This was EASILY one of the very best attractions at Disney World. I'm glad I went on it before it was made kid friendly. Story I heard was that Disney changed it because, even though it was NOT recommended for children, parents took the kids on anyway and then complained when the kids freaked out. But then, I've also heard that some adults freaked out from it. The video doesn't capture the sense of the creature near you as you feel vibrations from it walking as it gets nearer to you, its breath on your neck and the flick of its tail on your back.
One of the best experiences as a 7 year old I've ever had lol I'm showing my wife and kids now and they are seeing it was crazy but they didn't experience crazy first hand lol
The main reason for the closure was that Jeffery Jones, who played L C Clench, was arrested for having child porn and attempted to lure some young boys into doing dirty stuff, marking him as a sex-offender. Obviously, Disney will have nothing to do with sex-offenders. Sure, they could have replaced Jones with another actor by using bluescreen effects. Let's hope for an updated version of Alien Encounter will come with an age control so that kids can't ever come on the ride.
It's like beyond disappointing that they closed it because a few people got scared. Those same people would probably think back on it and be grateful they got to experience it. They literally get rid of fun for other people because some can't handle it. It's literally about an alien breaking out and killing ppl so idk who was taking their kid on this thinking it'd be allg.. and if adults can't handle the make believe then what has this world come to. It's so sad horror fans or people who enjoy scary things will never get to see this irl.
My dad took me to this when i was 5 and i remember the whole thing. I was one of the little kids screeming yanking his dad telling him ITS TIME TO GO!!! haha good times. afterwards i remember my dad said, "look the alien!" and i took off running! it was so real to me..
This ride consisted of terrified screaming children whose parents were warned several times that this was an extreme attraction and would probably scare their small kids. I thought it was great, but then again, I was 19 lol.
AmyPalooza my mom made me go on that ride and I was 11 at the time, and at the time they must move the sign because we didn't see any signs for warnings and truthfully you know they shouldn't let kids on that ride anyways it should be an adult only ride

No, but you really imagined that the creature was flying over your head in the dark and munching on people! I am sure they didn't want mass panic and people running out and trampling others. It was intense and amazing.
Sheri Kasper the chairs i think had subwoofers in them (to simulate walking but don't quote me on that) and the restraints had all of the effects to simulate the alien. 2 speakers to create binaural audio, sprinklers to simulate spit or blood, air tubes to simulate the alien licking audience members, and they could also jolt downward and create the feeling of the alien sitting on top of your shoulders.
I knew I wasn't tripping, I remember the alien having more of a Xenomorph appearance back in it's earlier stages, it must have transformed into, some more hideous monster overtime
All Kids are different some kids would b completely terrified & cry or like me & my sister absolutely love it & laugh so much, we were the only kids on AE & Tower Of Terror that came of the ride laughing & want to go straight back on it

oh yeah I remember this ride when I was a kid in the 90's, when the alien escapes, you can feel it's hot breath on your neck, and the guy with the flash light, when he gets killed,, you feel "wet drops of blood" fall. and then when the alien explodes in the tube, you feel wet blood explode all over you. lol.
They could've made this a LOT more interactive. Like, could you imagine how much scarier it would be if the alien made a run for YOU when you started screaming?...
Andrew Fontanez It originally was going to be the Xenomorph, but they ultimately decided not to have an attraction based on a R rated film in the park. Besides, that was just promotional footage. The actual creature looked much different. Think like a cross between a lobster and a bat, and you'll get close. The size was accurate though.
See it's the parents doing of bringing their kids... it's on them really but adults I can understand... definitely not something you'd expect...to meet it looks so cool...wish I experienced it
The version that would have gone full-on Alien, including using the Xenomorph, was shelved. This version was an entirely original story, which meant they had to invent their own alien for it.
If they went with the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the Xenomorph, then parents would have known this and go "uh-oh, it's a ride based on THAT franchise, I'm not going to take my kid on this" preventing it from shutting down. It's all the old imagineers fault. Hope an updated version of Alien Encounter will appear based on the original idea, should go now that Disney owns Fox.
They're gonna have some Wreck It Ralph crap in there because they're gonna close the Stitch ride that's in it now. Nobody is gonna ride it because either they never have heard of Wreck It Ralph or they hate it like me. EXTRATERRORESTRIAL was cool even tho I've never been on it.
I love Wreck-It Ralph, but I do think a Wall-E or a Big Hero 6 attraction, or even bringing back Alien Encounter (replace Jeffery Jones who is Chairman Clench, because he is a sex offender) would work far better here than Wreck-It Ralph.

Virna Mendoza Wouldn't work for two reasons. One, the show itself was almost entirely in darkness, and thus meant the show was based on playing with the other senses. Most of the scares were from the creature spitting/breathing/licking you. Can't really do that with a movie. Two, the intensity of the attraction would easily warrant any film adaptation an R rating, which is something Disney will never do.
That's because Stitch is the attempted "family friendly" revamp of this attraction. Needless to say, it wasn't very good. Alien Encounter did one thing and one thing well: scare the ever-loving crap out of people. Disney knew this, and had warnings about the intensity all over the place. Unfortunately, oblivious parents would ignore these, drag their unwilling children in, and then complain about the show being too scary when the kids got utterly traumatized...despite the fact that the show wasn't for kids to begin with! Alien closed due to a combination of factors, but the intensity is certainly a key component. Trying to reutilize the system, Disney tried to make it more family friendly. Well, getting strapped to a chair in the dark and getting stuff sprayed at you doesn't change the experience for a kid, whether the alien be a menace or a comic. Kids still get scared on Stitch, and now it lacks the bite that made Alien all the better.

It was because it was mostly in the dark. You couldn't see anything. You could just hear people screaming and they made it so it felt like the alien was breathing on you, etc.

Then Suddenly, Lights start flashing and It goes dark.. You hear him hissing and screeching very loudly throughout the room. Then Imagine hearing and feeling the alien hiss and breath down your neck, as your bars are being pushed down, basically simulating he's standing on your harness. Then imagine feeling him touch your neck as he screeches, While everyone else is screaming mixed with guns firing off and fog filling the room... Its Terrifying.

To be honest, they should've just put a height limit on the ride to restrict small kids from riding
