I think this was a perfectly respectable performance. I'm a violinist, and I've played the orchestral accompaniment for this aria a few times in my life. But most of the time, I'm just your average listener who loves this opera. I would pay admission for this performance. It was quite enjoyable, even if not perfect. Plus, it takes guts to put yourself out there like this on such a difficult piece. So I applaud you! Thank you for posting! Edit: spelling errors
This is one of the most accurate and clear versions I've heard of this aria, she's exceptionally good. Sometimes precision can be as intense as sheer volume. She lives it too, which helps. Brava!
Pauline, your musicians and your conductor seem very happy with your wonderful singing - your audience is also very happy with you - and most of the comments under your video here are very impressed with you - as for the haters - haters hate - that's what they do - their hate has nothing to do with you. Thank you for sharing your wonderful singing with the world.
OMG, some of you here are insufferable. Her voice is incredibly clear, the agility is here, certainly could use slightly more work but this aria is very difficult and any singer struggles to sing it. Also who the hell cares it's for "dramatic" soprano? So what? It is forbidden for any light soprano to perform it? We are gatekeeping arias now? Stop it. That performance was beautiful.
I thought music was based on vocal range. If you have the range to sing something, then go for it. But I don't think someone who sings baritone is going to attempt something composed for counter-tenor, not because someone is gate keeping it.
Thanks for this excellent performance Mozart is so uniquely brilliant that I have seen and heard parrots sing this aria - it is as though they felt that they just had to learn it.
Thank you so much Pauline, I’m overwhelmed by your incredibly talented voice and you’re amazing too. You sing with such great passion and grace and elegance too I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too
Gracias
I know this opera was not written for ordinary people like me, but hey, times have changed :) I have an opinion after tasting this performance over and over. I also listened and compared with all other performances of this part in You tube and found Pauline's is the very best and captured me in the scene, even tough she performed this part only. I felt like the Queen portrayed as a jealous and narcissistic character in the opera which seems not quite match of Pauline's jests and look, that is the only part I felt bit off but when I closed my eyes I was in the scene, feeling the wrath of the queen as she was mother. Thank you Ma'am.
I think that we all need to gradually come to accept that Mozart probably did not have Edda Moser in mind when he composed this. Agility, precision and range were clearly what he favoured in his high-pitched, agile sopranos, and the qualities he exploited in most of his prima donnas from Mitridate and Lucio Silla to Die Zauberflöte. When he wanted a big, dramatic voice, he wrote for it: e.g. Electra in Idomeneo and Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito. Indeed, the ‘prettiness’ of the melodies given to the Queen may have been an intentional effect, highlighting her seductive deceit and cold intentions. A light voice works perfectly well for the Queen, and often much better than a singer with a deeper voice made to strain and screech. See what happened to Damrau’s voice - impactful performance, bad technique, short-lived voice. Not to mention that current perceptions about the “Dramatic” and what it looks/sounds like cannot be assumed to not have been influenced by tendencies developed in the 19th and 20th centuries. This is not to say that Moser and Damrau are not fine too, but that standards should perhaps be better placed on technical ability rather than just the colour of a singer’s voice.
For some context which makes this even more scary than it already is. The Queen of the Night represents the Empress of Austria-Hungary and her daughter the people. As the people are cursed so were the people. A curse that lasted until the death of the most infamous Austrian of all on the 30th of April 1945.
For a bit more context, the Queen is commanding her daughter to kill the leader of the secret society criminal cartels - the daughter refused - which results in the horror now going on in Europe, the UK, the usa, canada, australia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, India, China, Russia, South Asia, the Pacific Islands and so on.
Also in context, I'm an opera singer - this is one of my arias - I sing in ten languages with a repertoire of over 50 arias composed by Mozart, Puccini, Bellini, Rossini, Verdi, Vivaldi and dozens of other composer. I've written two operas, over a dozen musicals and over 1,000 songs - and some other stuff - which includes uploading "educational" videos onto my youtube channel.
Lots of talent and potential and even though maybe the voice still has to mature a little bit, this performance was very musical. Queen of the night is quite a complex character and it takes many years to get that complexity under your belt, but the potential is there, Keep working at it and you will grow into the role. Brava. Keep going and believe in yourself, you'll be great.
I agree. She should be careful... 🙏🏻 I hear and feel tension and a lack of space. Just because there is a range doesn't mean it should be used for any purpose. More relaxed care needed. 🙏🏻
Nailed it. Her voice type is too light. She sounds like a soubrette. Not even close to a dramatic coloratura soprano. I don’t know why soubrettes and light lyrics think they should do this because it’s not a role that is suited for them. It would be the equivalent of me singing the Doll Aria from Tales of Hoffman. I saw this happen at an international competition: a girl who was a light lyric did the Doll Aria and then the Queen of the Nights first Aria. It was a total disaster. Also, Sarastro is not pronounced with a Z but with an S.
Basilique is a place where romans used to gather around, for social events (non related to religion), when Christianity came they have to use these places as religious places to gather people, so no, it was not build in original idea as a place for god, so shut up your mouth ignorant.

Her immeasurable profound soprano is absolutely amazing, inspirational and beyond description and off the charts

Just amazing; poised and accurate in Mozart's most sadistic aria for a soprano.
I love period performances! I think it brings the best out of Mozart! ❤

So clear and pure like a crystal.
Stunning. Outstanding performance.
To all those who have criticised this singer - could you do it any better?
Diana Damrau already did it!!!🎉
We are here to hear, not to sing.

her voice is a little to soft, but she hits the notes for sure.
You seduce people with such a voice
Orqwezta
This is a Blonde, Queen of the Night is for a dramatic coloratura.
I’m not German but doesn’t she mispronounce some words?
No, this is one of the best pronouciations of "Der Höllen Rache" on the internet. Its very, very well and clear sung.
Super talented, yet as equally annoying!
Vibrato not strong enough. Missed the first high note. Voice will maybe mature. Area and role not suitable for the voice currently.
I agree. She should be careful... 🙏🏻 I hear and feel tension and a lack of space. Just because there is a range doesn't mean it should be used for any purpose. More relaxed care needed. 🙏🏻
@d.j.rosscarpediem921 Your opinion is 🤮
What is a strong vibrato? 😂
Yes wrong voice for this role.

Nothing good about turning a house of God into a theater

Leider zu starke „Quintenschaukel“. Das passt stilistisch nicht zu Mozart. Sonst ganz nett.
Meravigliosa....
