hey Dino I got that universal VM 36 carb installed on my 78 RM400, YEA it can idle!! jetting is good enough (at least as good as it was with the orig, a bit rich on the top, but that just keeps me out of trouble).
My favorite of 35 bikes! That ''Rat-tat-tat'' idle is awesome!

try moving the clip on your jet needle up one groove. that may help. if it doesn't you may to go down one size on your main jet
