    Great video.
Privets were the first things I was determined to get out in the front! Haven’t yet had time to go through my back 2 wooded acres… no telling what’s back there.

I think the HUGE oak in my front yard is a Post Oak (I know them as Iron Oak).

I plan to raise some seedlings and propagate around my property. Have you noticed any relation between the size of the acorn and the ease / vigor of the seedling? How about acorns in their caps still vs ones that have fallen out? Or any other indicators about which acorns will make the best trees? Thanks for this and many other videos.

I am not aware of seedling vigor being correlated with nut size. Caps or no caps matters not but only if the nut is still intact and hasn’t been eaten by a weevil or other little creature. A simple approach to separate the good from the bad is a float test. Bad nuts float.
For a complete answer on the subject, there is no better resources than the “Woody Plant Seed Manual” from the Forest Service accessible online: www.fs.usda.gov/nsl/nsl_wpsm.html

Wow, I was thinking we had a lot of red and whites, but on seeing this I'm thinking almost everything on our property is white oak.

Where do acorns need to be sent when they are gathered each year?

Thanks for watching. The acorns should be brought to the Augusta Nursery. Their contact information can be found here: dof.virginia.gov/forest-management-health/seedling-nurseries/acorn-and-nut-collection/
