The Colonel was one of the greatest promoters in the buissness. But the worst manager that Elvis could have had !!This movie, could have been the single solitary thing that kept Elvis Presley Alive, and still with us today !
Elvis should have changed managers after he got out of Army. Or after the 68 special for sure. Parker was great getting Elvis exposure in the 50s when he started, but Elvis needed someone else after he became a superstar. Especially needed someone who would get him a world tour. He couldn't even go see the queen after being invited to England because of Parkers immigration crap. I'm assuming Elvis would have wanted to meet the queen like other celebrities did.
I agree with you Dave and I think parker was the reason he didn’t get the part!!!! But there is one thing I’d like to say about his prescription drug use. I stand firm that Elvis was not addicted to his prescription drugs BUT he was dependent on them. I have been on prescription pain medication for 25 years due to my RA. I don’t take them to get high but to control the horrific pain of RA and allows me to get through my days and nights!!
ELVIS should have starred in Midnight Cowboy, West Side Story, True Grit, The Rainmaker, Thunder Road, The Defiant Ones, ,, My God, how many OSCARS my beloved ELVIS would have earned!!!!!!! TCB /// ELVIS God's gift to us mere mortals ////
Yo también pienso que el haber hecho la película le hubiese dado otro rumbo a su carrera. desgraciadamente no lo sabremos nunca. Muchas gracias por compartir compartir, muy interesante tu reflexión .
Wish that Elvis had gone ahead and made calls while Barbra spoke to him about it. It would have been his next defining moment. Elvis reinvented hinself so many times, he'd have been perfect. Elvis never believed in himself, ASIB would have been the icing on the cake for him. It would've saved his life, career and his self belief. My heart bleeds at how much he gave us and yet he left with so little 😢
I agree with you David ❤ Elvis would have been great in a star is born. Imagine how much recognition and praise he would have gotten, not to mention how enthusiastic he would have been. He would have put everything he had into getting into shape, it could have changed his life and saved his life. Thank you David ❤
Elvis wanted to produce a martial arts film in which he was a narcotics detective. A few years later, Norris, Segal, and others did that theme. He could have created the genre.
💯 Parkers Fault !! Elvis was never about the Money 💰 Parker got too Greedy, he Demanded too much. He couldn't see that Elvis was slowly Dyeing inside. Elvis had become a shell of himself, feeling more like a Commodity than a man with needs, that weren't being fulfilled. I too Believe that "A Star is Born" would have saved his life. He always rose to a challenge, he would have cleaned up his act, lost the weight, would have finally done a roll he could have really been proud of and the whole trajectory of his life would have been reset. I believe he would have finally been able to fulfill his Dream of being a Serious Actor, maybe even done a Musical on Broadway with Andrew Lloyd Webber. He Needed something New, A Chalenge to get excited about. He needed to get rid of Parker and Dr Nick !! Unfortunately it didn't happen. And We Lost Him. 💔
Let’s forget the movie for a second … Elvis and Barbra singing together that night on stage, that would have been something. That could have been a life changing moment for both of them.
A guy named Mungo Jerry wrote a song for Elvis called Feels Like I'm in Love, which could have been a number 1 worldwide but Elvis died before the song got to him.
When news that Elvis was in the frame for this movie came out in the 70’s the Elvis fan club of Great Britain said in the report that it was the second billing that was the issue.
Gilblue; in 1962 Queen Elizabeth II personally invited ELVIS to London , for the Royal Variety Show ,he would have been in the company of Bob Hope, Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Eartha Kitt, etc,,but he had to decline the offer, because the infamous Parker as always opposed this trip and this meeting (you know why!!!!!!!) Poor ELVIS prisoner in spite of himself of this disgusting man / TCB/ TLC/
I would have loved to have seen Elvis in the rainmaker with Burt Lancaster ...I think Burt would have helped him become a serious actor and advised him on following his own path........a lot of people overlook Follow that dream, but I think Elvis gives a great performance as a simple niaive young man...similar to the role that he would have played in The Rainmaker as Burts younger brother....my take on Elvis and the Colonel relationship is The Colonel cared more about money than Elvis and he used Elvis,s love for his fans to keep persuading Elvis what was best to please his fans....movie after movie....concert after concert..
Elvis avait besoin de voir d autres pays. L Amérique de longs en larges il en avait plus que marre. Je pense que voir sont impacte dans le mondes l aurai aidé à ce ressaisir j'en suis certain.
If you listen to Linda Thompson, she said that she was there and the colonel said why would you do a role that is too familiar to real life I don’t want my boy to be portrayed that way and he didn’t want second billing for Elvis. That’s what I heard. Did you hear that?
A star is born, is the movie that everyone always hears about... but in my opinion, the biggest miss on a film that he had was True Grit. Elvis was original pick to play the Texas Ranger La Beouf, opposite John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn. Parker always wanted Elvis to get get top billing for everything, and this was no different. He actually expected Elvis to get top pay over John Wayne when The Duke was really the star of the film. That's outrageous. As everyone knows, the role went to Glen Campbell, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, and the title song which he sang was nominated for an Oscar. A huge missed opportunity.
I think if had taken the contract to do the movie' ' a star is born ' the movie wld have been a huge success considering him being so famous n gorgeous everybody loved him seeing him perform on stage is really so delightful I am sorry to say Elvis just didn't have the support fm his friends or his female ladies what a waste such a beautiful man
@@vickyclausen4631 Billy said that Elvis wanted to get out of that project, when you read the article in the file that was shown by Graceland you easily understand why : "Barbra is so talented that actors come off as second bananas"
Your very rt David this movie would had been brilliant for ELVIS but I blame that Parker … cuz no matter who the main star it would had been ELVIS to win BIG n yes it would had made ELVIS bigger then ever ♥️♥️♥️
It would’ve been interesting to see Elvis sing hard rock. I wish who ever made that version made it earlier between 68-70 Elvis was at his peak Edit: someone should make an AI 70’ Elvis sing watch closely now
Think Elvis would have been brilliant in Where Eagles Dare playing the American Lieutenant opposite Richard Would have been interesting to see him in this role though as he was older and wiser
Well as far as saving his life I don’t think so. As much as it would have been satisfying the fact of sitting on the set all day would not have been exciting. Like everybody Elvis liked to have fun and he could afford to do anything. But happiness comes from inside and he wasn’t able to work on that with everything that was going on. It would have been a nice moment but that’s it only a moment.
I agree with you that it could have been a great chance for Elvis. Surely he was not in shape and maybe he was worried about not being able to look his best in time for the making of the movie, then there was this dislike for the Streisand's boyfriend, who however at the right time was "set aside" and the film was entrusted to another director (F. Pierson). So I think that despite the desire to make the film Elvis also had many doubts . Having asked Parker for advice (still trusting this delinquent!, who is said he had been offended because Streisand had gone directly to Elvis), he took revenge not missing the opportunity to confirm and increase Elvis' doubts, manipulating his insecurities and weaknesses, pointing out the plot of the film: a star in decline who used alcohol and drugs, etc. etc. in short, some of those things that were really happening in Elvis' life and that the public could have started to think that the fiction was not so much fiction etc., etc., On the contrary, I am absolutely convinced that Elvis would have done very well playing this movie, that certain scenes that worried him (showing himself bare-chested, doing coke..), could have been changed a little without changing the meaning of the story and also regarding the financial compensation (keeping in mind that Elvis was not that greedy - as Parker was), he could have certainly asked for some changes without demanding such a high fee, (by now he was no longer number one in Hollywood), content with the percentage offered, and that then, given the success of the film, would have made him earn much more. Furthermore, he could have tested himself as a serious actor, "reopen" a career that was now closed and maybe start a new one. All simple reasoning that a good manager truly interested in the career and well-being of his client could have explained and advised him... but everyone knows very well that Parker was anything but a good manager, not at all interested in the career neither in the physical and psychological well-being of his client so things have gone the way we know.....very badly😡😡
I have very mixed feelings on whether Elvis turned it down or Parker. My feeling is that Elvis was struggling with confidence level and his health at this time. I think he would have been great had he done it.
Elvis' career was driven by challenges, particularly after the movie slog: the Comeback Special, the return to live performance, Aloha From Hawaii. The only time he really failed to meet one of these challenges was the CBS special, which probably would not have been broadcast if he had not died; they would have re-shot another tou or something. But it's entirely possible that after Aloha, that competitive drive to succeed in the moment may have left him; based on his health and attitude the whole "fat and 40" thing, he may have been having self-doubts about whether he could meet the moment in a movie. Parker has taken the blame for the deal falling through, and it's the kind of deal that Parker would have made based on his reputation, but it's entirely possible that Elvis thought it was too much work for what he was willing to do. If it was a different movie that didn't have another fantastic singer in it where there was a direct comparison-- something along the lines of the Warren Betty role in Heaven Can Wait where there wasn't any singing -- I think that would have interested him more. I don't know what Jerry Schilling's take is on this, but I'm inclined to believe that he knows the truth.
It’s crazy how much weight he put on between September 1974 and the beginning of 1975 although he still managed despite abusing the pills he didn’t look like he was and still looked really good
Thanks David. I think Elvis needed something else to work on to keep him going. It should have definitely gone through. Parker was not the right man for Elvis....
I think Parker didn’t want Elvis circulating outside his sphere of control. I think Elvis didn’t push back too hard because he was deep in the throes of addiction.
If the Colonel really cared about Elvis, he would have insisted that he did the film. Looking back it would have changed his life direction or changed nothing.

Think the split in responsibility for why Elvis didn't appear in the remake of A Star Is Born is 25% Elvis, 75% Parker. After showing initial enthusiasm for the project, Elvis probably started having some doubts. There were people in his orbit (The Memphis Mafia, Linda Thompson, his father, etc.) who could or maybe should have encouraged him to do the movie. Elvis's career was not what it had been in the '60s and certainly not what it was in the '50s. He was no longer having any big hit records (although his albums and singles still sold reasonably well). Most of his money at this point was coming from his concert performances, due to a very loyal fan base. If this had been presented to him as a challenge, like the '68 comeback television special and '69 return to live performing were, Elvis could have worked to get himself back in shape. Parker allowed Elvis to slip into ruts throughout the time he managed Elvis. In the '60s, it was movies, in the '70s, it was concerts and concert tours. He should have had Elvis regularly appearing on television shows and performing live throughout the '60s and '70s.
Elvis needed this movie to help get him out of that funk he was in. Everyone knows that Elvis needed challenges to keep him motivated and in shape. I'm not sure who was at fault for not getting the deal done, but with the counter proposal it's obvious that a deal wasn't going to get done.
Hi David, My personal opinion is that this movie could have been healing for Elvis. And yes, probably sent from God as an opportunity to break free. I also think that the colonel stood in his way. His thoughts probably could have been: Not enough money (which Elvis didn't care about for sure) and a role that would not serve his image. (In the colonels' opinion). A pity that Elvis could't break free from his chains. And thank you for the interesting elaborated topic again.
After reading many books/stories about this one, unfortunately I think this one’s on Elvis. He knew he would have to get off the pills and get into shape and it was just gonna be way too hard for him by this time in the 70s so he asked the colonel to be the bad guy and make the counter offer way too stiff
Linda Thompson said Elvis loved Hee Haw. He could've easily done that show as he was such a funny guy. Also, I was watching Johnny Cash in Columbo today, and Elvis could've played a killer in that show. If it wasn't for Colonel and the pills, who knows what Elvis would've gotten into.
This would have made Elvis, plus the events that happened august 16th 1977 may have not happen and Elvis would have been able to restart his career the way he wanted it to be and get rid of parker once and for all.. this definitely would have changed a lot of of events that took place in the last couple of years of Elvis's life plus who knows he may have still been with us today if he had done this movie.
We can only speculate now, so yes, potentially this could have earned Elvis an Oscar, maybe even resurrect his movie career (a kind of acting 'comeback') we'll never know. I'm sure Parker had something to do with the decision 🙄 but ultimately Elvis didn't go through with it. Getting back in shape would have been another plus for him 🥺👑
Hi David Yes there could have been at least a delay in Elvis ‘s decline with that Star is Born movie but who knows for sure what happened to have Elvis decline it. I’m sure Parker wanted to get a huge move bet deal but maybe it was a combination of reasons on behalf of Elvis and the colonel also he would of had to cancel his concert commitments possibly, so all that could of entered into it! Great video that makes you wonder what could of been a deal TO PUT Elvis in a comeback tell and a different venue to portray him as a great actor!⭐️
I kind of wonder anymore, if there was a mix of things , maybe from a different angle. Elvis had just gotten out of the hospital and was a bit fragile it seemed during this part of 1975 making an effort to stay clean. Parker was always good at scaring Elvis that he would lose everything, and manipulated his father who had Elvis' ear. I still can't believe Vernon had business control of Elvis's money. With the time it would take to get in shape, film on location, and stay off the road touring, I'm guessing it was put to Elvis he would lose "x" amount of money and couldn't make it back doing the movie- hence the ridiculous offer to Streisand and her team. Her story about the whole thing seems pretty vague too.
if Elvis done a Star is Born that will ruin his career much more ! because a Star is Born (1976) floped really hard and the movie critics hated the movie
I really think that had Elvis taken on the role it would have changed his life but I think he lacked the confidence he would have needed to get himself back in shape and I also think that Parker didn’t instil any confidence in Elvis regarding his ability to act ! Deep down after all the films that Elvis made only a few were a challenge for him and maybe he didn’t think he was up to it so maybe ( I hate to even think it ) he just went along with Parker because that was the easiest way out of it ! Had he got a better manager things could have been better but it saddens me that he had him to the end ☹️I think Parker was good for him at the beginning but that’s all ! He needed someone who wasn’t a gambling addict who actually cared about their client instead of their own habit but that’s just my opinion and that could be wrong ! Thankyou for your posts I love that there is somewhere you can voice your opinion and hear other people’s as well xx
I think the reason that he did not do the movie was likely multifactorial. I think Colonel surely had a part in it, but my guess is that Colonel convinced Elvis that it would not be good to play the part of a declining rock star. I think Elvis probably thought about it and agreed. That would have been my concern too. I think if Elvis had made the decision that he wanted to do it, then it would have happened. The weight would have been no problem either. However, if done properly, I really think Elvis could have used it to do great things with not only his acting career, but with his music career as well. For example, had Elvis used it to introduce an entirely new set of songs with a much harder rock vibe, the result could have been amazing.
Elvis would have been fantastic in the movie. The shirtless scene might've been rewritten just as the songs would have been different from Kristofferson. Parker was greedy and shame on him to not allow this for Elvis
I agree with you. He didn't want to play second fiddle. And besides, I don't think he liked BS that much. He didn't want to be under the thumb of Barbara or her boyfriend at the time.
Sonny West told two conflicting stories about this . The first blamed Parker demanding Elvis having top billing and an insane amount of money. The second was Elvis instructing Parker to get him out of the offer because Elvis would have to get serious about his overall health. So the true story ????? We’ll probably never know.
I really think that Elvis had kept a bitter taste of his 60’s movie era. The greed of Parker and the studios got the better of his ambition to become a great actor. In his eyes, this new film project once again risked disappointing him. Why this new offer would have been different from the previous ones... No one cared about his desire to professionally succeed. Everyone was only thinking about making money on Elvis' back. On the other hand, let's not forget that a few years earlier Elvis, who wanted to give shows around the world, had been manipulated by Parker and assigned to perform in Las Vegas... Elvis was probably disillusioned. Parker should have pushed Elvis to take on new challenges. The sad countdown began in 1975 and ended in August 1977.
I don’t believe ANY of us know the serious side effects that Elvis was beginning to suffer due to his “prescription” drug use. Sonny said that Elvis told the Colonel to get him out of the movie deal/offer; Elvis knew what it took physically to do a movie -he wasn’t up to the rigorous demands. I believe, Sonny. One can be heartbroken over losing, Elvis, and wish that something or someone could have stopped the spiral downward but the fact of the matter is-something DID stop Elvis and that was his worn out body. 🥲 I don’t think, even Elvis, was prepared for that outcome-certainly, those who loved him were NOT nor ever will be. There’s a REAL REASON we say: “Gone too SOON….💔”
I feel the timing of ASIB was off for Elvis. If it had been offered 4 years earlier, it might have worked. By 1974, Elvis was sick and tired of the whole thing. I also feel that Elvis and Barbra may have clashed in a big way.
Looks like it was a joint effort by Elvis and the Colonel to sabotage the deal from Streisand. Maybe like you pointed out, it was overwhelmingly difficult for Elvis to get into shape both physically and mentally.
On this subject I’m no Elvis expert but sadly I believe he was too far gone with the pills . This would have been a brutal schedule with 12 to 14 hour days of shooting. Streisand was very professional and would have demanded ( like any serious actor) scripts learned off to a Tee . Anyone familiar with opioids knows that in the throes of these destructive substances paranoia panic attacks and health in general are under attack . We all know in some occasions E was literally out of bed an hour before a show and left immediately to the security of any given protected hotel room . It nodoubt could have saved him because I believe he would have got his belief back in himself and his capabilities because believe me one thing I understand about EP is altho we knew he was the greatest performer who ever took to a stage he didn’t and drugs would have compounded his insecurities so I believe as much as I can’t abide Parker it was Elvis who instructed Parker to make it impossible for any deal to be struck .
Elvis needed challenges. This would have been one at the right time. After the karate film Gladiators also failed to materialise, perhaps he gave up hope after that. He didn't stand up to Parker. What were the reasons for that? The 68 special was the last time.
He would've been perfect for it and he knew it. Elvis already knew Barbra, Elvis would have accepted half a mill and 2nd billing. I think for the right film, like this, Elvis would've taken it because he was looking for artistic merit and integrity. I think tom messed it up, I wouldn't be surprised if tom didnt even tell him about it. Elvis wouldn't have needed to take his shirt all the way off... it woud have been open but his face & voice was enough to detract from an unfit Elvis. He was never buff anyway, but he was still gorgeous with a few extra pounds on him ❤
He really had to do this because Elvis needed a challenge. Parker was only good for promoting Elvis in the 50ties. In the 60ties Parker made a big mistake for a contract for 7 years making the same movies. Then again a big mistake in the 70tties a contract for 7 years at the Hilton hotel for only 2,200 vistors. Parker, I don't call him colonel, was an asshole who was only thinking for himself. In the 70ties, he could unlimited gamble in the hotel, thanks by Elvis. I heard different stories about the movie "A star is born" , is there a video of Barbara telling the true story? Keep rolling your great Elvis video's my friend, they are great. Thank you very much!
He would've been great in it! Even though he was given crappy movies in the 60s I could tell that he was a good actor. It seems very likely that the Colonel (And I love that you used his real name) Might've either been greedy or said no. I don't think the Colonel wanted him to be around pros cuz maybe he was afraid Elvis would learn more about the business and leave him idk. Unfortunately we are left to wonder and think about the what if's, if he did it.
I think that Elvis would have lost weight and it would have brought him back again. He may have lived longer if he would have did the part in a star is born. Parker just ask for to much. I saw somewhere that Parker told him that he would have been second to Barbara but we all know that Elvis could have held his own in anything he did. I'm not sure if it is true or if Elvis didn't want to do it. Guess we will never know for sure.
Too much he said/she said. If Barbra Striesand personally invites you to do a movie with her, Elvis should have taken the opportunity on his terms and not the greedy tom parker. As previously stated, we will never know. Rest in Peace Elvis
Definitely a huge mistake not to take up the offer of staring in this movie, but who's fault it was will always remain unknown. My best guess is both Parker and Elvis.
Do you think Elvis would have had a hard time with the rise of Michael Jackson, especially when he came out with Off The Wall and Thriller album, plus the ground breaking MJ videos ?
Was curious on the movie "True GrIt" if Elvis really wanted to play the part that Glen Campbell got or did he know that Parker said that he wanted the lead name over John Wayne and they said No ? ? I would've thought Elvis would of wanted to do a movie with John Wayne ... Does anyone know the real reason ??
Elvis never said that he would have had any regret about that movie. The project that Elvis received was directed by Jon Peter who's never been a Director, there was no script yet for the Barbra version. Elvis received a bad project, very far from the succesfull movie it became later.
David the story I heard.that Parker screwed it up for Elvis. . either demanding to much of a percentage.of the profits and more control... I think that was parkers way of trying to talk Elvis out of it.. and telling Elvis that he don't need to do that type of movie.. Parker always wanted full control over elvis.in what he did. Parker was a control freak..he was always scared that someone.or somebody was gonna take Elvis away from him.. yes I think that this movie would have saved and changed Elvis's life. And yes I think that he could have pulled it off and done a great job.
First, I've never heard about EP and Barbra being romantically involved! Really?! Regardless, I think it probably would've turned Elvis' career around. I wonder how much of a deal-breaker was the subject matter and plot of the movie? The washed-up rocker and the drugs?
David, in my opinion I think Elvis Presley should of played this part however on the other side of this situation, would Elvis Presley be as popular today if he took that role? HAPPY Labor Day. 😊
I am curious David about your opinion. Do you think he might have done the movie if the numbers were right with him?? I dont think Elvis was ever gonna do the movie 5 minutes after he left the room sitting with Barbra. He was probably around 220 lbs., so to get back to "Hawaii's" shape he had to lose 50lbs-55 lbs. as he was 165lbs-170lbs. for "Aloha". At the time he had low energy, barely moved on stage, and as Sonny said, this was the first time Elvis failed to meet a challenge. I just dont think he ever planned to do it, it was too hard for him at this time as he was soooooo deep into the pills
Sonny, el mismo que escribió un libro 📕📖 donde hundió a Elvis ❤️ y luego admitió que mintió por dinero 🫰🤑? 😂😂😂 Veo 👀 qu el que te drogas eres tú bonita y no Elvis ❤️
This could have turned his life around! Man, what could have been. And I really believe he could have been a great dramatic actor. Great video David. BTW, I googled the date written on that photo of mine, and a couple other photos popped up from same time. But it's cool because I don't see that exact one anywhere so it could be the only one. It's really cool whatever you think is fair my friend! I just need a little help right now and go ahead and email and let me know whatever you think!👍⚡
Plain and simple, by mid-1975, Elvis was just too overweight. Had he maintained his appearance as it was in say, 1970, he would have been a shoo-in for the film!
The sad part is we only have Elvis to blame for him not doing "A Star is Born". We only have Elvis to blame for him not touring Europe and overseas. We only have Elvis to blame for all those sorry movies. Elvis was a smart man and did only what he wanted to do. Elvis never wanted to go overseas after 1973 or he would have. Elvis did not want to make "A Star is Born" or he would have and Elvis wanted to make those movies (for the money), or he would not have. Nobody told Elvis what to do and we can blame the Colonel forever but it does not change the fact that Elvis had the final say on everything he did. Every single thing. I hear, oh he was in th eff contracts and could not get out of them. Elvis signed the contracts, if he cared about the quality of his movies he would have signed the contract on a per movie basis. Elvis handled everything horribly and sadly it costs us HIM. He had more bargaining power than any entertainer that ever lived yet he acted like he was a 1st year film student when it came to getting his way. It is Terribly sad, if Elvis would've stood up and said I'm Elvis and I want to do this or that, nobody would've even tried to stop him except Col. Parker and then Elvis should've said sit back down Col., you work for me. We are doing this My Way as the song says but he did not do it his way, he did it the Col.'d way and the studio head's way It really is a Tragedy but make no mistake, it is all Elvis' fault, we cannot blame other people for things Elvis should have done. The tragic part is Elvis liked being told where and when to go, he did not want to make decisions so in reality Elvis was not as smart as everyone keeps saying. A smart man would've "A Star is Born" and would've gone to England and Europe, and would not have made those movies. I believe Elvis was smart but made some stupid choices and three listed above ended up killing him
Totally agree! Elvis controlled Elvis. And in retrospect, he could have made lots of better choices for his career and for his life. Interestingly, after watching himself in A Star is Born, Kris Kristofferson realized how his own life was as troubled as the character he played in the movie and he decided to get better. His career skyrocketed after A Star is Born. Maybe Streisand was really throwing Elvis a lifeline, more than a movie role.
@@unapproachablelight First, Thank You so much for agreeing with me. I normally just get a lot of backlash when I speak the truth as I did in my comment. It is very refreshing to see someone agree with me. People usually act like I'm putting Elvis down but I am not doing that, I merely am stating the sad truth of what actually happened. I love Elvis and it hurts me to know some of the choices he made. Some of them blow my mind and if I ever mention them, people get so angry with me. Secondly, I did not know that about Kris, Good for him. I think you're right that Barbra was throwing Elvis a life line,, man oh man I wish he would've taken it but blaming Col. Parker for him not doing "A Star is Born" and him making those bad movies, and him not going overseas is just wrong. People need to get wise and realize, Elvis did what he wanted to do and stop blaming others for Elvis' bad choices. Don't they understand if Elvis really wanted to tour the world, he would have, no one could've stopped him. It is sad and tragic but Elvis knew how lucky he was to have Col. Parker because he would take all the heat so Elvis' image would stay Pristine!!!! Thnkx Again Man for being real!!!!

Excellent comment and excellent point Kathy.

Omg imagine Elvis in True Grit. That would've been amazing. Maybe a part in The Godfather...
Tom Parker wanted Elvis to have top billing. And that was what was the deal breaker
💯✌👍👏Absolutely !

My heart bleeds at how much he gave us and yet he left with so little 😢
The Colonel ruined the opportunity by being greedy, as usual.
A STAR IS BORN?!!?
The Colonel was afraid Elvis would leave him and that everyone would find out Elvis really was hooked on prescription drugs. 😕
I agree with you David ❤
Elvis would have been great in a star is born.
Imagine how much recognition and praise he would have gotten, not to mention how enthusiastic he would have been.
He would have put everything he had into getting into shape, it could have changed his life and saved his life.
Thank you David ❤
Elvis should have done the movie no matter what his manager said or wanted. Elvis should have done what he wanted.
He never shared a stage with anyone. Elvis was the entire show
A guy named Mungo Jerry wrote a song for Elvis called Feels Like I'm in Love, which could have been a number 1 worldwide but Elvis died before the song got to him.
I read that the colonel wouldn't let him be in the movie because he couldn't get top billing. I think it would have been great for his career
When news that Elvis was in the frame for this movie came out in the 70’s the Elvis fan club of Great Britain said in the report that it was the second billing that was the issue.
Gilblue; in 1962 Queen Elizabeth II personally invited ELVIS to London , for the Royal Variety Show ,he would have been in the company of Bob Hope, Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Eartha Kitt, etc,,but he had to decline the offer, because the infamous Parker as always opposed this trip and this meeting (you know why!!!!!!!) Poor ELVIS prisoner in spite of himself of this disgusting man / TCB/ TLC/
all the missed tour dates of 1960-1968 which wouldve been the goddamn best time ever. he shouldve told parker to f off. too polite
Heard there was almost a big U.S tour in fall 62 but something fell through.
If's and but's. Speculation for a conversation I suppose. Many seem to think they know what was good for Elvis' career.
I think Barbara would’ve been a great actress for Elvis to work alongside, and would have challenged and broadened his acting abilities.
You are right, he would have been perfect for that movie. I just watched the new version and I saw Elvis in that story😢
I think if had taken the contract to do the movie' ' a star is born ' the movie wld have been a huge success considering him being so famous n gorgeous everybody loved him seeing him perform on stage is really so delightful I am sorry to say Elvis just didn't have the support fm his friends or his female ladies what a waste such a beautiful man
I wonder if Elvis ever saw the movie and if so, what did he think about it.
I wonder too
I think he would of ,i think Danny mentioned it on mmk.

It would’ve been interesting to see Elvis sing hard rock. I wish who ever made that version made it earlier between 68-70 Elvis was at his peak
Edit: someone should make an AI 70’ Elvis sing watch closely now
Think Elvis would have been brilliant in Where Eagles Dare playing the American Lieutenant opposite Richard Would have been interesting to see him in this role though as he was older and wiser
Having asked Parker for advice (still trusting this delinquent!, who is said he had been offended because Streisand had gone directly to Elvis), he took revenge not missing the opportunity to confirm and increase Elvis' doubts, manipulating his insecurities and weaknesses, pointing out the plot of the film: a star in decline who used alcohol and drugs, etc. etc. in short, some of those things that were really happening in Elvis' life and that the public could have started to think that the fiction was not so much fiction etc., etc.,
On the contrary, I am absolutely convinced that Elvis would have done very well playing this movie, that certain scenes that worried him (showing himself bare-chested, doing coke..), could have been changed a little without changing the meaning of the story and also regarding the financial compensation (keeping in mind that Elvis was not that greedy - as Parker was), he could have certainly asked for some changes without demanding such a high fee, (by now he was no longer number one in Hollywood), content with the percentage offered, and that then, given the success of the film, would have made him earn much more.
Elvis should of got to do that movie I wish elvis had another manager I think elvis life would of been alot better off
I think Parker didn’t want Elvis circulating outside his sphere of control. I think Elvis didn’t push back too hard because he was deep in the throes of addiction.
If the Colonel really cared about Elvis, he would have insisted that he did the film. Looking back it would have changed his life direction or changed nothing.
PARKER WAS RIDICULOUS!!!! 💯 JUST LIKE WHAT HE DID WITH DOLLY!!!! 😡

I think Elvis was disgusted with Hollywood at this point. They had their chance all through the 60's to make it happen, they failed him
Elvis needed this movie to help get him out of that funk he was in. Everyone knows that Elvis needed challenges to keep him motivated and in shape. I'm not sure who was at fault for not getting the deal done, but with the counter proposal it's obvious that a deal wasn't going to get done.
Ça n'a pas marché Parker voulait des fortunes incroyables. Elvis a sombré a cause de tout ces sentiments de frustrations.
Getting back in shape would have been another plus for him 🥺👑
Hi David
Yes there could have been at least a delay in Elvis ‘s decline with that Star is Born movie but who knows for sure what happened to have Elvis decline it.
Would have could have but didn't God rest his soul?
I think it's all the colonel, he put the kibosh on it.
if Elvis done a Star is Born that will ruin his career much more ! because a Star is Born (1976) floped really hard and the movie critics hated the movie
It won best picture and a golden glove and several awards
Was a box office smash and won 4 Oscars 😂
Sad I believe Elvis and Parker didn’t want it.
I agree with you. He didn't want to play second fiddle. And besides, I don't think he liked BS that much. He didn't want to be under the thumb of Barbara or her boyfriend at the time.
Happy labor day everyone
I believe he was also offered West Side Story but parker turned it down
Really sad sad sad. Kris kristophoson did a wonderful job, but totally agree, another prime role that slipped through his fingers for whatever reason?
Elvis looked really good in march of 1974 perhaps he was on a health kick after ending 1973 not so good mentally and physically
I saw Elvis at the Houston Astrodome in 1970 for the night performance, do you have footage from that show? It was a great show.
I don’t believe ANY of us know the serious side effects that Elvis was beginning to suffer due to his “prescription” drug use.
Sonny said that Elvis told the Colonel to get him out of the movie deal/offer; Elvis knew
what it took physically to do a movie -he wasn’t up to the rigorous demands.
There’s a REAL REASON we say:
“Gone too SOON….💔”
But instead they got Chris Christopher. Yes, Elvis would have nailed it, but because of Parker, it never happened.
I think Elvis backed out after mulling it over.
Have you heard Jason Hehir and Priscilla are making a Netflix Elvis documentary 🤨🤨😡😡. I’m so tired of her being involved with Elvis stuff.
You're talking about? A star is born and it was colonel Parker. It was all his fault.
Great vid.
Thanks
I always wondered how Elvis's character in the movie would've looked like? Definitely not like Kristoferson.
Only one reason Parker ! Good video mate
His could've just Been too strong by then
I think that Elvis would have lost weight and it would have brought him back again.
This movie was not right for Elvis plus no way does he take second billing to anyone. Well done Colonel!!
❤ELVIS❤ 🇺🇸
I think He was very KIND to the fans
너무 멋있는분❤ 이었어요
☆☆☆GREAT ☆☆☆
Plain and simple, by mid-1975, Elvis was just too overweight.
We are doing this My Way as the song says but he did not do it his way, he did it the Col.'d way and the studio head's way
It really is a Tragedy but make no mistake, it is all Elvis' fault, we cannot blame other people for things Elvis should have done.

First, Thank You so much for agreeing with me.
@@bobbyhunt3009 We both love Elvis!! Truth hurts but truth is what heals🙏

Very Well Said!!!!
