    It’s not juvenile, it’s whimsical!!! We all need a little whimsy in our lives, especially at Christmas. It looks darling on you with your light features.

    Suggestion……wear a tank or cami under the top with the open sleeve. Easy fix! 😊

      That's a really good idea! If I can't quickly figure out a way to add a shield or something with the original fabric then a cami will definitely be the solution. Thank you!

    Love the cowl neck top...such a cute print....I agree that I just can't wear dark colours all winter. Both of the men's makes are great! I am thinking that I am going to make the Finlayson for my son...stylish version of a hoodie.

    Janine beautiful finished garments, especially love the tropical tee for your husband! I think my husband needs one in his future for a cruise. I have been thinking about doing a rope bowl for a long time. I have watched several tutorials, bought various options for rope and discovered my local quilt store is having a class on Monday and I got the last spot!! Wish me luck, if I am happy with the result it will be a gift this Christmas for a friend. Sounds like you have a full week ahead of you as well, nuts and bolts are a favourite and I always make shortbread cookies using my Grandmother's recipe. It wouldn't be Christmas without them. Take care

      Janine, the rope bowl class was fantastic!! We did 4 coasters and a small bowl to hold them. Turns out the instructor was a friend I hadn't seen in many years, bonus we were able to reconnect and catch up. Great day!
      My shortbread is a simple recipe, 1 lb of butter, 1 1/4 cup icing sugar, 4 cups of flour. I mix the soften butter (I used salted) with the icing sugar first and then start adding the flour until about 3 1/2 - 3 3/4 cups mixed in. The trick is to not overwork the dough. Roll out in small batches using the remaining flour to dust the board and the rolling pin. I bake on parchment lined sheet for 13 -15 minutes at 350 degrees. Love them Enjoy!

    Hi Janine - I always look forward to your videos. I think your husband's gifts look terrific (for what it's worth, I also think the ribbing you chose for the Hawaiian tee was a great choice). I'm so envious of your discretionary time, and I must say, retirement sure looks good on you! (What are Nuts and Bolts? I'm in the US and that's not a treat I'm familiar with.) If you didn't already know, I recommend using Royal icing to decorate your cookies. It goes on easily and then dries nicely (unlike regular frosting/icing that never quite dries). I'm sure you can find plenty of online recipes. Oh, and I think your Arlington looks so nice on you. Wishing you a holiday of joy and peace. Thank you so much, Charlotte

    • @JanineSews
      @JanineSews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Charlotte. Thanks so much for your very kind words. I am enjoying being able to do more things around the house. It's nice to not have to rush out the door, especially in the dark days of winter.
      Nuts and Bolts are very much like Chex Mix. It's hard to find Chex cereal here so we use a few different ingredients. I'm going to put my Mom's recipe up in the description box. I think you'll find that it's very familiar!
      Royal Icing - I'll let you in on a secret. I discovered that the local bakery sells Royal Icing by the tube! So I bought a few but had to get creative for the icing for flooding because I didn't have meringue powder or liquid egg whites. I have a batch to ice tonight and hope they go well.
      Happy Holidays!

    I LOVE the deer top! The fabric is so sweet and cozy. I’d love to make a top from that fabric too. Also loved what you sewed for your hubby. He is blessed that you share your talents on his behalf (and I’m sure he appreciates it😜). I’m finishing up a stretch velvet top for my daughter. Egads -what was I thinking?? Many challenges working on this fabric! Blessings to you and yours this Christmas. I love your videos and look forward to watching them. 😊

      Oh Vicki, stretch velvet can be difficult. How is it going? Have you learned any tricks to make it easier to work with? I seem to recall a bit of a mess with it - although that digital chenille was messy, too.
      Thank you so much for watching. Merry Christmas! 🎄

      Thanks for writing back! I did hand stitch the hem of the top and also the sleeves. I wasn't sure if the walking foot would make the hem stitching more visible. I probably should have tried it on a scrap. I hope it fits my daughter, as she is a plus size and although I followed the pattern's measurements I won't know if it fits until she tries it on. I tried to find your woodland fabric online but couldn't find it anywhere. I'll look again next fall. Enjoy your holidays!!

    Love everything you’ve made as usual. Those are great looking men’s tops. I’m going to try and find fabric for men and make my husband a couple tops too. May even try out your recipe. I’ve really been wanting to make rope bowls. Haven’t found a class near me ( may look online ) yours look great. It’s on my 2024 makes list .

    • @JanineSews
      @JanineSews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, Kathy! My husband has worn both tops - and he decided that the cosy top was for sleeping 🤣 He isn't a big fan of prints unless they're plaid.
      Rope Bowls are surprisingly easy. I found this tutorial and it covers the key points so you probably don't need a class (unless you like socialising while sewing, which I know many of us enjoy!). The only thing that I was taught in the class was to add bits of colour by wrapping fabric strips around the rope in different places. There weren't any rules about that, it was more an opportunity to get creative.
      Here's a link to the tutorial: th-cam.com/video/eN6M8-sY3-0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kSW7L6PC4T48e4ha

    I was in Fabricland yesterday, and that lovely whimsical animal print is on sale! I'm going back on Tuesday with my gift certificate to get a few meters. Your hubbie will be very happy with his new tops. Hopefully, I get my husband's zip front sweat shirt sewn for Christmas. Today I'm cutting out pillow covers, with a pocket for a book, for my great nieces, and a friends little girl. Nuts and bolts are a great gift. You should share your recipe. I'm going to try make pffeffernuse cookies for a gift. Good luck with cookie decorating. I watched Martha Stewart demonstrate how to decorate a cake, and I thought, I could do that. Haha! I make my twin daughters My Little Pony cakes for their 6th birthday. The decorating was not great, but they loved the cakes, as did their friends. My first and last attended at cake decorating, and that was 39 years ago!

    Nuts and bolts! A flashback to Christmases gone by. I think they’ve been replaced by Chex party mix in our culture. Now I want to make nuts and bolts. Is it nuts, cheerios, and pretzels with butter/Worcestershire?
    Your top is so cute and cozy. Love the cowl neck!
    -Addie

    • @JanineSews
      @JanineSews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Addie, I think that we didn't call them Chex mix in Canada because we don't have the same varieties here that there are in the States. I've used my Mom's recipe many times but several of her ingredients aren't easy to find (summer savoury?) so there are a few substitutions. I'll pull out my recipe and will add it in a reply a bit later today. Currently watching cookies in the oven!
