Nice review! Another nice feature: the LED's on top will "breath", that is illuminate briefly every few seconds. I dropped my radio in tall grass during a fire department exercise. When I realized it was gone I was able to quickly locate it even though it was getting pretty dark. You can adjust or turn this feature off in the menu.
OK, sweet mine was doing that and I wondered what that was. I didn’t see it in the owners manual but I didn’t really read the owners manual that detailed so this is great thanks.
The numbers 0-5 on top of the screen is for the transmission power in watts. Push the transmit button and look *really carefully* and you can see a faint thin red bar under the numbers. It should go up to 5 when TX Power (menu item #2) is set to High, and up to 2 or so when TX power is set to low.
Another feature: menu item #3 is a power save option when monitoring . The setting 1:3 means the radio listens for 1 second and then sleeps for 3. The max is 1:8, so you may not hear the first 8 seconds of a transmission (!). I have mine turned off (always listen, never sleep) and seem to get great battery life, so I'm not convinced how useful this feature may be.
Hey Paul, another great video, I just grabbed one and in less than 24 hours recieved my gmrs permisson slip. Still trying to figure out things, especially the repeater stuff. I'm in 02780 and I see on the web there are lots of repeaters, just trying to figure out. Thanks for all the vids......
I don’t think it matters. They are advertising different radios but all the ones that I know about except all programming and there are videos on TH-cam that show you how to unlock the radio. It’s pretty simple but none of my friends had to do that and neither did I.

Ok great. What is the feature called in the menu?

Ok thanks Stewart I’ll check it out. I’ll also make sure my sleep option is turned off.
Thank you for that!

Also programmable with CHIRP.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing that information.
