    I use Mill Hill kits for my travel projects. And if we are on a camping trip, I will take a couple of additional projects to work on for the times when we are in the RV.

    Not done yet, but loving this video! I just said that on insta already, but came over here to say that for David Eddings you want to start with the Belgariad series (#1 is Pawn of Prophecy) before the Mallorean. Absolutely love these series - just good old-fashioned fantasy epic without being *too* epic so it's not a huge brain buy-in.
    Thank you for discussing these planning topics from a place of low barrier entry. Executive function + anxiety + perfectionism is difficult for a lot of us, I think. Hope that you have a happy and healthy New Year 💜

      @luvslyfe1 ปีที่แล้ว

      I read both series the Belgariad and the Mallorean twice! Loved the comic albeit sometimes corny dialogue between the characters. Silk was quite a character lol.

    • @thebrowneyedstitcher
      @thebrowneyedstitcher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! But I have the Mallorean already! I didn't realize it came after the Belgariad series which has been recommended to me several times too. Thank you for letting me know.
      I truly believe that engaging at all should be enough to say "I did it". There's been so many times when I've said "just pick up one piece of trash" which then allowed me to pick up five pieces within the same reach. But I also would have called it done with just one. 🤍

      @@thebrowneyedstitcher I think you’ll get the most enjoyment if you also read the Belgariad. Belgarath and Polgara’s history and the raising of Belgarion when he was a boy through adulthood. Its been a couple of decades since i read it, so I am vague on some details. My memory def isn’t what it used to be 😂

    We bought a gazebo type structure that has netting around it with a vertical zipper to enter/exit-like a picnic tent. It keeps the bugs at bay which worked really well for buggy season at our house.

      Just yesterday I watched a podcast where the presenter was sharing some of her art while in nature which was sometimes people and sometimes plants. One thing she said that really stood out to me was that our ability should not be anything that stops us and she then showed a picture that looked like a little child through it and she said sometimes I deliberately draw like a 5 year old because it's about the process and about making art not about perfection.

    Such a great video to start my morning! I have been working on a daily & weekly schedule for 2023. I need to be able to do all the things but not overdo it so that I am in bed for 2-3 days from exhaustion. The shots I have to do every Sunday for my RA already put me down for Mondays & sometimes Tuesdays. So lots of reflection & brainstorming has been my focus this past week. I think I have it pretty much balanced out, now to put it into motion. I've never been this excited for a new year as I am for 2023. You & this community has been so good for my soul this year. I actually feel good about where I'm at in life. It's scary because mentally, I have not felt this good ever. I am more focused & happy than I've ever been. Here's to rocking 2023 *cheers*

      @@thebrowneyedstitcher yes! Definitely need to be okay with giving ourselves grace on the days we need it. With the army of amazing stitchers we have surrounding us, and having each other, we got this! I am starting to come to terms with the fact I can't do it all in one day like I used to but I can do it all throughout the week/month. Feeling less defeated & more accomplished is my motto for 2023. Much love my friend ❤

    For your 15 minutes outside goal, how about taking your dog out for a daily walk? Maybe you can plant some herbs or veggies that you can use for cooking, easy care ones in containers that you can set out on your patio/deck. Mother Nature is very healing, emotionally and mentally. The downside of cross stitch is that it is sedentary. I hope you are able to connect to her spirit. Take care and thanks for sharing.

    For the porch you can get a glider loveseat with an awning on it. Then go to IKEA and get one of those mosquito nets to put over top. If you can't find a glider with an awning, get a sun umbrella stand and set that up with the netting over it.

    For mosquitos, sometimes taking Brewer's yeast tablets every day works.
    I don't remember where the idea comes from, but using what the author called 'Little Minutes' where if something takes less than one minute do it right then. It's not always practical or possible, but many a time it's taken a to-do off my chore list painlessly.
    I completely understand your need to try to cram all the life improvements into your day immediately. Maybe starting off with one habit a month- or focusing on one habit a month- might be easier to implement, then add another one once that habit is established. Don't forget to give yourself some grace. Maybe do a daily/weekly tracker so that you can easily see what things need more consistency.
    I truly hope your plans come to fruition, and that you find peace and happiness with your new life goals. All the best xx

    • @thebrowneyedstitcher
      @thebrowneyedstitcher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will absolutely try the brewers yeast tablets. I am desperate. Haha!
      I've heard of that idea with the tiny tasks and I do try to implement that! Sometimes the mental aspect is what takes the time 🤪
      I might not have made this very clear in the video but most of the things I talked about I already do in my life I just needed to give it some maybe fresh structure for 2023. The one really big change is getting outside. And I suppose moving more but I'm pairing that with getting outside so it feels like one thing to me in a way. I do have a tendency to go all in and then find a balance as I go along. I don't know if that is bad or poor but it is my tendency.
      Thank you for your encouragement and friendship, Holly! 🫂🤍

    More thoughts, after you’ve been down to pick books hahaha - my little brother has instigated a new regime for himself this year. Each day he gets up goes for a walk, for 30min or so then comes home and reads two chapters of whatever book he is in the middle of. He isn’t allowed to get on his online game until this is done. He is a high school teacher so is quite sedentary the rest of the time but this is getting him out each day for air plus getting his “to read” list worked on.

    I’m not done watching your video yet, (about halfway), but wanted to tell you that I love watching you work out your plans. You have some lovely projects. I struggle with some of the same issues, not to mention it appears that you and I are also both lefties, lol. Are you willing to share where you got the target cleaning from? I need help to streamline my schedule 😥. I’m the caregiver of my late 80’s yrs old mother and my daughter was recently injured in an accident and can’t drive due to injuries, so it is taking a toll on me on multiple levels. I have my own health issues too, so any help in streamlining is greatly appreciated ! Love your content, Suki. Hugs to you and Happy New Year 🥳 🎊

    • @thebrowneyedstitcher

      That is a lot of things to pay attention to. Streamlining is so helpful in taking a mental load off while knowing things will still get done. Hooray for being lefties!!! The cleaning packet was one I bought from Simple Everyday Home. I print out two pages on one sheet just for having less paper around.

      Gardening is a really good reminder! I do have a garden space although I have not been good at following through on it for a whole season lately. I really ought to pair it with my outdoor time!! And I love how you paired that with my nature journaling idea as well.

    I don’t know with the beads and perforated paper if the Mill Hill patterns are the best purse projects but if anyone can do it you would be able to! The Year of the Woods would probably be great travel pieces. I think.
    Thank you dear, I started a WIPGO board too!!
    I use an app called Structured Pro to align my schedule for cleaning times and which rooms, gym times, stitching times and now that I bought the full app instead of just using the free one all my appointments are now in the app too! Which is sooooo awesome!
    Can we get a gazebo tent with mesh sides put up??? Then you would have a cozy safe space to watch nature.
    To create Balance by going screen free means to replace it by reaching out to interact with other people face to face instead of interacting with people online. Is my understanding.
    Do a WIPGO board for reading books. Lol😅
    Awesome video!!!!! 💛🌹💛

      @thebrowneyedstitcher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooohhh, good point with the perforated paper. I'll have to think about that some more. It may still be okay but I hadn't considered that part. A Year In The Woods might work but I haven't tested out the fabric in the small project bag. I'm stitching three on one fabric so it's a little larger than normal but I'd love to get some regular work on that!
      I'll look up Structured Pro! I had played around with my Google Calendar but I'm always up for looking at what might better serve me.
      Oh my gosh, Tracy, a gazebo tent with mesh sides is probably the PERFECT solution for dealing with mosquitoes!! They are no fun. 😵
      I maaaaaay try a WIPGO board for my books! 😁 It could be fun and I love reading a variety all at once. You've got me considering it again!

    Just a couple of thoughts that popped into my head while watching 😅
    Why don't you crochet some sort of poncho for those colder days/mornings so you can spend some time at your deck in the morning... Maybe even with a cup of coffee/tea and a good book 🤷‍♀️
    There are apps where you can block your phone for a period of time... I use Digital Detox from time to time but I'm an Android user... No idea if they have an Apple version... But with that one you can set which apps you are still allowed to use during a detox session...
    Kaelyn is probably a bit to old to go to playgrounds but when my boys were younger I would take my cross stitching with me whenever we would go to the park/playground... Maybe you can take your cross stitching and go sit on a bench in the park to get some sunlight/nature vibes 🤷‍♀️
    If you haven't choosen between the 4 books I would either pick the highly sensitive person - read that one myself a couple of years ago (in Dutch 😅) and it's a good one as far as I can remember - or the housekeeping one because it ties in with your plan to get a house cleaning schedule

    • @thebrowneyedstitcher
      @thebrowneyedstitcher  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been somewhat getting outside on my deck. I've discovered that without deck furniture, I'm limited if it has rained. 😅
      I am Android too! I will look up Digital Detox.

    • @TinneStitchingBAPs

      @@thebrowneyedstitcher I know the problem... We don't have any outside furniture either at the moment 😅
      And I'm having the same problem as you with your books... I, too, have a good home library but I still buy new ones and I still can't enter our local library without getting more books to read and I have PLENTY enough at home 🙈
      My plan for this year is to try and only read books that I already own 😅 Not sure if I can do it but I will try...

    Midway through and you’re talking about how to approach the reading - rotation, moving the books etc - why don’t you print a copy of each cover and use the back of your stitch WIP board and place all your books you want to read on that side…. Shuffle them up and down as they take your fancy? Means you don’t have to have books moved to where you are , you can see them without having them all there…. Right back to the video….

    • @thebrowneyedstitcher
      @thebrowneyedstitcher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, that isn't a bad idea to have some kind of way to see the books without moving them around. 🤔 I wonder if my reading tracking app gives me that kind of functionality. It probably does and I haven't ever paid attention. 🤣🤣🤣
