  • Strategically located between the rivers of Lipis and Jelai, the jungle and historical town of Kuala Lipis was an influential trading centre in the early days. Its vital location had prompted the British to choose Kuala Lipis as the capital of Pahang, which remained so until Kuantan, the present capital, took over the honour inn 1955.
The buildings around the town are legacies of the British ruling and many hold a special place in history.
The Pahang Club House, built in 1867, was the first buildings built by the British in Kuala Lipis. It was home to the British Residents {administrators} appointed to Pahang. It also served as a temporary house to Sir Hugh Clifford, who later became the second British Resident to the state. Sadly, this club was left vacant and its fate remains unknown.
The Clifford School, which was formerly known as the Anglo-Chinese School, was built in 1913 to honour the British Resident. Many of the state leaders and royalties were educated at this prestigious school.
