@@yoavschmidt7082 No offense taken. I created Splitmind. I find producers I believe in and help build a career with them. But as a “business owner” I’m usually found doing lots of random shit. Some days my creative hat is on and I’m connecting dots or introducing people. Landing records. Setting up sessions. Finding samples to use. Working on brand shit with the producers. Other days I’m on the managerial side of things. Did business get sorted for a record, negotiating for clients, email chain shit, meetings, payments coming in etc. I own drumify.com too so I help on the creative and technical front. Nothing is really off the table. I’d like to delegate better moving forward. I find myself running in too many directions.

Label shares should be on the table too, it’s crazy that they can get away with taking so much edit: I am seeing the numbers in the music math breakdown - I keep forgetting how little is generated per every million streams. I wonder how those numbers have changed over the years - has the amount of money in the game gone down significantly since streaming took over? Or has it always been like this?
money made on touring has been the main artist earner for the last fifteen or so. The total amount of money in the industry isn't down that much, (in the US people are spending 15+ a month on streaming services, plus regular show tickets) Streaming services eat most of the revenue (10-15/m, only a small fraction is payed out per stream, yet Spotify is still losing money lol,). label makes less than they used to in the physical sale + radio world, and the artist either has to go platinum to make real money on the master, or capitalize on a couple sub-platinum song to tour. The producer gets kind of fucked in the modern era, because they neither get the touring income, or large cut from royalties. (They don't benefit from a big track until their production fee is exceeded and royalties start paying, (artist/label recoup) that's effectively a million streams before any royalty dollar rolls in)
Great video. How do you usually receive these master royalties from a major label? Can you audit them to see where you’re at? I have 3 points on a song that has 22M on Spotify Also, do you ever just do a pub and master split without an upfront fee? Or you always get upfront fee?
@@RRAREBEAR You have to email the label to get setup with a master royalty portal. If you took a production fee then it’s unlikely you’ve recouped. The balance will either say $0 or what you’ve recouped so far. If you took nothing then you should see a nice surprise in there. Nothing crazy Yeah sometimes we take $0 upfront if the terms are great. I talk about that in the video

@@AlbinKottaram We have 10-15 releases a month on average. Size of artist and deal type varies per. In June when I made this video we cleared 3 15k fees in 2 weeks + whatever else was going on. Hard to keep track nowadays
Hey man so I recently got a major placement opportunity but they've been dragging it on for pretty long from when they originally reached out to me saying they're using my beat. They first reached out almost a couple months and finally its starting to pick up and now the lawyers are finally doing there thing. Just one question for you though as I seen it took some follow ups for you as well. Is it like this for almost all labels with slow responses and such?
but how would you know youre getting the right %? like what if an independent artist made 100k and ur promised 25%, but they tell you they only made 10k?
@@aliveebutgone You need to get added to distrokid for splits or whatever platform they use to release music right when the music releases. You’ll get paid automatically that way

No lie producers shouldnt get anything on the master unless they help fully mix and master and isn't paid you already get 50 in pub for your comp not giving anything off the master just won't write to that person's beats
