The scene around 10:50 made me tear up every time. Enmeshing her old childhood with the story of the crimson scholar both made her relatable and gave hope to those without hope. After that she went from being a wise educator to a symbol of freedom who is relatable to the average person. A symbol of their struggles and what they could be with an education. By invoking divine imagery it further questioned the authority of a corrupt church. Being declared a Saint under the protection of the crown was a nice touch.
Imagine if, in real life, an angry mob would have turned their stones against those who truly deserved it rather than be driven by fear.
I always find it funny how this story doesn't give anyone real names. The entire story only ever refers to them by their titles.
I think names are hard to write in japanese, because its a symbolic language.
it gives the anime a "epic poem" vibe, a lot of poems tell the tales of knights, archers, mages but never give them a name, just like this anime could be a tale counted so many years after that they forgot all the main charachters names.
Goblin Slayer does the same. All the characters a named by their titles and race.

Potatoes are legitimately a miracle crop, I can see why they would be the Demon Queen’s secret weapon.
This anime was really good, i like it the first time i watched it, really hoping if there could be a second season, i love it so much
this show was so good. It was the first show that really threw me for a loop. I thought it was going to be parody hero x demon lord thing, which it was, but god it was amazing. I love how there is so much geo-politics going on, side characters are so important, its more an ensemble cast story telling. The biggest part, is that the Hero is actually OP as shit, but knows he needs to fighting smart, not hard. The demon queen is actually super intelligent and wants peace, but understands the cirucumstances. It is beautiful how it was written.
Seeing as the show was released in 2009 I seriously doubt it.

Maoyuu is basically a Middle Ages version of Dr. Stone.
Unfortunately, they are still associated with the hazards of a monoculture. In Real History the Irish Potato Famine wasn't a true famine because other crops were being produced and the blight only really lasted for a single season. The real problem was that Ireland was exporting all other food products and it was a crime to give food to the poor. If you saw a child dying of hunger in the streets and you gave that child any food at all you would be severely punished. As a consequence of this policy people were trying to eat seed potatoes before they had a chance to fully grow which is why the famine extended for upwards of two years. If their government took measures to provide for the people instead of exporting the goods the famine would not have claimed any lives and it would have only been a short measure of a few months, but because the government prioritized economic activity over human lives many people died who didn't have to die. This of course led to the mass migration to North America.
In many ways that sounds a lot like our current reality. People are dying who don't have to die, but the governments pretend it's not an issue and prioritizes economic activity at the expense of human lives.

This is one of my favorite manga / anime series, and I've been watching for around 16 years now. Sociology And Macroeconomics: The Series; I've heard it often compared to Spice & Wolf.
I'm pretty sure anyone can use anything of this anime because the studio was bankrupted, so no copyright for them I guess.

I rather like this story because it goes against the overused idea of the main goal being defeating the demon king or whatever. I wouldn't like this idea to be exploited because it might lose it's unique touch but i'd certainly like more of this in other animes. i've seen too little by now, idk if it's a blessing or a curse.
The Maoyu world would be a great setting for a life-sim RPG.
Especially due to the political and economic intrigue the author wrote into the very nature of the human-demon conflict.
The anime was really nice and seemed different than all the others. I really liked the economical and political aspects, the conflict with the church was also very interesting, but the romance was WAAAAAAAAAAY too slow and really didnt lead anywhere.
Thats just modern anime in general, seems non of them cam write romance that dosent take forever to get somewhere...which they usually cancel the anime before anything happens

Minor nitpick I found it a bit annoying how almost none of the characters (especially the main characters) had actual names they were just Called by their titles

That's kind of the point. The story is what's important. The characters are just taking part in it. Sort of how like the actual person responsible for a good song...is the songwriter, not the singer. Anyone could sing it...it's the music and lyrics that are important.

The problem with these anime like How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom is that they are not realistic but rather regurgitate post war ideology divorced from physical reality

Is about destroying humanity's unity against outsider and turning it into a civil war between humanity that will last generations and end the war between humans and non humans
