- The Cats were a pop group from Volendam. They were one of the most successful bands in the Netherlands from 1968 to 1975. The band’s original line up was Cees Veerman, Piet Veerman, Arnold Mühren, Jaap Schilder, Theo Klouwer and (from 1972 to 1975) Piet Keizer. They developed an original music sound that received the name ‘palingsound’ This style inspired many other Volendam artists, such as Maddog, Left Side, Next One and BZN.
Be My Day' was one of their biggest hits: it reached # 1 in the Top 40 in 1974 and stayed at this spot for 6 weeks. It prevented ABBA with their Eurovision Songfestival winners hit 'Waterloo' from reaching the first place in the Dutch Top 40.

Das sagten schon weiland meine Eltern, Großeltern und einst sogar die Ur-Großeltern. Die Vergangenheit wird später immer glorifiziert und die Erinnerung ist das einzige Paradies, aus dem wir nicht vertrieben werden konnten. Die nachfolgenden Generationen werden auch eines Tages behaupten, ihre Jugend wäre schön gewesen, wobei die Frage gestellt werden darf, was man sich denn unter "schön" generell vorstellen darf.
