Loved those abstracts, they have truly inspired me to go out and find some of my own I'm all fired up, thanks Marc and all at The TSOP.

Marc, you've given a great into to abstract photography and have shown us how to do it...and all in 10 minutes! Thank you for challenging us to widen our horizons.

Great work Marc. I confess that I usually groan when people try to talk about abstract photography (or art) because most people struggle with the concept. Your approach of quoting from a dictionary was a safe way to dodge some flack. ;-) The shared images were pretty good too. The test to apply when looking at something called abstract. is to ask whether or not it is clear just what the object is. If the subject is immediately obvious and interpretable as a particular thing, it errs towards realism and is not abstract. There is no defence by claiming it is all about light and shape and texture and doesn't show the whole thing. So you captured the essence of abstraction really quite well, and to quote someone I know, "it's as simple as that, really." :-)

I don’t know who’s working the video camera, but they are killing it.

Some of my favorite abstract photographs were taken by Ernst Haas and Franco Fontana.
Ernst Haas used a lot of wide apertures on his.

just returned from a week's holiday in Eilat , and used some of the ideas plucked from this and the patterns videos , to add a touch of surrealism to some of my holiday pictures !! ( you really CAN teach an old dog new tricks !!! )

This video is great. I've been trying more abstract photography lately, but haven't gotten anything I really like yet.

Liked the B&W one you did, I think B&W brings out contrast in abstract images. Never been keen on rust, but as an image rust looks really interesting. I think the antique fraternity call some of the texture you photographed as 'Patina'.- a surface that's grown beautiful with age. Cant be said about me, I'm more on the rusty side these days..!!!!

Just started your course (really enjoying it) also watching your youtube videos. This one really inspired me to get out and try something different. Do you ever experience people challenging you in this type of situation suspicious of what you might be doing?

Not really Philip, I've been doing it so long now I don't really think about it anymore.
