Phillips I remember this song from my early teens,I didn't know it was a wings tune for 30 + years,I searched it on u tube only knowing 1985 was part of the tune.It was always a favorite
piano John, Absolutely the best piano tutorials on TH-cam. Kudos'! I've been a full time player for 38yrs and you have saved me hours of "lifting time" with your video's. Again, the best John. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial. McCartney's piano pieces are just as much fun to play as his bass lines. I see he likes doing the octaves thing with the pinky and the thumb on the left hand a lot. A very easy, but yet effective trick.
Great tutorial. You know, in addition to being a terrific bass player and quite competent guitarist, McCartney was underrated on piano; the way he crafted melodies on the piano, in particular. Not the complexity of his piano, necessarily, but chord progressions and nuances. Take this song, for instance, or "Lady Madonna." Just neat stuff.
It will definitely take me a few dozen times to get through the entire song, but never mind the bullocks. You are much appreciated for your stellar tutorial.
Great one, John. When I was searching a tutorial for this song a few months ago, you were the first I looked for, but you didn't have it yet. So I had to learn from someone else, but I got to tell you, there's no such teacher like you! Thanks so much for this one!
I've probably read 50 music books. The best book I have found is called "Practical Theory Complete" by Sandy Feldstein. You have to know what "smooth voice leading" means. She shows you all this in the book. They used this book at a community college, but I read it on my own. There are 84 lessons on 96 pages. I play piano just by reading chord names and not individual notes. The best news is the book only cost $11.00 in 1998. Smooth voice leading makes your chords not sound so choppy. Good Luck. God Bless You. My brother relearned the guitar when he was 60 year old and within two years was playing before live audiences.
Yes. You're in the right place to learn something great, and you're the perfect age to know what rock music is supposed to be. Watch the video closely, listen to Paul Mc Cartney playing it, sit down at your piano and work on it. No matter how many days you spend not quite getting it right, keep trying and one day it will sound good to you. I'm 59 and just started learning piano this year. It's starting to work, and it feels like bringing new life to the music I love and to my tired old bones. Just keep at it.
thank you for teaching all of us who dont know how to play! I want to learn where all the notes/keys are and practice scales and so on first. I hope to learn and play this whole song flawlessely before I die. I use to type 78 words/pmin. back in high school. I believe it is the"practice makes perfect" attitude, proper fingers for certan keys thanks again!
"I play this is the right hand because... well that's what it is." Hahaha these videos are extremely helpful man! Thanks so much for dedicating your time to this. Keep up the great work!
John I like to say thank you for this video. Before you uploaded this video I taught me this song on my own without any help [only hearing]. But because of you [your video] I can correct any faults. Thank you one more time. I hope you understand my English if you read this text. :)
that part when you play Ab and Cm starting 'bout 1:05; sounds also good when play higher chords after them. your tutorials have been very helpful, thank you :D
I love you John! (In a good way ;) Thanks, thanks a lot for this song! I`ve been looking for it for so long! And you`ve been my piano teacher as well for so so long!
Hey John, Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos! I understand you probably have lots of requests, but it would be so cool if you could do a tutorial for Cry Baby Cry from the White Album! Thanks again so much!
Do you know any good beatles or solo beatles songs that are a little easy, but impressive at the same time? I want to impress my friends, but I'm not super pro at piano lol.
Thanks as always a great lesson!! One note though: Don't you hear a final Piccardy Third ending--one last stab on C major after the minor? McCartney seems to get so much mileage out of major/minor changes on the same root note.
Do you mean on the orchestral part? I'll have to listen again, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did, as Paul enjoyed throwing in those little extras wherever he could.
Tx much again, I think Left part of my brain os off , can not do sync with the Right. Can anybody help me to understand timing on the verse, is it: #1. L - R - R - L or #2. L - R - R,L ? Or maybe somebody can point me to slower motion of this song.. Tx much all
I like it very much, I've suscribed to your channel, as the tutorial is really GREAT. Simply, I miss sometimes the help of having the notes printed over the video, I'm quite newbie and take me one or two months to learn a single song. Anyway is really GREAT. Congratulations!!! P.S.: just as a sugestion, i like very much heaven on thei minds form J.C. Superstar...
This is like the first song I've ever attempted to learn, don't play keyboard/piano at all but do play drums bass and guitar, wanted to learn this song and keyboard/piano, is it normal that I'm finding playing both left and right hand together difficult to do? Apart from that I can basically play both parts separate - will together come in time with practise I take it?
+pianojohn113 I think I have the main parts of the song locked down except the part before the repeat, but I'm going to keep practicing until I can play it whilst singing
hey John I learned this song including a few others from your channel! thank you for helping me develop far beyond I could have imagined when I started ☺ I have a video on my channel any feedback would be great
You're a master in the piano, I didn't know how to play the piano, but I learned songs by your tutorials. Can you make a tutorial for "Wanderlust" or "Let Em' In"? Both by Paul McCartney, I didn't find complete tutorials of both
What a shame! I'm certainly using a Mac, so this is the reasons, then. I can se some of the notes, but not the others. No idea why. Anyway, the tutorial is vey useful and well explained, and when I don't have the notes , i hear carefully, stop the video and try for the perfect combination. Thanks again, I promise I'll finish learning, as many other songs...
I just started learning, and having great fun with this song, but that c chord at the end, how on earth do you manage to play the chord and octave together? I can't get my fingers to stretch that far!
You can slow down the speed of the video! When this video was uploaded TH-cam only allowed 10 minutes videos, that's way pianojohn always seems to be on cocaine!
How Paul came up with that tune is beyond my imagination. Thought I was the only person that loved that song. Thank you sir.
It's one of Paul's best. Glad you liked the vid. :-)
HES STILL ALIVE, BRUH WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
Phillips I remember this song from my early teens,I didn't know it was a wings tune for 30 + years,I searched it on u tube only knowing 1985 was part of the tune.It was always a favorite
Best X-planation. I'm noob & I understood.@@pianojohn113
I bought the album with one of my first wages and played it a lot during 1985 - but no one around me seemed to notice "Look it's '1985' !"
piano John,
Absolutely the best piano tutorials on TH-cam.
Paul has his own unique piano style, and being left-handed, and a bass player, I think he was better at those lower notes than many regular pianists.
Pat McCann Haha
Kevin Corcoran Solid drummer too
It will definitely take me a few dozen times to get through the entire song, but never mind the bullocks. You are much appreciated for your stellar tutorial.

I love this song of Paul Mccartney!!! But this tutorial is awesome, sounds like the original 💞💞
I appreciate the kind words, thanks!

Muchas gracias por esta lección...muy didáctica, entretenida y dinámica...felicitaciones!!!..,excelente!!!
I've been loving this song from the time it released. Perfect analysis from you, so I'll try it as guitar player who plays some songs on the piano.
Excellent, no pompous talk and easy to understand

just started piano and want to tackle some of my faves like this one. might be beyond my skill level yet, but very helpful.
very well done.
Thanks, thanks, thanks and thanks again, pianojohn. You make easy the most complicated song. Fantastic tutorial. Greetings from Spain!
I just started to play piano I'm 58 any suggestions

Ob-la-di ob-la-da is great for piano
It's been 5 years and you're 63 now, how's the piano coming along?
Keep at it and be patient.
Got it! thanks for the great lesson. Can't stop playing it now. :-D
Glad it worked for you, enjoy!

I normally need sheet music, these music tutorials dont do it but this one is SO EASY to follow thank you!!
thank you for teaching all of us who dont know how to play! I want to learn where all the notes/keys are and practice scales and so on first. Wish youtube existed when I was 16
Bro I just hope you come up with more tutorials in the future !
Vous êtes un excellent professeur dommage que vous avez arrêter...Je vous admire beaucoup...merci.

You're entirely welcome, enjoy!
You're the best, thank you for this breakdown!
Brilliant composition!
that part when you play Ab and Cm starting 'bout 1:05; sounds also good when play higher chords after them.
your tutorials have been very helpful, thank you :D
I'd love to see more Band on the Run stuff. What a great album. Thanks for the tutorial! :)
Why, this is rock and/or roll music! 0_0 Seriously though, I love this. Thank you for the good tutorial on some music that I'm going to love playing.
This does sound like rock and/or roll, doesn't it? Glad you like the vid, thanks. :-)
Excellent John! Thank you.
I've been waiting for this one. Nice video quality
Sweet octaves. Great tension and resolution.
I love you John! (In a good way ;) Thanks, thanks a lot for this song! I`ve been looking for it for so long! And you`ve been my piano teacher as well for so so long!
This is such a good tutorial, pianojohn.
Thanks, Lee, I'm glad you liked it. :-)
Great you began uploading again.
Great! thanks for all your videos, they are very very useful and clear!
Cheers from Argentina ✌
I'm very glad you like them, my friend. Greetings to you in Argentina!
2020 and it's still great!
Awesome tutorials, thank you very much!
Requesting Lunch Box/Odd Soxx howto!
piano john is the man!
Hey John,
Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos! I understand you probably have lots of requests, but it would be so cool if you could do a tutorial for Cry Baby Cry from the White Album! Thanks again so much!
If you watch Paul play this song on the Jools Holland show you can see he plays the bridge part slightly different.
This is the version that was on the original recording in the 70s.
Eric Blair Paul plays a lot of his songs a little different live, on bass, at least.
This is a piano tutorial. This is different from how Paul actually plays it.
Do you know any good beatles or solo beatles songs that are a little easy, but impressive at the same time? I want to impress my friends, but I'm not super pro at piano lol.
Great teacher
Thanks John, but was also wondering if you could produce some tutorials by the artist Supertramp, i think everyone would enjoy it, especially me!
Thanks, I hope that you'll make a tutorial. I'm 13 years old, and I learned 15 songs in your tutorials, thanks (:
Are you 20 now?
Awesome job! 👍🏼
You're a godsend
Love your channel :) Thank you so much!
Jeff Roberts I play bass and just started playing piano. Playing a lot of his Beatles bass lines, he does sneak in a lot of little fillers!
These are great!
Do you think you’re going to make more stuff?
🤨
Keep practicing 😌I just turned 61 on 9 -9.I started practice 2 yrs. ago come November.
Just practice practice practice...them practice some more.
Awesome tutorial as always. Could you please do a tutorial for Dear Friend by Paul McCartney? Can't find any lessons for it on youtube.
Very helpful! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, Lily. :-)
Can you do a tutorial for Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
thank you man i love it
Again, as I've mentioned in other videos.... this is excellent!!! Can you do "you give me the answer"?
Tx much again, I think Left part of my brain os off , can not do sync with the Right. Can anybody help me to understand timing on the verse, is it: #1. L - R - R - L or #2. L - R - R,L ? Or maybe somebody can point me to slower motion of this song.. Tx much all
It’s #2 L R L R L
I like it very much, I've suscribed to your channel, as the tutorial is really GREAT.
Simply, I miss sometimes the help of having the notes printed over the video, I'm quite newbie and take me one or two months to learn a single song.
Anyway is really GREAT. Congratulations!!!
P.S.: just as a sugestion, i like very much heaven on thei minds form J.C. Superstar...
That was excellent! I stink and I still got it! i can't thank you enough.
thanksssssss

I think that the last chord is a C not a Cm
DUDE! This is pretty cool but you missed the picardy 3rd at the end: it ends on a Cmajor chord which is how he brings Band On The Run to fade out.
THANK YOU SO OOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!
Awesome
nice!
hey John I learned this song including a few others from your channel! thank you for helping me develop far beyond I could have imagined when I started ☺ I have a video on my channel any feedback would be great
+Piano Pat Happy to help you out, Piano Pat! I'll take a look at your video. :-)
You're a master in the piano, I didn't know how to play the piano, but I learned songs by your tutorials. Can you make a tutorial for "Wanderlust" or "Let Em' In"? Both by Paul McCartney, I didn't find complete tutorials of both
Great, thanks
Do "Lady Madonna" please.
Good teacher.
Thank you!
Vous êtes le meilleur !
Nice... new camera eh?
hey john for the jiggy wiggy part you sure it's not c octaves on the right?
I wish piano john was my piano teacher..
I guess he is but he can't yell at me when mess up. That would be an honor.
Let em in ? But the whole song ? I hope you could do that..
You should do a tutorial for Beautiful Night :)
Can you map that on paper?
Thank you very much! one more subscribe for you! help a lot!
salute from Brazil!
You. should have your DNA in the Smithsonian catalog under genius.
Octopus's garden please!
I love you
Danny lane co wrote this song with McCartney, I believe its only right to give Danny some credit also.
Denny Lane
He didn’t on this song, Denny only co-wrote “No Words” on the album.
Definitely starts on C buddy. Cm first then Eb, gosh!
you are a penis
Wrong. This guy nails it note for note.
Yes, the intro starts with C, but the tutorial starts with the first verse. He plays the intro later, and he also mentions that the intro starts in C.
I just started learning, and having great fun with this song, but that c chord at the end, how on earth do you manage to play the chord and octave together? I can't get my fingers to stretch that far!
Que yuca, no la aconsejo para principiantes xd. Pero gracias, está bien explicada a pesar de estar en otro idioma xD
Do you just know every single piano song lol
This song is a bitch, but this is a great tutorial as im trying to adapt it, somehow, onto a guitar. THANKS!
Maybe just slow it a bit of the EFF down for us neophites, maybe?
You can slow down the speed of the video! When this video was uploaded TH-cam only allowed 10 minutes videos, that's way pianojohn always seems to be on cocaine!
You actually end on a sea major and going to band on the run. Just sayin’!
Im not the biggest fan of pauls solo career, but damn I love this song.
Sanction the accords! And keys
