That was an amazing troll level. Expertly designed. That blue snake scenario he made was unreal
That was so perfect. It had that "oh, this is how you avoid the troll, I'm so smart" instinctive spot it presented to you, and just when you get there you realize what you've done. And in that moment of realization, you are feeshed. 🤣
Ryu got one of Shieldser's levels in his recent run, so I guess he decided to do more of his levels :D

It's one of those phrases that causes instant comedic timing, similar to "watch this!"
I'm pretty sure it's his way of vocalizing his rationalization to make sure it makes sense to himself even though rationality doesn't mean much when you're just at the mercy of a specific level creator

Decent troll level. Great job, Ryu. For future reference, "benevolent" connotes no back-to-CP1 setup involved, and is sometimes used to describe lack of anti-softlocks, both of which this level fulfilled.
Except for that comment that said softlock at the end. lol
@@youtubenightcrawler9571 that's an oversight, and kinda the player's fault to some degree.
Anti-softlock refers to the "takes effort to die" scenario where you're shoved into an annoying minigame to kill Mario. So you can get back to the previous CP.
Or the omissions of any actual Softlocks. Or correct me if wrong or are those banned from 'Community accepted troll levels altogether even?
@@youtubenightcrawler9571 Yea, I was thinking that. I hope it was just the guy who missed or failed the actual anti-softlock mechanism (like waiting for a conveyor to drop something etc).
In most circumstances, softlocks are unintentional. That's why you see version numbers in titles or descriptions; levels are revised in attempts to eliminate softlocks. There are certain scenarios where they're intentional, but you have to be a savant of level design or you have to be very obvious in demonstrating that it's part of the storytelling of the level. So it's not prohibited, per se, but it's frowned upon to carelessly include them.
Ryu, I gotta say, you have a patience that is simply unmatched, and it is what makes your videos a true joy to watch.
Honestly troll levels like this are some of the most fun (to watch, I've never played MM); every turn is surprising and crafty and the whole experience is like a pseudo puzzle.

The most hilarious thing is like at 10:30 when Ryu (or whoever) dodges a troll then they go into this delusional and jokey state of thinking they're the best when they're only riding the crest of the false sense of security.
In a Troll Level, Benevolent simply means it doesn't send you back to CP1, or make you recollect all the Red Coins.
That's not benevolent, that's just basic decency. Though by troll standards, I suppose it is actually pretty benevolent, now that I think about it.

Watching Ryu and Panga playing troll levels are fun in such a different way compared to watching Carl or DGR playing them.

I watch other creators play troll levels, but Ryu never fails to make me laugh. Combining the two is beautiful
I hope he makes more dedicated troll level videos in the future. Ryu is awesome and it's always been a sad thing that he wasn't interested in the most fun part of SMM2. I hope he finds the Curated Trolls website and gets hooked :D

It's really refreshing to see Ryu play trolls. An expert player totally unfamiliar with the troll meta, just getting completely bodied.
I love when Ryu plays troll levels. The style is much different from Carl, Geek, Defender, and Juz.
Ryu doing troll levels has a different feel to it, it's definitely not his thing to do the "good trolls" usually but it's still fun to watch as always.
Also yeah Shieldser is notoriously unforgiving from what I remember
I guess the benevolent is the lack of his trademark antisoftlocks and CP1s though Ryu could have just avoided them

@@Jesse__H An antisoftlock is a dead-end room wherein the objective is to die (so that you can respawn at a checkpoint instead of having to replay the whole level). Generally they have all sorts of nonsense making this difficult to do.
I really love good troll levels. I want to see more.
What a level. You should take up Carl Sagan's habit of not pause-buffering for troll levels. Obviously for endless it's different, but doing it in a troll level kind of kills the fun/tension.
If you're a fucking moron then yeah, sure. If pause buffering ruins the video for you then have way deeper issues. He's not going to do that. People play how they play. If you don't like the way they play then you don't have to watch. Dipshit.
I like seeing you play troll levels. It's always a lot of fun because you're an amazing player but are not used to troll levels so you do some things that streamers like Carl and DGR wouldn't do and that's refreshing. Also, when you're playing a well done troll level, don't go around jumping trying to find hidden stuff because that's not that they do (except for some very specific cases and never to hide a key or something like that). You're more used to playing poorly done troll levels or just hot garbage with hidden stuff that's why your instinct to jump around kicks in.
BTW this is a fantastic troll level!

Generally there are two types of trolls, the fun/creative and the brutal/tiring. Would like to see more of the fun ones, but avoid the brutal ones, especially avoid anything marked with a #DGR like the plage, as they tend to suck out your soul like the devil!

Troll levels are where the cutting-edge creativity is in this community. Talk to Carl, Chichiri, Geek, Defender, et. al. about sourcing extraordinary troll levels. The ones made by the masters are absolutely worth your time.

_benevolence_, in a good troll level atleast, usually refers to things like _no back to cp1_, _no cp0_, or _no brutal, absolutely soul-crushing antisoftlock_.
One of my favorite trolls is a single hidden block, 5:34 because the paranoia it causes. All those extra jumps here had me rolling.

For some reason I want to see your Ryu's alter-egos come and review your Troll level fails. Bring in special guests(Poo,Barb,Feeney, etc), but they have have to copy your alter-ego form. Nigel-Ryu for example.

That level was crazy! Who thinks this stuff up? Excellent puzzle, but dang, many levels above me. And then to have the strength of will to sit there and play it! Good job! Hey, what happened to that platformer with the little square robot that could pick up different powerups like Mega-Man? Did it just die off or get unpopular all of a sudden? I thought that was going to be the next Mario.
