  • Our visit to Boesmansriviermond was a truly enchanting experience. As we made our way into the town, the road welcomed us with a breathtaking sight of majestic trees standing proudly on either side. Arriving at the river mouth, we were instantly captivated by the sheer beauty that surrounded us. The lush greenery and vibrant plant life embraced the river mouth and adorned the sandy dunes, creating a picturesque scene. The river mouth itself was a sight to behold, with its crystal-clear blue water gracefully merging with the vastness of the Indian Ocean. Climbing up the sand dunes, we were transported to another world, greeted by an expansive landscape of sand and sea that left us in awe. Driving through the streets, we were charmed by the sight of charming houses, their well-tended gardens filled with lush greenery and towering trees. Boesmansriviermond truly offered a spectacle of nature's splendor, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #boesmansriviermond

    Hi you two! Thank you for taking me along. This was really fascinating. One can hardly believe that such greenery and wonderful indigenous plant life can be all over a town. The place is clearly well planned and kept. The beaches and the river are equally exceptional.
    Your drone views and music was wonderful again -- showing how everything fits together. Thank you for the background information Sonia, history always completes the picture.

The music had to be dramatic to befit such a wonder of nature! 😁🎶 This was a great visit to a place we've heard about so many times before! You'll love the next one just as much, I think ... and hope! 🤩

    Another absolutely marvellous start to my day - as you repeatedly stated, those trees were truly magnificent! I found them just as mesmerising, Sonia! And with so much lush greenery every-which-way we turned, it seemed unbelievable that they have been in a drought - clearly, recent rains had fallen though, judging by the lovely road puddles in evidence. I, too, was delightfully impressed by their Reverse Osmosis treatment works and the care taken to preserve their environment with its abundant flora and fauna.
    The three churches we visited/saw were so lovely - clearly loved by their respective congregants.
    Such interesting snippets of history you shared, too - I also found it rather amazing that they only received electricity in the 1980s. Potable water, perhaps not quite so surprising?
    The town has clearly exploded since then, I’d imagine. It’s a very beautiful place and I’m so grateful to you both for having shown it to us. Your drone footage and the accompanying music was quite spectacular, Curtis! I loved the drama of it all - simply perfect!

      The trees, the trees, the trees! 🌳💚 Our eyes were green by the time we left Boesmansriviermond! Wow! Those trees!!!Love the Cape Dutch artwork on the DR church, its so amazing. Always glad to see a Voortrekker monument, our people should be remembered. Wie sou nou dink daai stukkie kus sou so dodelik wees! It all looks sooooo peaceful and innocent. I am sure many artists have already painted that scene of the mouth. Its just so paintable!! So amazing that they have a desalination plant. I think its the way of the future, with all the climate change. If Dubai can do it , so can we. Just a bit of better budget planning, ne! Nice bit of exercise for you, Curtis, I dont think I could do that with my knee. Osteoarthritis is a bitch! But that view!! Total amazeballs!!! What a beautiful church! Love the stained glass. Oooh! How did you stop yourself giving the bellrope a tug? The Catholic church is also very beautiful. So lovely that you do a church round.

      Good afternoon to you from a very chilly South Africa! 🥶🇿🇦 The town is very old, so it's very possible that the wooden cross comes from another church. We can't find anything online pointing to that though, so I'm not sure. ✝️💒 The beach with the horses was just special to see and worth the little pangs I felt in the left knee afterwards! 😁🦵🏼 Enjoy your great weather! ☀️

  • @sicko_the_ew
    @sicko_the_ew ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Now that's more like it! (I mean the extension of Addo Elephant National Park. The country needs _much_ more of this. (Existing property owners - apart from those sitting tight on a piece of undeveloped land, waiting for a sucker, who don't matter - would benefit from a boost in property values by making their places relatively scarcer, by not letting any more to be built.)
    Now just imagine the whole coast in that Addo state. Wow! How beautiful! (And with enough of that bush you could bring in elephants to prune it their own way, even. Imagine elephant back in the dunes.)

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was fantastic to see such dense vegetation remaining in a town, so we echo your sentiment. The more conservation areas we see in between the developments us humans have built, the better. 🚙🌳 Sadly those developments are also the reason we won't ever see elephants in the dunes again. They simply won't have enough contained space to roam around in. 🐘😥

    • @sicko_the_ew
      @sicko_the_ew ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DustBugsTravel I suppose the places to see their effect would be the Maputo Elephant Reserve in Mozambique (maybe one day you guys will make it there?) or the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park in Northern KZN. (I remember it from the days before they brought in elephants and big predators, and apparently it's quite amazing now they have. Bonus is they got rid of a lot of the pine plantations around there, so the bush will be on its way back.)
      But ja, it might be difficult to incorporate elephant into the Boesmansriviermond conservation area. Big thing would be the cost of putting a "wildlife bridge" over the main highway. For the rest, I've heard electric fences work well on elephant.
      So all we have to do is wait for load shedding to end next week, and the road would become clear.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't heard about the Maputo Elephant Reserve, but it sounds very interesting! 🐘 Our goal is to see as much of our own country as we can do safely and then venture further afield. I have family in Moz, so might just swing by there sometime! 🚙😁

    • @sicko_the_ew
      @sicko_the_ew ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DustBugsTravel I haven't met anyone who's actually gone there, but I hear there really are elephant there. Elephant and nature reserve beaches - something like the stretch from Sodwana to Kosi Bay, probably. (So no 4X4, apart from the rangers 4X4 being another one of those activities where people go and love nature to death - or just love machines and kill nature with unconcern, sometimes.)
      Looking forward to your Moz series one day, anyway!

      I hear what you're saying. For us though, it couldn't be any more beautiful, regardless of the name. I fear that a country that can already not provide a basic service like electricity to its citizens shouldn't spend any funds on name changes until they've addressed every other essential service which is currently lacking. A name change is certainly not going to improve the lives of its people. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      It is truly a gorgeous place where the folks live close to nature! 🌳🌊 Safety is a relative term in South Africa and, no matter where one finds oneself in our country, you simply have to be vigilant. Generally I do believe the smaller, less urban environments are safer, but you'll find runners in the biggest of centres too, so that alone shouldn't be an indication of the safety in a specific area.
