws more than one card from the discard pile, are they required to play the top or the bottom card they pick up?

    if you have 2 cards left and draw a card to make your meld and then lay them down do i have to have a discard??

    • @nclfwlr
      @nclfwlr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t say what the actual rules are but the way I was taught is you must pull, lay down your meld then discard.

    • @8317dh
      @8317dh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The 3 cards may be melded without a discard.

    When we play, upon calling Rummy, you can only play the card that you picked up, and you can only pick up the top card on the discard pile. Play then returns to the person who was supposed to play next.

    When you pull a stack from the discard pile, do you have to play the first card in a meld, or can you use any card (ie what if you wanted the xtra card for later, but not ready to play it)

    • @annaraccoon9837

    whats scoring on a queen king ace meld or what is ace value??

    • @8317dh
      @8317dh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Q-K-A sequence (run), the ace counts 15 and the run's total value is 35. Only in an A-2-3 run that an ace counts only one point.

    The only difference between this and the way me and my friends play is the scoring 10- face cards are worth 10pts aces are 15 or 5pts depending hi low the spread is and all other cards are worth 5pts to those wanting to know the difference between this and gin rummy is gin rummy ur keeping your spreads in your hands and not on the table

    So me and my friend got into an argument over this. He says that calling rummy is something I made up and isn't actually a real thing. Later that day when I refreshed someone on the rules of rummy I said, "If you draw the top card you don't have to use it that moment, but if you draw any cards from below, then you have to use them and put something down." And again my friend called hogwash. His only argument is "this is how my great-grandma taught me." Can y'all help me, whos right here, thx in advance.
