    I cannot comprehend people getting so hyped over the same games being released Over and over. Why do people excuse these practices. Heck, even Destiny 2 simply brought back D1 raids and called it a day. Why can’t we hold publishers to the expectation to create? To give budgets to risky projects? To give budgets even to safe projects that aren’t their one flagship cash cow? Indies are amazing, but I want dead franchises to be given AAA budgets, indie games with big name publishers and budgets, unique ideas with new IP’s given the light of day. It shouldn’t have to be so celebrated when these things do rarely happen. It should be normal

      Because AAA studios only think about money and profit and want to play it safe and most console gamers, especially Play Station gamers are causal gamers who enjoy the same boring movies.

      Hogwarts Legacy was released without massive bugs.
      Baldur's Gate 3 gets released and has so many bugs that it's almost unplayable. I would not call it a successful launch. I would call it a fail because they knew it wasn't ready. They just didn't care. They wanted the profit. "We dont have to fix the bugs. If the game is interesting enough. People will play it even if it doesn't work!"
      That's a fail in my book. BG3 failed.

    Truth is, ratings don't matter anymore. Its the money, they need power. Their agenda has a deeper rabbit whole than you imagine.

  • @kmdreacts
    @kmdreacts ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why do they need to?
    You've got a generation on kids pre buying months before release, diehards, those with FOMO who buy deluxe edition, and those who after being disappointed several times with releases, continue to do the same thing over and over and buy the dlcs along the way that are really just the last 30-50% of the game being sold back to you.
    Pokémon is a prime example..
    No matter how many times the games get worse in quality and quantity, fans will buy Both versions And the dlcs with Pokémon they removed.
    Sims 4, a terrible way to sell a game but people bought those 35 dlc packs totalling up to £500 just to have an experience.
    Meanwhile, games like: Haven, State of Decay, Powerwash, Road 96, Firewatch, are killing it in quality.
    Last triple a game I purchased was RDR2 on a sale.. almost 2yrs ago.
    Last game before that, State of Decay 2 in 2018 for £26.

    Like I remember this dialogue Alloy wss having with a guy, and the guy was like "so you had over protective parents, huh?". Yea dude, these people live in tribes and need to scavange and hunt daily in order to survive, I'm sure they can totally relate to a concept such as "over protective parents".

      I feel like the big thing that separates these open worlds is the setting. Horizon and its giant robots and symbiotic machine interaction, ghost of tsushima with its incredible landscape and beautiful setting, days gone with hordes of zombies and so many more open world games with amazing potential but they all fall flat for the same reason - the world doesn't benefit from being open world.
      The writing often times is so bland and because the game is open world you can't make everything top tier in terms of written content. Aloy speaking to herself is so incredibly annoying xd I thought horizon zero dawn was half decent - a solid game but could have used so much refinement. After all the trailers and promos, I genuinely thought forbidden west would be the breath of the wild for Sony but it was just another 'hold my hand through the whole game' open world.
      Apart from the fantastic machines and engagements, everything is just plain boring.

      the setting really is great! but the biggest gripes I have are how all the immersion is killed by the writing - as you mentioned - and the constant marking of robots on the mini map. I know you can probably turn it off, but by default you should have that sense of 'holy shit what is that' when you encounter something that looks incredibly cool instead of being told 'oh yeah the slaughterspine is here btw'.

Now that they have financial growth from Elden Ring they are increasing their game output. If you have been playing since the ‘90s you’ve probably played every incantation of game there is. Half-Life was cutting edge when it came out and a decade later Halo came out and a new generation of gamers were shrieking “this is the best game ever” while I’m thinking this is derivative of Half-Life and not as good. If the first open world game you play is Horizon Forbidden West you are going to think it’s the best game ever, while those who played Horizon Zero Dawn are “well that’s more of the same, I’ll buy something else instead”. Style of game is limited innovation is what is required not churning out the same game over and over again.

    I see your points and I can't speak in live service games or Fps games since I'm not familiar with them but I have to disagree that open world games are the same because it is true that open world games have similar elements such as a map and traversal but those are made a necessity for navigation throughout the world in order to explore because not having those elements would make the games fundamentally flawed, as an example most 2D fighting games have similar elements like motion inputs, back dashing, damage scaling, and special moves which are a necessity for these games to play well but if they are removed they will cripple the gameplay because they are fundamentals factors for the genre which shows that it isn't a copy throughout each version but a pivotal part of the gameplay design for these games.
    We see a large number of open world games have their own distinguished combat and traversal such as Spider Man, Batman Arkham Knight, and Ghost of Tsushima which are all distinct from each other due to the combat of Spider Man and Batman following a sense of free flow even though both are distinct in their own way while Ghost of Tsushima is about precise parrying and attacks.
    I don't see a problem with sequels and remakes because they give the opportunity for developers to improve on the mechanics of the first game or bring a beloved game back with new graphics while also fans wanting to see these things also and using the example of us Dragon Ball fans wanting a remake of the Tenkaichi games that we loved growing up, a rerelease if Marvel vs Capcom 2, and fans looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima 2 which are just a few examples of fans wanting sequels and remakes to their franchises.

      i really don't want a Ghost of Tsushima 2. the original is my fav game of all time, and the reason i don't want a sequel is that i just don't know where the story would go. i'm sure the gameplay and graphics will be spectacular, but one of the reasons i love the original is its incredible narrative, and i just don't know where it could go.

    • @killdude4287
      @killdude4287 ปีที่แล้ว

      The point he's trying to say is most open world games either are way too big and just copy breath of the wild most of the time. He also states how sequels are a good thing but not to the extent of 6+ games which just ruins the experience

    • @kage1573
      @kage1573 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@killdude4287 I see what you're saying but I don't agree because even though open worlds follow a pattern, they are all distinct and offer their own elements that make them unique such as Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider Man, and Batman.
      A sequel should build on the foundation of what the first game had or improve on the flaws of the first game but if developers just try to build another foundation for a sequel in order to innovate it could lead to a lack of consistency or possibly discouraging fans who loved the mechanics of the first game which has been a problem for the Sonic franchise due to them having a great foundation that fans could enjoy but would drastically change things which would oftentimes leave fans confused or disappointed.

    • @barelyfanatical
      @barelyfanatical  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hey! there's a couple parts about your argument I want to address:
      'are you really that starved for new experiences that you can't consistently find games from the bajillion that's available?'
      well.. from the AAA space, yeah.
      in 2022 some of the AAA games we've had are Horizon Forbidden west, dying light 2, Pokémon legends arceus, ghostwire tokyo, stranger of paradise, Gotham knights, MH Rise: sunbreak, Splatoon 3, Babylon's fall, Xenoblade chronicles 3, elden ring and a remake for a game that's still pretty new (TLOU).
      The video says Nintendo and capcom some of the most consistent AAA developers (IMO), so I have no issues there. Forbidden west and dying light 2 weren't great, PLA was an okay time, ghostwire tokyo drags out quite a bit, and that leaves Babylon's fall, Gotham knights and FF origin.
      Elden ring was praised in the video for doing things differently.
      'there are games out there for pretty much every kind of player'
      the video does say the indie space is absolutely incredible - I'm not at all starved there.
      'these kinds of videos are pretty toxic and makes y'all sound selfish'
      I don't think I came across as toxic in the video - but to each their own.

    Graphics sir. Historically it all goes back to Hd and how much more expensive games got so developers stopped taking chances like they used to. That and all the easy points ppl discuss all the time about live service, loot boxes; remakes, blatant copying for success- all goes back to Hd and then 4k and graphics and the cost to take chances. For all the videos I've watched with these modern gaming complaints - I feel it's important for you TH-cam generation of kids to know why the industry got where it is now. Look at how many more developers we had before HD 360/ps3 hit- and that was the beginning of the end and originality and creativity (innovation) became a $ risk where it wasn't back in ps1/ps2 days. As you mentioned older games that innovated (Doom, Mario) that's why because back in the 90s and 00s developers could take risks and not bankrupt themselves.
    Good video I enjoyed it- but remember the nuances and subtle points also especially the ones that explain why everything is the way it is now.

Now I find myself not finishing stories on any game :D (Horizon, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed (actually very nice games, just after finishing 2 (Brotherhood and Odyssey) and Origins, Valhalla and Syndicate is left half played. Definition of "REPETITIVE") and even Witcher) I wouldn't say that they're bad games, but just eating same soup for entire week, it gets boring and even starts tasting like sh*t. Now best games to play are survival games (The Forest, Sons of the Forest, Green Hell, Windbound, Subnautica/Below Zero) which feel a lot more immersive and games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro (2033, Last Light, Exodus) and maybe RockStar games just cuz how polished they feel (Not the Remastered Trilogy).
