I think that's so dumb. You see this in the Wicked fandom as well with Elphaba. The point of musical theater is to have the variety of interpretations and depictions of a single character. And the standards are such that a performer won't be on stage until they've passed multiple rounds of auditions and been approved by the actual creative team. I get it for film to stage adaptations of classic movies, because the character is so associated with one actress. But theater is meant to be dynamic.
