    When you first turned that on, I thought the motor was toast - shorted armature. I'm amazed to be honest that it ran like it did after you lubed the bearings and replaced the brushes. Wouldnt have been long though had it been run further on the old brushes till the motor stopped running altogether, so yes, I think you saved it in time.

    My Grans Red/Black HVC 200 (the original one without the cord rewind) has a moulded plug from new, which is ~1987 ish going by the serial number on the motor, it's obviously older as it has the square ratings plate on the back rather than a semi-circular one underneath the handle, and the lack of cord real, obviously. It also does have foam sound deadening but it's very crumbly.
    Also talking old numatic, the word numatic is still visible on the old Numatic factory in Beaminster on older streetview images.

    I’ve got the same problems with this “RIFA” suppressors on my Electrolux vacuum cleaners. A day ago I had a lot of smoke in my room when I used my Electrolux D725.

    • @dglcomputers1498
      @dglcomputers1498 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ALL RIFA's do that, and it many, many different pieces/types of equipment. Iirc it is due to the fact they are paper based and moisture seeps in, they can be replaced with the correct Polypropylene? capacitors like Numatic now use. Best to add a suitably rated bleed resistor across the replacement capacitor (if there is not an internal one) to stop any chance of being zapped by the plug from teh charged capacitor.

    • @dglcomputers1498
      @dglcomputers1498 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Numatic Fan08 Could but it's not advised to do so, it's there for a reason and is still there on the latest machines for that same reason.
      Modern polyester capacitors do not fail like the old paper based ones anyway.

    • @dglcomputers1498
      @dglcomputers1498 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Numatic Fan08 The newer ones shouldn't blow in normal use, the older ones did because they absorbed moisture (being paper based) and would short, it's a know problem throughout vintage electronics and it's always a replace with a plastic capacitor fix.
      Personally I've never had a modern numatic blow it's X2 capacitor and we have quiet a few of them at work (40+)

    Henry was red before he was cream and brown I have to say- Henry as we know it came out in around 1981, in Red/Black, cream & brown didn’t appear until the late 80s, and ran alongside the red, just as another colour option

    I thought if the suppressor blew it wouldn’t go at all, or are some vacuums wired up differently so they will?

    • @dglcomputers1498
      @dglcomputers1498 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not on these, it's across the live and neutral and as such apart from going bang it will still work, my grans had most certainly blown when I replaced it with a far superior Panasonic polyester equivalent that shouldn't blow.

    • @a.a674
      @a.a674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends how its wired,as DGLcomputers said,in numatics the supressor is parallel so the motor will still go.In some other machines,its in series so motor cant get electricity to it before it goed through the supressor and therefore doesnt work
