How can you watch this and not smile. Bob "Tony" was very subtle during this performance, you can tell it meant a lot to him. Long live Andy Kaufman, Bob Zmuda and Tony Clifton.
Tony Clifton - an absolute CLASS ACT! To come out and funeralize that dead kid after he spent so many years using Tony Clifton's good name to get places. Absolute king.
Andy died 40 years ago next May. I still cry when I watch this movie, every single time. I was a kid, but my uncle and I LOVED Andy Kaufman. I stayed up late and we called into the number for SNL to keep him. I never missed Taxi. We loved everything about Andy. I lived in Western Kentucky and we could get the Memphis wrestling shows with him and Larry Lawler. My uncle was at the show where he read Gatsby in its entirety. He never stooped talking about it. I tear up a little every time I hear the song. Andy and Uncle Pat ARE the memory of my childhood. Yes, I got up off the couch and adjusted the vertical roll on my screen during the Andy Kaufman Special. We were freaking out that the TV was messed up, Nooooooooooo!!! Andy is gone. Uncle Pat is gone. But I am still here singing their praises.
Not sure what it is about this video, but it moves me. I can't quite put my finger on it. The lighting is just beautiful and the way this video is shot is simply stunning. Watching the crowd gently sing the words. Bob is doing Tony sand Tony is singing a tribute song about him. It's beyond wild. Bob's doing an amazing job trying to do a good performance of this song in the manner that the ridiculous character he is playing would do it. I could listen to this over and over.
When he did the nasally hack job voice you can hear emotions show through. Meanwhile he was backed up by an excellent bunch of musicians. What surprises me is that this glorious video has so few views.
@@jolee6751 He had a large empty cardboard box on stage. It was in a comedy club in Denver, I think, he had me hide under the box and promised to give me an introduction and I'd pop out like a jack in the box. He never did it. I don't know why.

The Tony Clifton character was pure genius! I was born in '81, so didn't get to enjoy Andy live. He's such a great practical jokester that people still think he faked his death almost 35 years later.
This is just another reason why Tony Clifton is the most underrated vocalist of all time! Give this legendary entertainer the credit he is due! Not sure who this ‘Andy’ is, but Tony sounds epic as always!
This is Andy’s long time partner Bob Zmuda! He actually is said to have preformed Tony more than Andy did, there’s a great clip of Tony circa Idk when on TH-cam it’s called like “Tony Clifton tells a great joke”, hilarious and it’s Bob Zmuda again. Zmuda had spent the last few decades continuing Andy’s work, he even insists that Andy is alive still, something we know. I want to dress like Tony Clifton and do this song for karaoke, but I don't think anyone would get it. Might be offensive for some reason.
its so fucking funny watching the crowd bob their head and sing along having absolutely no idea what their being exposed to,,,Andy Kaufman still pulling peoples chains 30 years after his death,,, Thank You Bob for keeping Andy around,,,what happened to" stormy justice" ???
I watched Jim and Andy on netflix the other day. I'm lead to believe that its actually the production crew from the film man on the moon in the audience.
A little disrespectful towards R.E.M. not mentioning them at the start of the performance as they did write this fantastic song which is my favourite tune of all time but on the plus side what an excellent cover, love it!!!😎
Kaufman's sense of humor has made him immortal. Long after his passing we are all still guessing about Tony Clifton's identity. Is he Bob Zmuda? Is he Andy's brother? Did Andy Kaufman fake his death to allow himself to completely disappear inside Tony Clifton's hammy persona?

In our hearts and memories always, but we all know if that was Andy the performance would be so much better, it would be the mischieveous, disrespectful, overconfident, shit singing Clifton, not this tired aged Zmuda still getting a paycheck off of his old friend. RIP Andy, the funniest fucker i ever see
Zmuda was Andy's writer, and his "Clifton" was always funnier in my opinion. There really was no Andy without Bob- it was a comedy duo- even though it was never promoted that way.
That's Bob Zmuda....not Andy, they each did Tony. Bob is a very talented guy, much more Tony than Andy's Tony. Andy's Elvis on Carson was EPIC! Look it up....
Then you've clearly never listened to them properly in the first place. You prefer a tired old half arsed Zmuda renidition over REM's? Sort your life out.
It's sad to watch Tony age with his creator and puppet master, he seems tired and the essence of Clifton is dead, it's just Zmuda singing dressed up as clifton, there's no act or personification anymore, it's not just karaoke, it's an act and Zmuda doesn't do his and Andy's creation justice anymore. RIP Andy, RIP Clifton
His friend aswell, Andy was his gravytrain when alive and so long after Andy's death, he's still getting paid because of him. No Tony Clifton will ever beat Andy's, although Jim Carey gets 2nd place for his exaggerated Clifton performance

It,s really a mixture of sadness and joy. Andy was just so brilliant!
Even if there's just one person in that audience completely confused wondering why so many people came to see him, than Andy is smiling in paradise.
I had the pleasure to perform on stage with Andy Kaufman. It was a very weird experience for the audience but I loved every minute of it.

Legendary and very fitting having Tony Clifton sing this song. Love it
What makes it work is because he sings it (almost) straight, he respects the song, and he has a first class band backing him up.
Fantastic Bob! love you, Tony Clifton is genious!
Brilliant horn section
If you're still around when I die, I want you to please sing this at my funeral. With the full brass band!
