    A long sheepskin with fur on the bottom is quite cushioning. The longer and denser the fur, the better padding it is

    Dude these videos are like a miracle, I’ve been looking at outback’s and making sure I’d be happy with car camping in them and these videos help so much with coming up with a super simple and efficient design I’d end up using

    I too camp and sleep in my Outback (2020 Onyx)! For sleeping, i use an Exped Megamat sleeping pad; super comfy. And although I use a single, I’ve seen other bloggers say the Duo, at 42”, fits perfectly between the wheels. During colder months, I’ll use a heated mattress pad (plugged into my GoalZero) under the Exped; as heat rises it keeps me toasty. During warmer months, I’ll leave the rear hatch open but “enclose” the area with bug netting as well as place mesh covers over the rear windows; the circulating air helps keep me cool. But yes, an Outback is AWESOME for car camping!

      Curious to know if the Xped Mega Mat is durable enough if you have a cat with nails? Maybe there is a durable shell that protects it from pets.

    • @xanadujones9851

      @@briantodd4887 I don’t think it would not get punctured if your cat used his nails; maybe get a cheap sleeping pad to lay on top? That way any abuse will be absorbed by that one leaving the exped unscathed.

    I just did this last month, On a whim for my vacation I took a road trip from TX to UT and CA and back to TX. My 2024 Outback Touring XT was very comfortable. I would do it again without question.

    My 2012 Toyota Venza is very similar to the Subaru Outback. I have been living in it for over a year and a half and find it VERY pleasurable and comfortable. Only a minivan might be better, but I like the stationwagon type of vehicle. Tightly taping garbage bags to all windows behind the front seats works extremely well for privacy.

    At my age and arthritis, when I’m “roughing it”, I’m in a Motel 6.
    Both our Outback and Forester are awesome vehicles that go anywhere we want to go, on or off road.
    There are times when we do some serious off roading, so that’s when we take our 4X4 pickup.
    We’ve taken our Forester into and out of places that my previous RAV 4WD couldn’t go.

      what kind of 4X4 pickup do you have? I really love the look/size of a Forester, hope to maybe get one some day!

      @@talesfromtheoutback 11 Ford Ranger 4X4 with a 4.0L V6.
      The Forester will be redesigned in 24, as a 25 year model. It will be available with the Rav / Venza hybrid system.
      I’ll sell my 19 Forester Touring and buy the new hybrid.

    I slept in the back of my 2021 Outback very comfortably, no problem what so ever. Looking forward to sleeping in the back of my now 2024 Outback Wilderness.

    with my experience, if you want to sleep comfortably in the OB, it means less stuff inside. I store most of my stuff on my roof rack and use the Exped megaMat duo 10 reg which fits perfectly in the OB/OBW. It's pricey for sure, but to me it means a lot. I'm almost 5'10" and fit pretty well back there + my kid if he's tagging along. Sliding is an issues too since the back seats don't fold down completely flush. For that I use leveling blocks for the rear wheels if I'm parked at a leveled ground.

      I’m paraplegic and have slept in the back of my 2006 Liberty wagon and 2023 outback.
      Depending on your level of injury and ability, the newer outback is a fantastic car, but I find transferring up into the boot of the outback a bit of a struggle. I’m 5’4. I also had less headroom in the outback than the older Liberty.
      Unfortunately my old Liberty was a GT tuned by sti and was super low to the ground, so driving off-road was limited and the reason I got the outback in the first place.
      I’ve now got a box trailer my mate is setting up for me to haul my scooter for better camping mobility, and we’re rigging it up so that I can sleep in it also

    I just got a new to me 2022 Outback Wilderness (lease turn-in). I am a long time tent camper, but I do plan on giving car camping in it a try with a thick thermarest pad. My question is does condensation and fresh air become a problem at night, and how do you deal with it? Oh, and yes, I've subscribed.

    • @talesfromtheoutback
      @talesfromtheoutback  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's been some issues with condensation, but nothing too bad. I like to open the sunroof a little ways to get some air moving through the car and keep a couple of USB-powered fans with me and that helps a lot with condensation. I think the key is to get a good fan to keep air moving through the car. I don't like having the windows down during the night but that could be an option too (depending on where you're staying)
      And thank you for watching and subscribing!!!

    New to me 2014 OB Limited. Just getting it all together for kayaking and camping. How do I level the slant between head and feet? It does not go fully flat. I do not want to have a built platform. What is simple, yet eases the difference between the front and rear of the sleeping surface? Layers of blankets? suggestions anyone?

    Hi, I’m quite new in car camping 🏕️ I am just wondering what sort of experience of that would be ? Like how does the car ventilation work with the car turning off ? How does the car behave locking it with a person still inside ?

  • @gohan2355
    @gohan2355 ปีที่แล้ว

    The main thing about his outback is that it's a wilderness so that's a major thing if you sleep in your car out in the woods you have the ground clearance for it
