      I've been using the NUX for about 5 months and very happy. The only disappointing issue is I can't seem to get it to work with my Android phone(with adapters etc). No problems connecting to a PC but Android doesn't seem to work.
      I can connect other wireless systems to my phone but the NUX just doesn't seem to like phones.

    Hi. I've just bought this mic and wanted to check something with you. About the scene function ... according to my manual the settings are Green for Alto, Yellow for Tenor and Red for Soprano.

    G'day Nige.
    I've been a fan of your channel for some time, really enjoy your teaching and reviews.
    I made a review and play test video of the Nux B-6 in October so thought I'd share my experience of gigging with it.
    Overall it's a great mic, especially for small scale gigs, events etc. The key noise was noticeable at first, but I generally use an effects unit when gigging, so it's not much of a problem once you've tweaked your sound. In terms of connectivity, like all 2.4ghz wifi devices, it will depend on the environment, but generally I found the wireless connectivity far more stable compared to a top end Shure GLXD 14/Beta 98h.
    Not sure it will replace my AMT Wi-5 as my main gigging mic, especially for the higher-end work, but its an excellent alternative especially given it's form factor and portability.
    Hope this helps people out there!

      Thanks Pavan. Great to hear you’re using the NuxB-6 on gigs. I’ve been using it more since making this video and it is super quick and easy in studio. I quite like the more compressed sound too. Congrats on your channel too excellent videos on there.

    Since you mentioned that you haven’t had this mic long enough to do an in depth review of it, I quickly looked for other reviews to answer some further questions that I and other commenters have. My first question was the pre-set options: legit or gimmicky? What exactly does it enhance/eliminate? One reviewer played the alto (with and without enhancing) and switched it to all three settings. On alto, it of course sounded like an alto should. When he switched it to tenor, the sound of the alto darkened somewhat, similar to a tenor. But when he switched it to soprano, that’s where I noticed the biggest difference. The alto sounded buzzy/reedy. Not really a pleasant experience. Yet when he played the appropriate instrument with the proper setting, each instrument sounded as it should and the soprano sounded beautiful. Guess those settings are legit from what I can tell. He also mentioned that he has played it at a number of different venues and so far hasn’t had issues with interference in the 2.4G range nor cutting out if he strayed a little too far or went out of the direct line of sight. Would be interesting what you think, Nigel when you are able to spend a little more time with this mic. Thanks for the review!!

    Hi Nigel
    Great review as always.
    I got one of these and it is very good. I think people who use the Xvive IEM system need to know they won’t work together. I’ve tried using different channels in the Xvive and switching the NUX on when the other things are already on but no joy. Odd as the Sennheiser System runs on 2.4 ghz and works perfectly. Such a shame as this was a fantastic option for playing in other bands without my PA.

    Part 3 I have gigged it and it worked fine. You can get some crosstalk interference if the xvive and nux are very close but it worked great in normal use. I think some of my previous issues were also partly the sennheiser xsd system running too.

  • @Saxy_Tupz
    @Saxy_Tupz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The battery life isn’t too bad. In one week, I definitely got a solid 3 hour gig done with a couple 2 hour practices without charging any of the components, and only charging using the case. The battery died actually halfway through that second practice. I ended up buying another one just to have a backup. It sounds and works great for me because I’m getting into pedals too.
    I’d be really interested to see if they make updates to this model. The small buttons are my only issue.

    Thanks for the review Nigel. These type of reviews are great for those of us that can't test run all these products. Do you have any info on home recording set up. I don't have a problem with how to do it - I use mics, interface and Garageband. What I'm looking for is setting like EQ, compressors, reverb etc. Try as I might it seems my tenor sax recordings all sound more like a trumpet or, not sure if its the right word but "honky." There isn't a lot of info on the internet about recording horns in general or specifically tenor saxophones.

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Craig. Great question. I have some info on the actual setup here: saxschoolonline.com/articles/my-recording-setup/. For EQ / settings etc that’s a topic I would love to cover in another video. However the first step is to experiment with your mic position and think about the room or space you are recording in. I always think you should try and get the best sound possible just with those two variables. Effects or EQ are just a bonus on top of that.

    I Absolutely LOVE my NUX B6

  • @thomascordery7951
    @thomascordery7951 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Some useful features and a simple setup make this interesting. My immediate concerns have to do with the signal always having to go through one of three EQ presets, which seems a bit presumptive. If you happen to love the EQ for a specific sax that might be okay, but honestly I'd rather manage all the EQ through whichever sound reinforcement or recording system I'm playing through.
    The other concern I have about those EQ settings is that apparently when you turn it on, it won't necessarily be at the setting you left it in. So, unless the default is your preference you'll have to click through that little menu to get back to the one you want. That might be just a small annoyance EVERY BLOODY TIME you come back on stage after a break, but what about doing a quick change to sax from another instrument in the middle of a tune? So to me, unless the default EQ is acceptable, this would be a deal breaker.
    With that in mind, my question for NUX would be which of these settings gives the flattest response? For my use I'd prefer to know that it has a decently flat setting as the default so I could just ignore the feature. Otherwise it's just one more thing to fuss with each time you pick up the instrument.
    I wish any music shop near me stocked it so I could check it out and answer those questions for myself, but it doesn't seem that selling through brick-and-mortar shops is any part of the NUX business model.

    Hi Nigel, have you tried some thin neoprene to isolate the mic from the sax further? Can you try it with other wireless stuff around it as the manual says stay away from mobile phones and other wifi stuff. I had a wifi based mixer but it suffered a lot at gigs as mobile phones in the room would make it crash. This looks good for home though to cut down on the wires.
    Do they offer a repair service because these batteries can sometimes have a short life depending on how much or little charging they get and most times it’s not a user replaceable battery.
    The manual says up to 7hrs battery life so it should do one gig.. I carry a power tool battery with a USB adaptor that lets me power mics for days.. good review though let’s see what you think after a few real world outings.

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool

    Thanks Nigel, very helpful, so much so l have bought one. Do you have any advice on where to place the microphone on the bell of the sax? When using it on my Alto and placing the instrument on my Hercules sax stand, I must say it did not seem very secure. Did you spot this?

  • @NicelyJohnson
    @NicelyJohnson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ok part two. It’s distance. You CANNOT use the Xvive transmitter next to the NUX receiver. As long as there’s a foot or so it’s fine. I used a 1/2 metre cable and placed the Xvive transmitter in the end and interference has stopped. If it’s ok I’ll gig it and do a short part Three.

    • @thomascordery7951
      @thomascordery7951 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts are, that depends on whether the EQ presets are acceptable for your trumpet sound. To that end, having no EQ settings, or at least a flat setting as the default on power up, could actually make this a much more flexible product, IMO at least.

  • @guywithdogs
    @guywithdogs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you try it on bari sax? There are the three settings for soprano/alto/tenor. Web site doesn't mention bari. Wondering about that, and whether you could have two on same link for doublers so you're not trying to move the device between horns live. Maybe that's expecting a lot from a low cost device.

    What is the process and the logistic of using this mic on a festival stage? How do you sort it out with the sound engineering people? Do they plug the receiver in their mix board or at the end of a cable on the stage? I am interested in the details of how you handle these situations?

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question. This probably isn’t the best mic to use for a large festival where there are loads of other wireless systems running. I’d suggest a pro level wireless system for that. However ina large stage you could either plug the receiver into the mixing desk, or often there will be an xlr cable for you on the stage which you could connect the receiver to.

    Great video McGill. My main concerns with this microphone will be the lack of a mute button (when you are running some scales on a new key before belting out loud), and the absence of a volume control. I know you can rely on a mixer for the volume control but I find that for gigs and events like playing at churches, it is much better to have complete control over your own sound. I use the Boss Ve20 to connect my wireless microphones. The best work-around i can see is to use the vocal processor as an impromptu volume control but this will get quite frustrating with recurrent use.

    I got it based on this review but there are two issues I am running into. 1- it is "super hot", I have to turn the input bias on my UR 22 to just above zero, otherwise it saturates, this makes it very difficult to find a decent volume setting. 2 - it keeps cutting out and that appears to be related to the EQ setting, it is worst on the tenor setting and not as bad on the alto and soprano setting.
    This could be an issue with the specific unit I have but it's going back - unfortunately. as it is, it useless because it sounds like having a broken cable. I'll follow up if I can resolve this.

    • @Unbekannt12

      Ok, I finally figured it out, there were two issues, my desk lamp uses an LED light bulb which interfered (swapping the bulb for a different type fixed some of the cut outs and the second issue was interference from my WiFi router. It's still "hot" but the cutting out went away. Thought I share because I am sure some others will run into similar issues.

    So, the big issue is interference. 2.4ghz band is being used by a lot of things. How do you change the channel? Can you change the channel? How many channels does it have? Seems like 3 (tenor alto and soprano channels?)
    Example…..so I have a 5ghz wireless transmitter for my EWI. Works great…..except when it interferes with my iPad which is controlling the wireless mixer. Totally kills the WiFi connection to the mixer if I’m like next to the iPad.
    I think more attention needs to be given to considering how much stuff is on the 2.4ghz range and how these things would perform with other things on that band (say your guitarist who has a wireless system at 2.4ghz)

      Great point Eric. I haven’t tested it in a live setting. If you’re playing solo this probably wouldn’t be an issue though.

    So no gain adjustment in the system? Just one channel?

    • @saxymike58
      @saxymike58 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't find anything about gain in the manual, but the manufacturer has developed the system for saxophone, so I assume they have adjusted the gain for this instrument. Seems they use the automatic frequency hopping in these frequency range, because the manual says you can use up to 6 systems simultaneously.

    Lovely review. I love the microphone.
    I wish someone will gift me with the microphone and send it to Nigeria.

    Superb audio but completely idiotic features. Both the mic and receiver will automatically shut off if left without a signal going through for 10 minutes...........if your sax player plays other instruments this will be an issue.......completely stupid feature considering the unit has a 7 hour operating time on a full charge. BUT the worst is that the BUTTON that turns the receiver on is on the side of the unit and if you have it plugged into your mixing console with other instruments you can get your finger in between them to turn it back on.......so you have to unplugg the receiver to turn it back on and then plug it back in your mixer............just idiotic.

    Another mediocre Chinese mic. I live in China and you can get one for around 140 bucks here. A friend of mine bought it, then sent it back the next day :)
