She went far with me and I had her in my life for 7 years. We got along perfectly. I swear, this mare was such a saint. Only if you rode her correctly though.. if you didn’t you better hang on for a bolt or two.

The first weekend show I took my horse to he coliced. I remember just sobbing while we were trying to get him out of the stall. We hauled him to the nearest vet to see what we could do. He was so old and so far gone that surgery just wouldn’t be worth it. We decided to drive back to the fairgrounds to take care of our other horses and on the way back we got the call. It just wasn’t humane to make him wait while we drove back. That night I slept with his old bridle and bell boots. As a six year old who had never lost a horse that was my own it really broke me. And even though it’s been five years since he left me I still miss him.
Don't be sad because you didn't lose your best friend. He just needed to spread his wings. Believe and trust in God's glory! I know its hard but your strong and we all love you! Praying for your healing!
Omgosh He will be so missed ❤️. My mare is 30 yrs old and I woke up one morning to her colicking. We immediately called the vet. I cried and cried. I had to go to school, so the whole day I worried about what I came home to. As I walked away, she finally got up and stepped towards me, and nudged my shoulder. I will never forget that. I cried all day during school. This was when we first got horses and didn’t know much. Horses aren’t just pets, they are companions, best friends, a shoulder to cry on, someone who really truly understands. They may not be the most talented, most gorgeous, or best trained, but they are worth the whole world. Rest In Peace Slew. We love you ❤️

I lost my canine version of Slew about three and a half years ago - in a similarly unexpected medical problem from nowhere - and I still turn around expecting it to be him when I hear the jingle of tags on a collar, or nails on the floor. Animals like these - the ones who change who we are forever, who teach us more about ourselves than anyone or anything else has ever managed, our guiding lights in the dark and our lodestones when we're lost ... they honestly never leave us. I am forever changed, I am *better* because of everything I learned from him. I know there are no words to comfort you right now, and I'm crying along with you, honestly. Unless someone has had a slew of their own, they truly cannot understand. Sending you my love.
I lost my mare in this year in January due to unknown neurological reasons. Her name was Jessie Jane. She was a 24 year old retired Saddlebred arabian at the time and we would've had her 4 years this coming October. I wanted to have her cremated but i couldn't afford it. So instead I have her tail and her halter. It's rough and I miss her so much. Me and my sister shared her and she pretty much taught me how to ride and get over my confindence issues. I still listen for her whinny and look for her at the barn.. I would give you a big hug if I could. May your big boy rest in peace.
I’m so sorry slew was the best horse I ever seen. I’m crying. You know what no horse can ever beat him or the love for him. I understand your loss I lost my pony in august 2020 and it’s hard and it will get better I’m still upset absolutely my pony Jackson he was a 17.1 hand height, I meet him when I was born. I was born on a farm not a hospital and my mom was in the barn and her water broke and a little while later, I was born. Jackson was there, and I’m 21 now he was 21 years old. Jackson was only a foal that was a few minutes old, we grew up together. And I can’t thank Jackson enough for what he has done For me.

Animals give us so much love and happiness but when it’s time for them to go we that’s when we really realize how much we love them . My grandma told me it’s almost harder to lose a animal than a people you will make it through this and just remember how much love he brought to you and how he got you to the point you are at . I have my own horse now, and I board him at the stable I used to take lessons. But a few weeks ago, one of the lesson ponies that I grew up riding passed away. He was old and sick, but I try to think that he died peacefully, knowing that he was home and surrounded by those he loved. Try to think that Slew passed the same way. And tell yourself this : Loss, and unbearable as it is, is just another part of life. Rest In Peace, to everyone’s lost loved ones.
i’m so sorry, i lost a horse recently too. he was 30 with really bad feet and i loved him so so so much, i was one of the only people who put time and effort into him, he became my 2nd favorite at my barn. he had to get put down two months ago and i still haven’t gotten over him, i miss him so much. fly high buddy

I'm so sorry for your loss. I learned what colic was when I found my mare in a bad way. Looking back, she wasn't gonna make it, but I didn't know that, My dad and I stayed with her all night till she passed. I was only 14. That was 45 years ago. I still miss her. I still cry when any of my critters pass. Hugs for you. He hit the lottery when you got him; what a good and wonderful life ya'll had together!
Sometimes I wonder.....could this get any worse...but oh well it just gets worse and worse sometimes you even forget it happened and want to meet that thing and then...oh I forgot they aren't here....but then...I discovered a quote " *don't be sad it's over* *be happy because of the memories* " and it's true you shouldn't be sad because now they are in a pain free place but the only cost is not seeing you so just remember that they are happier and not struggling!!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your best friend...I lost mine a long time ago. An Appaloosa mare. I got her when I was twelve she was four...she also passed from colic at 22 years old. For ten years she carried me around a show ring and we won countless ribbons and trophies before she retired from showing, but that was the smallest part of being with her. The hours spent in the barn just talking to her or the hundreds of miles we must've covered on trails. She didn't just teach me about horses she taught me about life. I will be fifty this year. Shes still the best friend I've ever had. I still miss her. Much love from my heart to you.
I lost my 4 year old in 2018 because of colics.. colics are horrible and they are my biggest fear.. he also was my once in a lifetime horse.. I could do everything with him.. we had a great bond.. RIP slew ❤️

Lost my girl to colic this April, after 16 years. She survived surgery as a 2 yr old, but like you, I found her in the morning after what looked like an awful night (her stall was all torn up). Despite Bute & Banamine, she was too far gone & the vet euthanized her for me. Absolutely gutting day. RIP my Pickles (HBF Pick Me First).
i was that green rider too, i have a ottb that i got three years ago he has already taught me so much and i had no clue what i was doing i barley new how to canter but we somehow got this horse in my life and i wouldn't change it for the world. ive learned so much from mine to now im jumping 2'6 courses and i owe it all to him. mine will forever be my heart horse and i really hope the best for you Stephanie this video made me cry because i am you right now and i cant ever imagine not having my boy. please keep thinking of the positive things you will get better im sending lots of love.
So so sorry for your loss! We just lost our old paint mare due to unexplained facial paralysis about 1.5wks ago. I knew her for about 2-2.5yrs and owned her for about 1.5yr. It felt like a lifetime tho. She was lead mare and was very opinionated, but was actually quite the sweetheart and made sure nothing would happen to you. One time we were on a trail ride and she got her foot stuck on a Y of a branch on the ground when we were going down a really steep hill. She went down but did everything in her power not to dump me. One day I noticed she was quidding her hay but seemed to be otherwise ok. A few days passed and she had some swelling on 1 side of her face. Fast forward 2 vet visits and the vets and I couldn't figure out what caused her facial paralysis. I gave her my all in those last weeks with changing her diet, administering steroids and as well as doing red light therapy on her at least 2x a day. Unfortunately things didn't get better and it wasn't fair to put her under more stress with trailering her to a specialist for nerve testing. She had lost almost 150lbs in 3wks and wasn't improving at all. We decided that it was better for her to end her 28 long years of life while she was still somewhat healthy. We went on one last goodbye trail ride the day before she transitioned. She was our old gelding's "wife" and took care of my father in law on rides. She was my go to for teaching lessons and she was so much fun to blast on the trails as she was so smooth and steady. It was very hard to see her go and am still getting used to her not being at the barn, and not hearing her whinny or nicker, or seeing the tips of her ears and beedy eyes peering over the edge of her door. I might not have grown with this horse as you did with your soulmate but she did feel like a heart horse in a way to me. I feel your pain and wish you all the best and sending love and light 💗
My heart goes out to you. I lost my heart a couple years ago. I grew up with him and he was 12. I always questioned why this had to happen to me before, but those 12 years was enough time for me. One day would have been enough for me. No horse can replace him, but you will love more horses. It is law better to have loved and lost then to have never have loved at all.

I understand your loss I lost my pony in august 2020 and it’s hard and it will get better I’m still upset absolutely my pony Jackson he was a 17.1 hand height, I meet him when I was born. I was born on a farm not a hospital and my mom was in the barn and her water broke and a little while later, I was born. Jackson was there, and I’m 21 now he was 21 years old. Jackson was only a foal that was a few minutes old, we grew up together. And I can’t thank Jackson enough for what he has done For me.

I’m so sorry this video made me cry . This summer I lost my very first horse I just reminded me of her . Animals give us so much love and happiness but when it’s time for them to go we that’s when we really realize how much we love them . My grandma told me it’s almost harder to lose a animal than a people you will make it through this and just remember how much love he brought to you and how he got you to the point you are at . I have my own horse now, and I board him at the stable I used to take lessons. But a few weeks ago, one of the lesson ponies that I grew up riding passed away. He was old and sick, but I try to think that he died peacefully, knowing that he was home and surrounded by those he loved. Try to think that Slew passed the same way. And tell yourself this : Loss, and unbearable as it is, is just another part of life.

i’m so sorry, i lost a horse recently too. he was 30 with really bad feet and i loved him so so so much, i was one of the only people who put time and effort into him, he became my 2nd favorite at my barn. he had to get put down two months ago and i still haven’t gotten over him, i miss him so much. fly high buddy

I'm so sorry for your loss. I learned what colic was when I found my mare in a bad way. Looking back, she wasn't gonna make it, but I didn't know that, My dad and I stayed with her all night till she passed. I was only 14. That was 45 years ago. I still miss her. I still cry when any of my critters pass. Hugs for you. He hit the lottery when you got him; what a good and wonderful life ya'll had together!

I had a metal breake down when a horse I ridden first time he was not mine and then a horse I rode my 6th month died I am still sad ppl made fun of me and and reminded me of them but they will staying your heart always remember THEY WILL STAY IN YOUR HEART AND YOU WILL SEE HIM IN HEAVEN❤

I'm so sorry for the loss of your best friend...I lost mine a long time ago. An Appaloosa mare. I got her when I was twelve she was four...she also passed from colic at 22 years old. For ten years she carried me around a show ring and we won countless ribbons and trophies before she retired from showing, but that was the smallest part of being with her. The hours spent in the barn just talking to her or the hundreds of miles we must've covered on trails. She didn't just teach me about horses she taught me about life. I will be fifty this year. Shes still the best friend I've ever had. I still miss her. Much love from my heart to you.

Lost my girl to colic this April, after 16 years. She survived surgery as a 2 yr old, but like you, I found her in the morning after what looked like an awful night (her stall was all torn up). Despite Bute & Banamine, she was too far gone & the vet euthanized her for me. Absolutely gutting day. RIP my Pickles (HBF Pick Me First).

i was that green rider too, i have a ottb that i got three years ago he has already taught me so much and i had no clue what i was doing i barley new how to canter but we somehow got this horse in my life and i wouldn't change it for the world. ive learned so much from mine to now im jumping 2'6 courses and i owe it all to him. mine will forever be my heart horse and i really hope the best for you Stephanie this video made me cry because i am you right now and i cant ever imagine not having my boy. please keep thinking of the positive things you will get better im sending lots of love.
So so sorry for your loss! We just lost our old paint mare due to unexplained facial paralysis about 1.5wks ago. I knew her for about 2-2.5yrs and owned her for about 1.5yr. It felt like a lifetime tho. She was lead mare and was very opinionated, but was actually quite the sweetheart and made sure nothing would happen to you. One time we were on a trail ride and she got her foot stuck on a Y of a branch on the ground when we were going down a really steep hill. She went down but did everything in her power not to dump me. One day I noticed she was quidding her hay but seemed to be otherwise ok. A few days passed and she had some swelling on 1 side of her face. Fast forward 2 vet visits and the vets and I couldn't figure out what caused her facial paralysis. I gave her my all in those last weeks with changing her diet, administering steroids and as well as doing red light therapy on her at least 2x a day. Unfortunately things didn't get better and it wasn't fair to put her under more stress with trailering her to a specialist for nerve testing. She had lost almost 150lbs in 3wks and wasn't improving at all. We decided that it was better for her to end her 28 long years of life while she was still somewhat healthy. We went on one last goodbye trail ride the day before she transitioned. She was our old gelding's "wife" and took care of my father in law on rides. She was my go to for teaching lessons and she was so much fun to blast on the trails as she was so smooth and steady. It was very hard to see her go and am still getting used to her not being at the barn, and not hearing her whinny or nicker, or seeing the tips of her ears and beedy eyes peering over the edge of her door. I might not have grown with this horse as you did with your soulmate but she did feel like a heart horse in a way to me. I feel your pain and wish you all the best and sending love and light 💗

My heart goes out to you. I lost my heart a couple years ago. I grew up with him and he was 12. I always questioned why this had to happen to me before, but those 12 years was enough time for me. One day would have been enough for me. No horse can replace him, but you will love more horses. It is law better to have loved and lost then to have never have loved at all.

he will always be missed by everyone. just know slew was and still will be the most loved horse you possibly imagine. you had him for 15 years, which must feel like a lifetime but just know even though he is not here anymore he will always be in our hearts.
I am so sorry Stephanie, I lost my heart horse at the beginning of this year and I still miss him to this day. So I know what you are going through right now, and it does get better. I got a engraved piece of jewellery with his name on and forever loved on the other side, and wearing it helps me.
