Fireflies really do bring so much magic and beauty. Especially here visiting Martha and Ike at my favorite puppy and me lake travels ❤❤❤ I love this so much. When I was little I thought fireflies were tiny forest fae. So I was always so very gentle with them as I stood still and let them land and glow across my hands and fingers until they buzzed off and away to their hidden fairy village deep beneath the forest floor. If you can’t tell my family is very Celtic and grandmother may have encouraged this idea.

Once again….spiritual experience 😭 my Grandpa just died 2 days ago ❤️🩹 he was almost 90 and in a lot of pain so I know he’s at peace now 💛 Anyway, because you are so good ah what you do, in my minds eye, I was able to clearly stand with him by the lake and watch the fireflies 🥲🥰😭 and then I watched both my grandma and grandpa dance under the fireflies until they were their young adult selves decades ago 🥹✨ my pillow is tears all over it. Thank you once again for sharing your talent with us. My heart and soul has healed so much the last year and I’ve been listening to you for a year 🙏🏼🪄✨

Long reply warning! I edited it but felt such a need to thank you, I’m sending it anyway. I JUST asked for another Ike and Martha story! As much as I enjoy the witches’ cottage (I am Carla, after all!), and travel stories, the sweet lakeside is my favorite by far. The tender, affectionate relationship between Ike and Martha is so lovely. Many of us grew up seeing the opposite and sadly, some experience it. Even without their surroundings, Ike and Martha are therapeutic. As a kid I longed for peace and quiet, trees and a chance to swim or just be in the water. My home was far from that. In the city. A few city-planted trees, houses right beside the other, a far from tranquil home life. And then came what we called The Lake. A cabin, added onto bit by bit, surrounded by tall trees and paths cushioned in pine needles, that faced a huge lake!!! With a dock we learned to dive from. And nighttime sounds of distant boats, frogs, cicadas, occasional owls, and not a single siren, arguing neighbors or loud cars. For me, and the never enough time we spent there, it was bliss. I’m convinced that it and some caring elders (like your wonderful grands) who welcomed me to their country homes, literally saved me. I suspect you and others who find peace and solace here, understand. And to those who see a sensitive kid who could use a break and who step in, thank you. You make more of a difference than you could ever know. Now, I’m off to visit Ike and Martha! Hooray!!
I love this so very much and I'm so glad you shared this with me! And what a beautiful phrase "the never enough time." I may have to use that someday in a meditation. My grandparents were the products of remarkable strife and dysfunction and I imagine that is why they often opened their home to so many children that were not their own, taking them on camping adventures and showering love on the holidays. I'm so glad you enjoy this series-- for all the Marthas and Ikes out in the world, I'm just as grateful for them now as ever and hope to one day grow into that role myself. When I was a little boy I’d catch fireflies and put them in a jar. When I’d go to sleep I’d watch them under the covers flickering. I would put little holes in the jar lid goat air I suppose they breathe and I didn’t want to hurt them. I’d let them loose in the morning. They have a unique smell. Like lawn grass but sweeter. I found it very pleasant. Like your narration of your story with the crickets in the background. La vie est une magnifique histiore.
How lovely-- the one time I don't mention a smell but you are so right! I'd do the same when camping with my grandparents and release them the next day as well.
You can use them for anything-- I use them to stream content so I don't wake others up when I'm not alone. I also find they are great when it's cold out because they keep my ears covers when I'm on long walks.
I want to listen to this so badly!! I love Ike and Martha and the cabin but the background sounds, the crickets I guess, are so overstimulating my body really won't let me. I keep trying and have deleted this message twice because I know you accommodate so many, many requests. So it's totally ok if the answer is no and I understand you are appealing to a very large audience. Is there a way to release this mediation without the vibration high pitch cricket sounds? Just curious 🤔
